This question may have been beaten to death already i have no idea tbh, but i heard there is a teams PVP server in the making? If so do we have an ETA on it? and secondly some people have said they will just turn this server (red) into the teams one, but i find this very hard to believe as tons of people are different races/dieties that are friends and im sure they wouldnt want to just suddenly be not on the same team as each other. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me please.

Hopefully they scrap the idea. Ive said this again and again, what i think will happen is red will die from population exodus and teams will fail rapidly because one side will get dominant and unlike FFA, you cant reshuffle the cards once in a while. It would be a really sad sight to finally get the numbers we lost in 2012 (400+), only to see red population being crippled by a doomed from the start teams server.
I dont even wanna think about the kind of mess a forced transition from FFA to teams would create.

I think teams will force a sense of community and allies. I personally prefer teams and I know several people irl who aren't playing with me right now because they we're only interested in the server if it had some team aspect whether it's diety or races.

Majority of people like team pvp. Sullon zek proved it. Was simply the best server in classic EQ. Despite it problems.

The server needs new life/guilds but the new pop will possibly just feed #'s for the next year of Nizzar's addiction of pixel farming.
Why so many like a one guild box farming the most horrendous PVE is beyond me like I've said before.

Personally i joined Nihi cuz i cant see myself playing with best of the best toxics like Slathar, Exed, the twinks in Unrest griefing newbs in cloth to the tune of "Nihi owns this place".
The problem with teams is that the teams are hard coded. Once a team starts dominating the only way to balance it a bit is to reroll a character on another team and probably you will have to delete your other characters to do so.
In FFA if your guildies are being assholes to you, If you feel your guild is dominating too much, you can always switch "teams" or start your own.

So you played on Sullon?
Only thing you forgot is the two smaller guilds will constantly fight for the scraps of the 1 big guild.
If they do the breakdown like Sullon I damn near guarantee that the Evil team will be dominant.

Not true at all. You can inherently balance the game better by making it so that the Evil team doesn't have so much power and the Good team (and to some extent the Nuetral team) has more power. There should naturally never be one team that ever becomes overwhelmingly dominant, because the other teams would actually have the capability of fighting them back.
You could also code the game so that the losing team gains bonuses, on a sliding scale. This would even further make it so that there is never a vastly "dominant" team, it would always be in flux or there would at least be a powerful underdog vs a slightly more powerful favored team. A lot of people would actually prefer to be on an underdog team in that scenario.
For a Team-based server, though, I'd really like to see it significantly altered from classic in terms of mechanics. Balance the classes better, have more class restrictions depending on alignment, and also have race restrictions within each alignment. The zones would also need to be balanced much better (with some new zones added in) so that Odus/West Antonica/Mid Antonica/Faydwer have more value, actually making them worthwhile in comparison to East Antonica and Kunark.
Zone balance is actually THE most important thing I would like to see improved across all servers (Red and Blue). In actual Classic EQ, there were tons of people in Everfrost, Qeynos, the Karanas, Highpass, and Temple of Cazic-Thule, and just in general there were more people floating through various zones and utilizing more of the game content, instead of everyone going on Wiki and rushing to the "most important" spots. The game needs to have a lot more options (and necessities for going to certain zones) and reward players more for actually exploring.
The epic quests should also be re-coded entirely so that every player's quest is different. You should not be able to initiate an epic quest until Level 50. At that level a character would go to the "epic quest giver" and be told 10 random items, which are difficult to obtain and no-drop, that need to be turned in for the epic. There would be 1,000 items on the list in total, spread throughout the game world. There would also be 3 different descriptions for each item and one of them would randomly be stated when the epic quest is given. Players would actually have to think for themselves and explore in order to figure out what item is needed for the Epic. That's how it was in Classic EQ.

Requires 10 times the dedication that a FFA server needs, and although im happy with the state the servers in, it wasnt always like this and it might be because Roge and co just didnt have the time to dedicate to it.
So if they aint got time for teams, alot more time than you need to make a FFA server work, i wouldnt bother because it will fuck up reds population only to make a server that wont last a year if it isnt heavily babysitted and monitored for balance.

Teams won't happen, probably ever. If there is a teams server, they need to hard-code an autobalancing formula that will reward exp bonus based on population deficit, probably recalculated sometime between every week to every month (automatically). In other worlds, assume population between factions is 10/30/60. Then faction 1 would get some massive bonus (warning: arbitrary numbers) like 200% bonus exp, faction 2 would get something like 100% bonus exp, and faction 3 would get 0% bonus exp. Again, arbitrary numbers... but some sort of formula that would award exp bonus based on population deficit.
As we can extrapolate from the most recent patch on red, exp bonus absolutely (and directly) correlates to a higher population. I would expect a similar thing on a teams server, both with incentivising new players to roll on the underdog faction as well as encouraging players from the dominant faction(s) who are on the fence to reroll to an underdog/underrepresented team. In addition to this correlation between exp bonus and population growth, there is a natural power gain for a faction that is able to exp faster, since levels directly influence character strength and the ability of that character to further equip/defend itself.
The only problem with something like this, is that you would need a precise way of defining population within each faction. Do you want to take a weighted average of the levels of the active players during peak hours, or what is the best way to capture this value? After you have defined the "population" variable appropriately, you only need to come up with a formula to auto balance.
I personally dislike FFA pvp because in practice it is anything BUT free for all. It also has the inherent disadvantage of not having any (immediately obvious) ways of hard-coding in some sort of population balance mechanism. All that said, I played on SZ during live and that was the least balanced server I have ever played on ... and definitely still the most fun. Teams FTW!

Would be nice to see percent based magic resist/run speed/hp buffs etc given to underpopulated side so there would be incentives for max lvl players to stick around.
Also some kind of anti-Zerg coding for mobs ( although I don't know how that would work)

Would love to see item loot on the new server. Current server pretty boring and probably why I stopped playing after the initial population drop near release.
