tbh I havent had chance to watch usa play since last WC. On paper you look an ave team, but maybe the sum is greater than the parts? England are the reverse, have some outstanding players, but cant seem to gell well as a national team.

regarding the USA team, if they have their eyes on 2018, they should try to have the team relocated to a more competitive qualifying zone, as central american teams (mexico excluded) do not have very competitive teams, and canada... do they even play?
I think some teams end up in the world cup more as a result of the lack of merit of the other teams than their own skills. (in past WC it was the case of saudi arabia, costa rica and a few more cases, now we have iran and honduras)

Netherlands playing some decent football in this WC, albeit their defense seems kinda iffy sometimes. They get paired with Mexico too, which has played solidly so far and it looks like a promising match.
Brazil will get carried by the refs when needed (even if they don't play very well). Germany will likely find its way through (plus they have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now), along with France - They both have the easiest pairing in the Final 16 from what it looks right now, though I think they will end up playing against each in the Final 8.
Costa Rica winning the Cinderella award so far with some solid performances, hope they can keep it up and go as deep as they can.

Goal average per match is quite high for a competition like that, and that's the best feature although most of the non South American teams have to face the rough weather conditions - playing matches at 1 pm in such humidity and heat is quite unforgiving.

Germany has a lot of GOOD underated players. Other than having some of the best names in football, Mueller, Schweinsteiger, Ozil, and Reus make up a really deadly attacking squad among the other subs and players they get up there. Germany is just a team of all around solid players, no weakness.

This is pretty much the same Germany from 2010, who were only defeated by a dull Spanish side in the Semis, and by a lucky ass Italian side in 2012.

That being said, they'll probably win the next Euro and maybe contend in 2018.

Belgium have a ton of potential, but were pretty boring this world cup. They're new to the biggest stage so we can't really judge them, but they have better attacking players than Germany will in 2018.
