Possible New Player

Hola,

Back in the real year of 99 I played on Talon Zek. A few months ago I started playing here (blue server) and really like it but miss the pvp element. I shied away from the red server primarily because of the population and the daunting task of building myself back up to any semblance of sustainability while knowing 0 people.

If anyone could answer the following questions for me, I would appreciate it:
A) Realistically, how much of my time is going to be spent grouping if that is what I desire?
B) What is the pvp lvl range if there is one?
C) Are there teams or is it just a FFA?
D) Is money/no drop stuff lootable upon death?
E) On Talon Zek there was an xp bonus since we were all so hardcore ;). Does that exist here, too?

I tried to search for these answers first but apparently I am worthless without Google =(.

There is a scaling exp bonus from 1-50 so it will seem quick at first but slows down. 50-60 are normal exp rates. You will be solo the majority of your time from 1-50. Coin is all you can loot from PvP. The teams are everyone versus Chewie. You will meet him upon entering the swamps.

A) you can find groups, but it's hard, and you will need to rely on the generosity of a porter to help you get to them. it's best you play a soloer. druid is the easiest to get into the game with, because they can quad, and port, and heal, and buff.. but later on other classes are better for pvp/raids (rogues, for example.. but it's damn hard to solo on this server with an untwinked rogue. ppl are nice though and you can usually beg some starting gear/weapon)
B) 4 level range till you're 30, then it goes to a 6 level range. then at 40 it goes to 8 level range.
C) FFA
D) you can only loot coin
E there is a diminishing exp bonus from 1-50. at level one you have 100% bonus. at level 2, 98%, level 3, 96%.. all teh way till at 50 you have 0%.

xp is pretty horrible and there are probably less than 20 people that are below level 50, so keep that in mind.

I'd suggest seeking assistance from people in nihilum, red dawn, or azrael, there are some nice folks in all guilds that will probably toss a new player a few plat and bufs.

Send me a tell in game on Dacuk if you ever need a hand with a port or rez or something.

I started on Red about 2-3 weeks ago, got a good start because of the previous XP bonus. Joined up with Red Dawn, and met some awesome people. We have new players joining all the time and are a great resource to level up. I also started as an untwinked rogue and you CAN solo without much downtime once you get intimidate up to max for your level and solo just above light blue. Yeah you'll run into griefing twinked retards looking for YT in unrest and MM but overall I haven't looked back. The community on red gets a bad rap but I've met more good than bad. I'll have a better idea at 52 :)

my first and only character here is my paladin. its been rough, and alot of my levels have been solo, but seriously, play what you want to play. if that class makes you errect, dive in. you'll be more apt to stay and stick it out. personally if i was post xp nerf grinding some druid, enc, necro, etc i didnt want to play just to support a paladin down the road i would have probably gotten burnt out by now, rather than almost getting to the point of doing plane raids on the character i want toplay.

this server has an awesome, helpful, and generous population despite popular misconception, with like two years of kunark loot accumulating people will be more than willing to toss you an item or two to get you started.

A) Most of it, start somewhere easy to find groups be patient and wait all day for a group, you will then have groups.
B)+/- 4 levels 1-20, 6 at 30+, and finally 8 at 52+
C)The teams are, Azrael, Nihilum, Red Dawn, Flowers of Happiness. And the flavor of the day kewl kids club (mine is the best)
D)Unfortunately no item loot, but you can get plat from killing players. Buy gems, carnieliens, rubies.
E)Nope and we don't want weak hearted humans to play here. Now go away.

Nah, no pvp yet. I mean, my leveling zones so far have been gfay (mail quest then bandits), GLS turnins from an alt, eruds crossing, and now kerra isle. It's rare to see people in eruds or kerra on blue even with 10x the pop.

I'm not really playing a chanter cause I plan on racking up the 1v1 YT though, ya know? :)

That is the main thing about red, Most of the clerics login only for pvp or pve because they are already 60 and they camp out immediately if they are not farming something with people. Some of the worst classes to play on a raid as you probably know are shaman, enchanter, cleric to keep a raid going buffed. Most of these people have other characters(alts) they play instead, saving their mains for PVE(unless they are a pvp cleric, or enchanter shm etc which few seem to be)

I see a few clerics who are full PVE geared, but they are just as easy to drop as any pvp geared cleric for a melee. I want to see some battle clerics in velious though =) Shame bash won't be in our velious, that would make for some amazing heal bash skillz in group/raid pvp.

Anyway I am far off topic, The classes I listed above will guarantee you some help and possibly a guild if you show effort. A shaman would be able to solo up to 50+ not so bad even untwinked(no fungi), A cleric once you hit like level 10 you can do well soloing in unrest up to 35 etc. Enchanters if you are quick to react then they can basically start charm killing everything at like 25-30+ maybe earlier, Just have to get high enough to when its efficient. All of the jewelry is very cheap for charisma gear, I would be willing to even make it for you with my ench. Once an enchanter is 40+ it is a breeze soloing as long as you never get hit since hp regen isn't so great. But rune 3 is great until the level 51 or 52 rune. And well when you get theft of thought and clarity 2 you are set for soloing to 60 NP.

As for the people saying negative shit like quit the server, or dont play here. Yes te server pop is low atm, the exp was changed to be less but it is still fast leveling. If I can get 2-5% a kill on a hybrid twink SK then a non hybrid can def be leveling quick. Plus if you decide to choose a guild like Azrael, or Red Dawn or Nihilum and wish to choose one of the 3 classes I listed above(that honestly, the server needs more of not rogues monks warriors etc) you will have a smooth ride I would think.

CLRs are so rare because they are boring as fuck to play.

When there are so many other classes available that are not only much deadlier in PVP but also just flat out more fun to play it's no wonder why things are the way they are.

That being said I always play CLRs because they are so needed and I'm kind of a sadist.

I would recommend ROG/WAR/MNK/DRU/WIZ for the best EQ PVP experience.
