View Full Version : ToV Quest Armor Farming

Since it's looking like winter is actually coming soon, any guidelines on what to expect while farming quested gear in ToV or does the smaller guilds have to wait for the big guilds with 300-400+ members to get geared first? If there is going to be 15 guilds in there it's going to be slightly crowded. No GM intervention zone? Any thoughts?

I would leave this monster alone. Let people play and see what happens.
Recall that trash drops gems and faction can be farmed. No reason why people can't make groups to kill trash and get small pieces.

There are 4.5 ways to get velious armor, and you're vastly overestimating the size of guilds who will be going after the 2 rarer kinds. Anyone can group up in kael to farm armor pieces, PoG is absolutely massive and could support 2 groups, and west TOV probably could as well.
What guild do you think actually has 400 members?

Skyshrine armor is by far the best for 95% of the pieces, bar none. I imagine skyshrine will be locked pretty hard for at least 3 months when raid targets are not up. Guilds like BDA have enough membership to never really leave the halls of testing. We'll see what happens--may have multiple groups in HoT and people trying to split it into camps. Anyone know the respawn timer on the trash in east temple?

All guilds have alts, mules. I'm just saying that when it's their turn for mobs...man, how many were at that CT?

Basically the only good design about ToV, was that it allowed for 3 guilds to simultaneously raid it without leapfrogging each other. West/East for farming and North for high-end dragons.
I do hope that on this server it allows for that both in zone stability and people not trying to split their raid between East and West to consume all the content as a single guild.

and zone in level required for ToV is 46 if I remember correctly is classic. why wouldn't anyone not take their lvl 46 twink to tov when they have their main char fully geared? that's like saying nobody will get a rogue epic for their level 1 twink. I don't remember if you can MQ quest drops from ToV but that will be the next guild farming spot if it works.

Loot and scoot prevents you from being griefed. Get your gear peacefully, 9/10 people will even rez you back so you can get your stuff and move on.
Much better alternative to being 500th in line to roll on quest boots after the.big guilds are done that is

I wonder how many potential players get turned away reading the insane negativity on these forums every day.
OH WOE IS ME! WHY EVEN RELEASE VELIOUS IF THERE WILL BE LOTS OF PEOPLE WANTING WHAT I WANT THE SECOND I WANT IT?!
No guild is going to park at one activity 24/7 for months. There is a crazy amount of raid-level content between world dragons, kael, TOV, Dain, Velk, POG, Ring and Shawl questing, and all of the rare items people will be spread out farming.
If the one set of armor you pre-determined you HAVE TO HAVE is too in-demand when velious starts, why not take your guild to PoG, clear it out to start gearing up in substantially similar gear and get some sweet tunare loots as a bonus? Why not switch your allegiance to a different faction? Why not take the time to go kill stuff that was too crowded in Kunark for a few weeks? Why not work on that faction in the first place and gear up other members and areas outside of the end-game armor drops?
Why not stop being insufferably negative and driving people away?
Stop making sense Shiftin, that is not allowed here.

It is not being insufferably negative to point out that even the hugely increased raid content of Velious will be bulging at the seams from 1000+ players on at prime time.

Seriously dude, this just reminds me of a failed apocephalus borealis attack, people that want everything easy already moved on to warcraft, you should follow them if that's what you really like and don't hold back, there's about 10 million players there.
Annoying us with "go red" constantly is just making you sound desperate for people to play on the red server.

Blue sucks, Red sucks, need new pve classic server with no RMT.
Red99 had a chance when it launched of being a populated server. Instead people chose to exploit plat quests when they could and kill level 2 newbies in their home town while the guards watched.
Wrong. Red99 had a great launch, Rogean released VP about 2 days later though and completely killed a lot of players drives to stay on red. Most hardcore TMO / IB left and went back to blue to raid VP.
Some months later Rogean nuked the guild <Holocaust> and banned or suspended all its members for a strat to kill Vox that Nihilum was also using. Rogean was never a fan of this guild or its members due to their shady histories. After this Nihilum took off, the box nearly died and went on life support, and Nihilum had uncontested farming of all raid content for a year or more.
The experience rates being raised was a constant argument.
Yellow text not being in from the start.
The debate over teams.
There is a lot more to it than you think, believe me. Rogean and Nilbog do a great job with these servers but when it has come to Red99, some serious mistakes were made.
With that said, Red99 has become a lot better. Double the exp of blue, YT, competitive guilds and a raid scene. 100 more new faces or so would make it even better. It's nice playing a server where every single exp or item camp doesn't have a line of people waiting to get it. And if you want something bad enough just kill the other person and take it. None of this variance bullshit or raid rules.
More people should play it imo. I always hear rumors about the playerbase griefing noobs off. Have yet to ever see it. Most people are helpful and I've been giving items and buffs to noobs as I run into them.

God, I remember the Holocaust ban. That seemed EXTREMELY heavy handed, especially compared to what has happened on blue. You can't have two factions on a pvp server and suddenly ban half of the server.

I always hear rumors about the playerbase griefing noobs off. Have yet to ever see it..
pretty sure that was a large reason why the put in the PnP.
when I started on red it was a total shit show. if you won a pvp encounter, they'd bind rush, train, port in uber twinks and oor healers to assist, turn the tides and camp you. if you went down, it was in your best interest to just log off for a while or play an alt. people couldn't even be decent human beings when you'd ask permission to loot and scoot. this was not a rare occurrence, this was most of them. there was absolutely zero respect for peoples time, it was largely a big grief bonerfest and whoever had the most patience and firepower to call in. total waste of time, most of it wasn't real pvp. I played on TZ on live, and I played on most of the other prior pvp emulated servers and enjoyed them.. but really couldn't get in to this one. I am but one person, but several of my friends felt the same, and I have to imagine a ton more stopped playing there due to that shit.
the PnP is a good idea in theory, and it would work if people embraced it and flipped the switch to stop being assholes to one another, but you can't force that mentality on people that have already adapted to a die hard cut throat way of playing. I hopped back on after they introduced the PnP and it was just a bunch of people arguing non stop about semantics and work arounds and complaining. I have a 30 rogue in old world gear that I am looking forward to playing again at some point, but I'm kinda waiting to see how the server turns out and what the big plans are for it before I invest any time there again.
Farming WToV and EToV trash for armor drops is a fate I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies.
Lord have mercy on those of you actually looking forward to it.

First time i played on red i made a woof elf ranger and got to level 6 and went into CB for first time. I got a few too many mobs and ran to zone to see a wizard standing there. i stop to tell him to zone out and he preceeds to root me. then a high level druid zones in and kills train while wizard tries to kill me. root breaks i zone out they follow and wizard kills me. He then sits on my corpse for 20 mins. I never really had another interest in red after that. 2 Nilly toons. happened like 8 months ago or so.

You could zone in at level 1 to ToV and Skyshrine if you could make it there and had the key. It was after they put level requirements on items and made a level requirement to enter Time (After/during GoD) that they put the level requirement in ToV. I remember several sub level 46 toons sitting on dragon spawn points. If the mob was up your spotter got a rez once your mob killed it. That and you had Level 1's running around with 1k hp/ac from rot loots. I remember level 1-20's leaching off our ae faction groups in Kael then running strait to get their Skyshrine key and then off to sit on mobs in E-W-N Tov.
Level 1's got way more powerful in Time once you got the flagged. That and the people who used to de-level once we cleared time/Tanvu/Tacvi back to level 10 and then blow through old content with Raid Max gear and max aa. Almost all of the gear could be clicked / proced at level 1.

It has been since PoP that you could not delevel under 10, and you can check their skill levels to see that they were not unleveled.
All with ToV loot some from Elemental plans in PoP. Malus Imperium Flagged a ton of pre 65's for time while cock blocking Altered State and Eternal Sovereign.

Fellowship Fireplaces allowed people to bypass level requirements on zones for quite awhile.
Many are on FV where they can buy certain gear that had no level requirements - Tacvi Tongue Samples quest / PoP Secret of Planes / PoP Essence of Powers for example.
Also shown is lots of Vulak / Seru / Ssra loot, all zones you could access at level 1 (or in the case of ToV Fireplace in as mentioned earlier).

All Kunark and Velious items had no level restriction. Level restrictions on raid items started in luclin. When ToV first came out you could zone in at any level. Also if you really want to get old school, when Plane of Fear first came out, you could zone in at level 1. As to being able to equip Planes Armor below level 46, I call bullshit. You had to be level 46 just to start your flagging. As for farming ToV armor, You can easily do 3 guilds in west tov, there is a ton of mobs there. Also all Velious quest armor was mqable, just in different ways. Any class could mq the dwarf made armor, The Skyshrine armor could only be mqd by same classes for example a war could mq to another war. I believe Giant could be done by any class. You can make magelo show anything at any level, does not mean its real. Level restrictions started in luclin and no way any sub 55 was wearing elemental armor.

False. Certain items had hidden level requirements. Example being Lodizal Mace:

Verant has sneakily implemented level limits on some items. They have NOT changed the "Cannot Equip this item..." message though.
Its been confirmed that there are now items that you have to be a specific level to even EQUIP the item much less proc the effect.
Expect more Velious Dragon Loot to follow this format as well in the future.
I guess Verant got tired of seeing dragon loot being worn/used by level 1 twinks.
