Levitikin is trying to convince people that "Hollowed Skull" increases jewelry skill by 20%, and is super-rare/unknown. He put a bunch of crappy jewelry in the window as proof and wanted my Djarn's for it.

Here's hollow skull on Zam, a quest container:
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=39

Unless it doubles as a mystical jewelry kit that no one has ever heard of, can he get banned? I have screens, just dunno how to put 'em here.

Dang, poor guy, I know he likes to fuck around sometimes but he really is a decent guy. Oh well, I guess he gets what's coming for him. Still makes me a bit sad.

Should start making examples of these people by suspending them (banning for repeated offenses). There are plenty of lower level newbers who might actually fall for stupid scams like these.

Maybe I'm missing something here. What's the scam?

So he lies to you about something he can do with the container, I got that part.
He links you some crafted jewelry, got that part too.

Then he wanted Djarn's Amethyst Ring in exchange for the Hollow Skull?
http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=20583

That's it? I'm sorry but who would fall for this?

I timed it, it took me 5 seconds to alt tab and write "hollow skull eq" into google:

http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=hollow+skull+eq&aq=f&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=CEXYtHyxcTISiJovwygStuq25CgAAAKoEBU_QhuVj

Not to mention that if you have doubts you can just ask people in OOC. I'm assuming you were in East Commonlands at the time? Would have probably received a dozen answers.

I have zero tolerance for d-bags, griefers and cheaters but this is hardly worth even mentioning.

This can absolutely be considered griefing considering he/she is actively lying and trying to scam people. His tell to Kashi last night just asked if she was in the market for Jewelcraft % bonus container. He linked it, we checked it out and couldn't find jack squat about it being a jewel kit so Kashi told him she was all set.

The problem is that Levitikin was trying his best the whole to weasel whatever he could out of Kashi, originally he wanted plat, then he wanted trades, then he just wanted fire emeralds.

It's a scam, and it's not right. Not bannable, but worth mentioning and defaming for sure.

I vote move to R&F.

I heard of another "decent guy" on brell who scammed a player out of 55,000 plat for a non-existent MQ Kael BP. Page 8, anyone?

He should most certainly receive a warning at least; or be suspended. Unless player's preying on and scamming other players is considered acceptable?

I'm with you on this. The only thing Levitikin is exploiting is people's gullibility. And Levitikin is a rogue as well... Sounds like a pretty roguish thing to do from an RP standpoint.

I have no beef with you sir, but you and guinea can't honestly think that? Just admit it's a shitty thing to do, and actively lying is considered griefing given the intent was to cheat someone out of $.

i don't think this is bannable...there are lots of "myths" in mmos about what some items do outside of their readable stats. this is not lying in the sense of griefing. it is not fraud in the sense of most duping or claiming to do a MQ and then not doing the hand in.

i think the op has every right to rant on the guy and warn others that he is a peddler...but as far as a ban goes I don't think it is worthy.

Agreed it is a shitty thing. Never said it wasn't. I just wholeheartedly disagree with it being a bannable offense. The damage done to his reputation should be enough.

Yeah, I don't think lying should be made a bannable offense, apart from specific circumstances (lying when applying for IP exemptions, etc). People need to take care of themselves (as was the case here - other individuals were brought into it to test what he said). I sure hope that a person who said any of what he said publicly (I doubt he would) would get hammered by knowledgeable people in the zone.

The reason I say it isn't ban-able is because it's a very slippery slope.

Is the skull worth anything at all? Sure. How much is it worth? Has anyone tried selling one?

If I try to sell you a Batfang Headband. I claim "it's worth 10k but I'll sell it to you for 5k."

You take the bait and buy it. Did I cheat you? Maybe... I definitely gouged you compared to the going rate. Is this ban-able? No. Why not? because you should have done a price check instead of taking my word for it. I would not get banned for doing this.

I'll take it now to the next step.

I try to sell you gatorscale leggings for 2500pp when the going rate is 1500. (Not to mention that several months ago they were only 800.) Can you petition to ban me for this? Highly doubtful.

See what I'm getting at?

Trust me, I do not in any way condone this guys actions! ( Nor do I like current auction prices :( )
If I saw him in person I would love to give him a drop-kick and follow it up with the flying elbow (love wrestling references in tough guy talk :p).
I'm just saying.

Ugh.. Let's not start justifying this crap with the RP explanation. If you frequented this board a few months ago, you'd remember the griefing player who was a Halfling Rogue. He'd send tells to people inviting them into groups from across the world and after 20 minutes or so of running when they arrive, he'd play all ignorant pretending he never sent tells to the person for an invite. He would do the same when ordering armor from a player. The player would make the items and he'd say that he never asked for them or some such nonsense. He justified this all as being a Halfling Rogue who was Role Playing for his god Bristlebane etc. People were in an uproar over this and he wound up getting banned if I recall.
I don't agree that the person mentioned in this thread should be banned but he deserves prominence on the shit-lists of people and guilds. HE made his reputation, let him live with it. If he's in a guild, they should reconsider his membership as it gives them a bad name.

Here's the link to the former player, Triik who was also being an ass to other players..

Because that isn't a punishable offense, that is awesome. At least on a racewar server where you're supposed to be killing them, anyway.

A friend of mine had a dark elf enchanter and he'd take her to Freeport under a human illusion. Then he'd find a mark to kill and one to charm. He'd charm one guy, use him to kill the guy next to him at the bank, and loot the corpse and run.

That's how you do sneaky on a PvP server.

Dude this one time a guy told me a handmade backpack will make any weapon you store in it double the damage and half the delay. I traded my manastone for it ...

Turns out this wasn't the case and I am petitioning for him to be banned. Still no word.

I can understand both sides of this, but i would def say there should be something done about it but ONLY if he actually completed the scam. Then he would have been lieing and decieving another PC out of a highly valuable item by telling you a false fact about an ingame item. A slap on the wrist would do fine, maybe a 24 hour suspension? plus a flag and if the offense is repeated then smack a ban sticker on their forehead.

Now people say "well they shouldnt have been that gullible" but if someone scared you into giving them your wallet with their finger under there shirt pretending its a gun, then you find out and take your wallet back. Now dont you still want him to atleast get his shit kicked in for trying?

like a said 24 hour suspension = slap on wrist
repeated offense, BAN = Shit kicked in

Sincerely,
EQfiend

should he be banned? I don't know, I do know 2 things for sure, if he did this in real life he would go to jail as it is illegal to con people as you are basically stealing from them, the other thing I know for sure is I will never trade or do business with this shady character.

Bullshit. You don't go to jail for false advertising. Technically you could, but I've never heard of it ever happening. Otherwise every CEO of the major pharmaceutical companies would be behind bars. The people who sell those ion metal bracelets would be behind bars. Even the folks who make those "Magic 8-Balls" with the fortune telling octahedron in em would be locked up. And essentially banning someone is the equivalent of capital punishment. Is this seriously the Saudi Arabia of EQEmu servers? You want to ban a guy because you were a sucker for his ruse? That's pretty pathetic. Personally I'd have been too embarassed to post this thread in the first place if I were you.

This thread is an example of why online communication distances us from other people and removes basic courtesies we provide everyone we interact with on a face-to-face basis.

"YOU'RE F'ING STUPID IF YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED AND STAB YOURSELF MANY TIMES FOR SAYING WHAT YOU BELIEVE ON THE INTERNET F'ING IDIOT S' F'ING GD IDIOT"

I am pretty sure I said that I didn't know if he should be banned or not.

there is a fine line between false advertisement vs knowingly coning someone out of their money, while false advertisement 99% of the time will not land you in jail, coning / scamming someone out of money will.

yea this one could technically go either way, but I personally view it as more of a con / scam than simple false advertisement, its not like the guy is selling a vacuum he claims has 10 pounds of suction when in fact it only has 8.
