Not very different than most religions honestly, if it started 2000 years ago it would be the #1 religion in america. Without a doubt

Odd. There wasn't even an America 2000 years ago. And back then, Scientology would have never sought out religious status to avoid taxes.

And Scientology differs greatly from religions. It lacks doctrine, ritual, culture, and praxis. It's not about a belief system or worship of any kind. Calling it a religion is like calling Nihilism a religion.

well the more i compare it to organizations outside the actual military and the catholic church... they got the numbers figured out somehow, to be able to use every tax loophole while increasing real estate holdings and self-sufficient networks of travel and communication...

really kinda creeping me out that its NOT over yet... i believe people can be that weird but these mother fucikers might be a source of domestic terrorism or some other evil henchmen producing factory to go fight for shredder...

military aspects that work:

- PT
- volunteer contract
- uniformity
- diet control
- only able bodied
- drones who want to belong to feel ... a part of something

Church aspects that work
- unity of thought
- unity of purpose
- proclamations of faith
- drones who want to belong to feel ... a part of something

what doesnt work:

real science is more exciting and powerful

lron hubbard is full of shit like most people

Lron Hubbard is dead. Publicly admitted his church was originally just an experiment. Was most likely assassinated for control over the Church and to silence his family.

This comes from ex members who protested yearly near one of its founding worship centers. I distinctly remember listening to a journalist on a radio talk about how they had come into conflict with the Church and had been given special protection/consideration so long as they followed city ordinances.

anyone think that scientology is possibly a money hiding tool for members?

Azure
04-14-2014, 02:54 PM
Probably. I believe the Catholic church has some aspects to it like this. Is the whole church corrupt? Naw. Is there someone somewhere in the catholic church using it to hide money. Very likely. Same goes for scientology. Not all scientologists are crazy (ok ok this is a stretch). Some are just interested in the ideas of Dianetics or whatever else it is they do. Lets call these scientoligists "researchers" or "explorers" who are exploring the faith rather than blindly following it.

They use the Sea Org to maintain non-profit status, buy up real estate, and then get away with tax evasion... the upper tier gets to do whatever they want supported by the lower tier.

When i put it that way, its no different from everything else. Kudos to these LARPers

the big difference though? the CoS may be the biggest latent domestic terrorist threat in the world by virtue of members access to govt positions while maintaining absolute loyalty to the "church"

No, it does not, not any more than Amway. It's all scam to avoid taxes. All. In some countries they are even still adamant about not having any of these things and not being a religion, because it suits their purpose there.

changing rules to suit your purpose.. avoiding taxes... having hardcore followers who blindly follow... id say it is a religion, for all purposes.

Everyone is getting over.. i wanna get some of this pie too... where can i sign up to break the rules for profit god damn it

"A government watchdog warned last June and again in January that non-U.S. citizens have registered 5,600 planes with the Federal Aviation Administration through trustees, concealing the owners' identities.

Under FAA regulations, this can be done by the owner creating an agreement to transfer the plane's title to a trustee that is a U.S. citizen. The trustee then registers the plane. The agreements provide little information on the identity of the owner or who uses the plane, according to a memorandum by the Department of Transportation's Office of Inspector General.

In 47 registrations closely examined by the inspector general, the non-U.S. citizen who created the trust had complete authority to remove the trustee, and thus control over the plane."

similar thing to do to get a silencer. it's more likely that people are starting to realize that the laws themselves undermine the rule of law, but that's how it's always been in the us. usa hasn't had its stint of fascism, but we're for sale, politically, now.

hehe part of it is that it's a literature degree, so i'm screwed in finding a decent job. realized that then hit cruise control. my grandpa is the only one that seems to understand, but he's one of them depression era guys that understands stagnant social mobility.

well, i know it goes Gorilla, _____ , Chimps/Human lines from _____.

considering the diaspora of people and the lands themselves over time, emerging adaptations to local environmental conditions and an obviously complex number of other factors, everything seems to match up... plus it all goes back to a universal common ancestor probably from the sky where the high speed collisions of particles in space created fundamental building blocks but then it starts to get a little iffy... why the conserved momentum?? the initial movement? thats so bizarre which is why the simulation is perfect... we could know and not even care or actually enjoy the knowledge in some way... but theres not enough time for one person to do it all.. so the more of us, the more computing power... haha 42

Doctrine: That people have thetan's attached to them that work against them succeeding in life. That these thetan's are there from out past experiences, plus thetans from the whole Xenu event. Goal of "Freeing the world".
Ritual: auditing
Culture: lots of culture
Praxis: auditing to remove thetans is a great example of praxis

I agree its declaration of being a religion is very weak, but it does fit these roles. Partially by design (just to be called a religion).

Most religions are at this point. I say tax them all. If it can survive on the support of its members alone than it deserves to survive, otherwise let them implode. There's no reason why I should have to subsidize them. Its bad enough I have to subsidize direct government programs I don't agree with.
