John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow (the villain?) will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Leia Organa), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), and Kenny Baker (R2-D2)

Director J.J. Abrams says, "We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."

Abrams will be a good fit for these movies I think. Star wars type SciFi is right in his wheelhouse. I still hate him for those 2 horrible attempts at Star Trek movies though.

+1

Though I can't imagine Marc Hamill playing Jedi again - the guy grown a huge belly over the years sitting in chair doing voice-overs :D I still love him for his role in Wing Commander

you think so? im worried

he seems to be a real fan, but he doesnt quite understand or care about the details of the lore

khan was genetically engineered to be a perfect human, he was supposed to be an attractive smooth talkin soldier/leader who would have introduced himself with his full name

Losing weight was one of the obligations for the role. Hamill lost a good chuck already and will continue to do so. He's not looking too bad now... well, "not too bad" for Hamill, that is.

Aaaaand... Robes!

the fact that Lucas isnt directing it gives this otherwise guaranteed flop at least 2% chance of success

Hah! Star wars "lore" has been screwed for a long time. I tried getting into reading the books, but there was no congruency like there is in Star Trek. Some books had certain things happening that didn't flow with other books being written at the same time.

And thanks for the tip on Khan. I believe I read a few books and watched a few TOS episodes and a movie involving him. I would never have known what his character was supposed to be like if I hadn't watched J.J. Abrams botch an attempt to work him into a horrible movie.

i cant believe smeagol is going to be in Star Wars... this is going to ruin the movie for me unless he is R2D2

Andy Serkis is actually a really good actor. I'm glad he landed a role in something this big that isn't tied to Lord of the Rings. He deserves it.

P.S. I agree, where's Lando? I need me some sub par Billy D Williams acting.

i would agree that he is a good actor.. smeagol terrifies me though, and i have watched LOTR so many times that i get this strange, chilling feeling every time i see the actor

i agree. but if anyone had to do it, jj abrams would be my second choice over lucas.

i have higher hopes then a 2% chance of success, but not by very far.

--- edit ---
i misunderstood what you said. i would have liked to see lucas direct it over abrams. i mean, he did fuck up the second trilogy, but its his movies. he needs to go back to the rebellious youth he was and not the rich fat guy billionaire looking to make money for the second set.

with that being said, that version of lucas is closer to jj abrams style of directing as opposed to you geriatric version of lucas now

Episode VII will do well if only because of the initial wave of star wars nerds that will be clamoring to buy tickets. I'm thinking that it will end up being a good movie. I don't think it will be as horrible as episodes 1&2, but I don't think it will be as good as episodes 5&6 either. I'm going to predict the quality landing somewhere between episodes 3&4.

There are plenty of books out about the return of the Republic and what happens to the Skywalker family, etc. Does anyone know if they are using this stuff or writing a story ignoring Timothy Zahn, etc.?

I hope they don't take any of the books at all into account. it is supposed to be right after the emperor is killed, and the death star destroyed - however there is still only 1 jedi, and probably lossa sith, and I'm sure there will be a power vacuum.. the rebellion is still beat all to hell.. so they have a lot of building to do, and the first movie out having like han and leah's kids would be silly

Why would it be silly? It's 30 years after the second death star was blown up and the emperor killed (there's no way this can take place right after VI, they're too old for that).

My prediction is Han and Leia are married with at least one kid, Luke is the venerable old jedi master now, there's some new force threat and ewoks are savage little beasts that are nothing like they were shown in VI.
