For anyone who keeps a overall eye on the MMO current market, is there a good holy trinity mmo worth checking out or coming out that looks decent ?

Fuck what everyone says, if you haven't, try out Elder Scrolls Online. It's a good game, and if you don't like it, the free month is more than enough to get your money's worth. I really enjoyed the dialogue, story, and just how the ESO game world fit in the ES Universe.

I really like ESO. Though I am waiting for Camelot Unchained or Archage (US)

That only real problem Planetside 1 has ever had is the fact that there's not enough people who play it. The world is always just too barren.

There are two servers that I am aware of, the US mega server, and the EU mega server. I don't think you have the option of choosing. Just depends where you live.

Name's Bae'Lun Kyne, I'm like a 46 2h Sorc Tank.

the hotbar and hotbar switching is horrid

Older Holy trinity games are dumb because they limit you to one role - which leads to boredom - and it's also just not fun having to rely on someone else, especially if they're not available - on a timely basis - when you need them and even moreso if what's desired from them is not widely available.

Having said that, 'holy trinity' still exists in modern games, it has just been redefined to make it inclusive. You can still play tanking/dps/healing roles, you just don't have to do it permanently. You can respecc your class with little to no downtime and/or have access to healing/dps/tanking abilities that you use with cooldown timers in place. It's kind of like oldschool gameplay in ultima online, in terms of how players can rely on themselves, except which skills you can use effectively is more fluid. There're still problems with needing other players, as some missions or enemies require more players working together, but there's not nearly as much concern put on the class or abilities of each individual party member, thus making the whole grouping thing easier. Coupled with more solo-content and fast travel up to max level, and MMORPGs are more popular than ever.

So really there're a lot of 'holy trinity' games if you go by the modern definition.

out of all MMOs today, WoW is the only half decent one. Surprisingly.

well its not really canceled, but Kickstarter failed, and Brad gathering donations just to maintain the website. So unless some rich arse firm... <cough> SOE <cough> Microsoft, drops 100-200 mln on him... AGAIN... there won't be any Rising to be done...

But you may keep an eye on that MMo that creator of Ultima is making.

Is Wildstar any good? The raids look really fun, I'm not a huge fan of the art style though.

Yeah.. I don't really care for the art style or general "attitude" of the game. But I think I could look past it if the gameplay was fun, which it seems like it could be.

Welll... it's still funding, post-Kickstarter failure. This did happen, however, and would probably be good information to know prior to throwing money away.

"The money- It's widely agreed upon by all parties that this project took in roughly 145 thousand dollars. A large chunk of that money, 35k, came from a single individual who promised another couple hundred thousand once he cleared it with his trust. Brad was having personal problems at the time and needed to take a cash advance from the project. He took roughly three months pay in advance which equaled roughly 38% of the funds that were left. Brad thought the rest of the money would come in, but the trust supervisor declined without even looking into the project. Reason being, he didn't want to be sued if the start up failed. Brad admits that it was a mistake and wishes things worked out differently but the money is spent and there isn't anything he can do. He then went on to express that he was sorry for how it happened and is planning on liquidating personal assets to put the funds back into the project."

lmao paying yourself a 108K salary/yr on a startup without even a tech demo to show for. smooth brad. this is how not to run a startup.

This is actually VERY smart, he took 100k to pay up for his personal expenses, and got off with a "sorry". Watch and learn kids. Lets see who is going to be the next sucker who decides to finance his next brilliant project.

Didn't all the real developers leave? Last I heard he was allowing people to be a volunteer "employee" and work for free. Essentially redoing the entire team but not actually hiring anyone because there is no money to do so after paying off the old team, and himself.

I don't think you understand the situation. That's exactly what Brad had in mind in the first place. Sure he probably doesn't want any more notoriety but he doesn't care if his name takes any more of a beating than it already has. People gave him money and that's what he came for, he's a top class snake oil salesman peddling the "cure" for our shitty modern MMO's.

This isn't a conspiracy theory, he already took off with the money.

But seriously, 9/11 was an inside job.
