Scrape your friends along a coarse stone. The detritus left behind is filth, and you are much stronger for sloughing it off.

Why bring EQ up in conversation if they don't like it? Did you scream VERRRRIOUSSSS and repeatedly declare that "winter is coming"? :p

No, because my friends are philistines who laughed at me for "paying to play a game" in 2000, only subsequently get hooked on WoW.

During Live, my circle of friends had to ultimately agree to stop talking about EQ at "mixed" (EQers and boring folk) social gatherings, because it dominated the conversation and people felt left out.

These days, people are just like, "WTF?! Dude, it's not 1999."

I have to admit, I get annoyed that they younger people talk about video games with such open air confidence, where as twenty years ago it was still a niche thing, which you usually got made fun of.

I actually miss those days, all was still balanced with the world.

Now it's just wildly out of control and socially acceptable to do nothing with your life.

So I just start randomly talking about invis pulling in Howling Stones until they shutup about BF4.

My husband doesn't hate when I talk about EQ. He and I were guilded together in classic before we dated, so it's hard for him to say anything - although I do get aggro from time for playing, which he realizes is ironic.

He won't play P1999 over the 12,000 Steam Games he has purchased but has 'yet to play'...

But I do fill him in on the P1999 Server tabloids over dinner occasionally: Raid Rotations, Recent Drama, etc!

He does a pretty good job pretending to give a fuck:

Me: So FE broke up with IB and merged into TMO!
Him: WHAT? Don't they exist to take TMO down? Up is down! Left is right! Black is white!!
Me: What can I say? Velious be makin' people cray!

Lol, Aeaolena, it's awesome your husband pretends to care. You never know... He might end up playing here one day. I have 12,000 steam games also, but I still want to play P99 over those and save them for a rainey day. =D

Ya! It doesn't have the social stigma it used to -- wait, what are we talking about again?

I talk about EQ to my work buddies and friends ALL the time. Pretty sure they just let it go in one ear and out the other. =P Especially the ones that still play WoW. They just can't wrap their head around the world that is EverQuest.

you have friends?

Ya that sums it.
But ya. If your not talking about "the Holy Trinity," Money - Sex - Power, Then most folks don't care.
Thank God for EQ buddies. We'll all in the same barrow, full of nuts :)

Nobody has ever known my sick, twisted addiction to online games.

This for the most part. They know I play games, but don't really know WHAT I play.

Plus they are all console gamers who play/buy Call of Duty every year (/shiver). So I don't bother trying to explain to them about anything exciting that may have happened to me in any type of MMO.

My only friend is my wife and I only have to talk about EQ when I justify staying awake 30 hours a row on weekends staring at a computer screen.

Work friends don't really count, and even if they did I'm sure a bunch of average guys in their mid 20's wouldn't be very interested in my elf sim exploits.

A large majority of my friends played EQ with me back in the day.

We all played progression servers, we all played SoD, as well.

They have chars here, but quit long ago. I told them today via our FB group that Velious Beta was out - so I'm looking forward to talking about EQ again

I don't talk about games with my friends that don't game. I avoid talking about P99 with my gamer friends though, but only because every time I have told someone that I've been playing EQ recently they ask "people still play that?" and I have to go "Well....." and explain the whole emu concept to people that aren't familiar with that, then explain the server. I liken it to the situation Jeremy Clarkson likes to joke about when you own a "special" version of a regular car and people ask you what you drive.
