View Full Version : Removal of OOC, why it is a bad idea

Yet another bad idea, IMO (If straight up removal is indeed whats in store)

Theres many other ways to deal with this in a better way:

- Restrict it to once per 5 minutes

- Restrict it by levels, so newbs cant see the high levels shaking their dicks at each other

- Put someone like me as GM who will bring down the hammer hard on people spamming OOC with garbage. 3 strikes yer out for 2 weeks. Dont permaban people for this stuff but make it sting so they get the idea.

Was LFG yesterday on my level12 rogue, what are lowbies and people starting out on the server supposed to do after OOC is taken out, post here?

OOC lets someone on a high level character like me see someone post like "Hey anyone LFG im level 10 cleric in crushbone" and log on his alt to play with him.

If the pop hits 500 regularly, sure. Not with this pop.

And for gods sake start asking for feedback before you implement things

They did. One of the most common suggestions was to remove global OOC.

Do we need to make a bug report for /ignore not working

Well its a bad suggestion. Where did they ask for feedback? They shouldnt make a poll on it and go with majority rules, just have people bring up the pros and cons in a thread for a while, digest all the feedback and then take a decision

kill it with fire.

global communication needed, but a default always on global tears channel that everyone has to see at all times is not the way to go.

if anyone actually listened carefully they'd note the important choice of words i used in that stream 'global ooc is gonna change'

'its current form is taken out back and shot, twice, then set on fire, twice, then strapped to the back of a rocket and shot into space.'

So you will turn it off for a few days, then turn it back on? :D

How about you can't participate in ooc unless you turn off /roleplay and /anon? People spouting off in ooc more than likely don't want to be found.

Allrite so nothing in stone then, good. Well, you can read my feedback about it up top.

This is just another bad decision for the server.

Would it be hard to code in a General chat channel like EQ live has now? a channel u can join once u log in but not mandatory? not sure how hard it would be.

How about optional global LFG and Auction channels?

Kergan

In theory removing global ooc and adding a lfg channel, while also making auction global would work...but in reality people would just use it to spam and talk shit like they do in ooc now. Without enforcement of rules on a global channel it'll just turn to shit like ooc.

I just played like 5 hours straight and didnt even pay attention to OOC, i dont think it matters that much. But see OP.

I have OOC quarantine into it's own window and that helps. But I'm sure I also miss some auctions I'd be interested in. Honestly the only time I look is when a guildmate gets YT'd to see the 18 people saying "pras".

I don't see why this is an issue. Global OOC is needed on a server with such a low population. If you don't like it, click on options and hide it.

Just make ooc an optional chat channel you can join. Pretty simple dudes.

Kergan

Not really that simple. The issue is the toxicity of ooc drives players away. It is still needed for them to find groups and trade items. So optional or not you're essentially forcing them into the cesspool.

Unfortunately there's no way this server can thrive without a global chat. When the pop hits 400 or so then we can but until then people just going to have to be men about ooc and deal with it

I don't think anyone disagrees with you. I think the obvious solution is to moderate ooc but there are manpower issues with that.

Remove ooc; conversations in it were always despicable when I played there.

Make it so that you can only use /ooc if you are in a city zone / outpost.
This kinda makes sense when it comes to trading also :P
I think this will limit the PvP spamfest and spontaneous shit talking.

removing global ooc is dumb, before it was implemented the server pop was 20 people

this really didnt require it's own thread

Right i dont see what the big deal is, its not a big secret that some red players are flaming manchilds. I started playing the game again after a year and i dont even pay attention to OOC. The cons of removing OOC vastly outweigh the pros.

Can't one turn off OOC chat themselves? I figure if everyone is capable of connecting to an emulated server correctly they should know at the very least how to turn off certain chats if they don't want to hear someone from Nihilum cry wolf or call someone a fgt
