I played EQ a long time ago, but recently returned and brought a friend with me who never did.
I have forgotten a lot, but likely never had a clue how it worked back then either since I never used to care much for that sort of thing, but now we both do. So, what value is +3 armour to a paladin that has 300?
How would you work out your basic/average dps to compare items? (Damage/Speed is what I have been using but people say there is more to it than that) Thanks :)

To answer your first question, read this thread http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=118766
read the thread and a few linked threads in there and you will see how AC came to be where it is now and what value it has. Short answer, and IIRC, for tanks its 5hp=3ac...but that could be just for warriors.

Basic/average dps can be gained by doing a little math, best bet is searching the tank section of the forums for your closest to exact answer. From personal experience its best not to look at your dps as a Paladin, instead just use spells to hold those mobs on you and let someone else do the burning

In short: Nobody knew back then what exactly it is AC did. So it's impossible to tell how it's supposed to work now to be classic.
