And this trend where "ZOMG SO AND SO IS WORKING ON X GAME, THAT MEANS IT'S GOING TO BE AMAZING" needs to stop. It's weak and ignorant. Brad McQuaid did not create Everquest. Everquest was created by DOZENS of people I'm sure which 99% of aren't working on Pantheon. And even if they were - even if 100% of the Everquest 1 team was working on Pantheon, that doesn't mean that it will be a true successor to the classic game that we love.

It's not just that, though. There are a lot of reasons that people have for not liking McQuaid - legit reasons. Reasons that I won't get into because I feel like at this point the staff will likely delete any threads that go into Brad's supposedly notorious past. You'll just have to do that research on your own. But please stop giving credit to one person for the hard work of many. This has become a common selling point for so many products these days, and so many people trip right into it.

Lastly, XP potions are not classic nor is buying into Velious early access.

"Dozens" on the team sure , but without Brad or Steve Clover it wouldn't of happened, more like 6 people at most art,spell system,and the lore guy Bill Trost. wasn't the rest of the team composed of dudes who had just worked on sports game up until then? from that documentary they were calling it neverquest and like had no idea wtf the project was about when they started on it pretty sure you could of replaced them with random other people in the industry and the game would of came out the same

It is not about whether the service is free or not. Anyone who invests their time in the project has a right to voice their opinion even if they dont donate! Since they are not open about how much money they get in donations, you have no fucking idea about financial status of the project, so cut the free entertainment bullshit, when in reality they could be making nice money.

oh and btw, its not free when we all have paid for the game! Im using EQ copy I have bought with my cash and I have spend thousands of dollars on subscriptions! They did not create the game. They use its popularity, emulate it and collect donations. Its not fucking free.

1500ppl on the server according to Rogean. If 20% donated 10bucks per month on average, you would end up with 36k $ per year. I know some people who donated hundreds of dollars.

I know one thing for sure. No one is going to invest their time AND their cash in a project where they dont get anything in return. But maybe they are bored millionaires who just blow most of their time and a lot of cash on providing "free" service to 1500 nekbkeards and get a kick out of that. I dont know. What I know is that I dont like this "shut up its free" argument, because its BULLSHIT.

Not if we can reach out to the 250k ppl or so who played during the Verant era and then quit. *Most of the people who play EQ Live joined after the SOE takeover (Luclin or later)* We can't reach out to these people though overnight. Not to mention some people would play a challenging mmo if just for the challenge.

"The masses" aren't needed for a successful MMO. They like fantasy MMOs, but Eve is thriving anyway. A new MMO bucking very far from the current trend just needs to make sure it targets the right audience and doesn't end up abandoning that audience because they think that sucking in some of "the masses" will make them more money.

Many things in life are ruined by money and popularity eventually, apparently. Remember when music was good? Now everyone and their mother claims "Music is my life!" and plays an instrument and the musician is such a common occupation now, filled by people who just want to get paid. The same thing has happened with video games and especially MMORPGs. Gaming was a lot more fun when there were a lot less games and the people making them were doing it because it was their dream and their passion. Now the industry is full of people just looking to make money regardless of the quality of their product. Gaming has become too mainstream and therefore defiled. Pretty much any game that comes out is going to appeal to as many people as it can - including Pantheon after not enough people show up to support it. You'll have a hard time convincing me that Pantheon won't have exclamation points and question marks above NPC heads with my neatly placed square iconed hotbars at the bottom of my screen with my minimap radar in the top right corner and my quest tracker below it - with quests that lead me into INSTANCES. Boring kill 10 pigs and boars quests and gather 15 apples. Items and equipment literally thrown at you with every step. And let's not forget being able to solo to max level!

What I don't get though is things like XP pots and early access are very modern MMOish, but isn't it things like those that we are trying to avoid by playing here to begin with (and would hope to avoid by playing Pantheon)? I've been here for ~2 years (a bit before Kunark release) but I know some of you have been here even way before that... For as long as many of us have been waiting for Velious as it is, it just kind of feels like a slap in the face from the staff.

Funny thing about early Velious access. Sony shipped out free box copies of Velious to all guides. The guides were allowed to access Velious prior to release. Some logged in using their play characters (we were just supposed to get some familiarity for guide activity). So, there were many "normal players" running around with Velious spells, showing stuff off (Like Monster Summoning). I don't know if they got in trouble for that. :). Not quite the same however I expect the price gougers to run in to Velious to get stuff and sell Velious spells and drops at inflated costs to those who can't wait a week.

Music has and always will be subjective, so it's impossible to (meaningfully) argue that it is better or worse than it was 10, 20, 50 years ago. The only objective argument one could make is that we have access to more music (what with this newfangled Internet thing) than we did 10/20/50 years ago, and that's pretty hard to argue with.

I don't hate Pantheon or want it to fail. I honestly don't give a crap about it. What I care about is the same GMs that have so adamantly searched for and destroyed any RMT operations are now the ones championing it. Having a server wide XP bonus is one thing but to give people items and access to a new expansion early is pretty lame. If I was to obtain a Fungi and give out raffle tickets for $50 a pop you can bet I would be banned in a hurry, even if the proceeds were going to cancer research.

I'm assuming the people blindly supporting Pantheon haven't really kept up with MMOs since EQ released in 1999.

For example, DAOC released in 2001 and I loved it. It's my second favorite MMO behind EQ. When Mythic announced a new MMO that was supposed to be DAOC in the Warhammer universe, I was super excited. And then I got the game and it sucked.

Pantheon looks great, but it could suck. I hope it's everything that everyone says it is, but I don't want to drop any money until I get confirmation that it doesn't suck.

I think the key word here is "dev". Every MMO I know of that has any type of tradeable items or currency ingame has to deal with RMT. That is just a byproduct of having different countries with individual currencies, exchange rates, blah blah not the point.

My point is: selling things for real money is fine when you're the one running the world where these things you're selling exist!

The guise, the staff and the xp pot are fine enough. The early access is really the only thing that is worrying to me. They supposedly have it handled even though no details have been released.
