Hello all,

New to the forums and P99, I originally played live a few months after Kunark came out (Oct 2000) and played until Luclin.

I was a halfling warrior on Drinal for that time but never quite made it to 50 (I believe 48 was the highest I got). Also had a halfling durid on another server.

Anyway, I'm enjoying reliving the golden days of EQ and I'm playing a Monk now.

My question is for pulling. Until Monks get FD, are there any tricks to pulling? So far I just run up to the camp and pull back, I have good Dodge/AC but it still seems rather risky. Monks do get a range attack weapon correct? I remember seeing something like shooting stars on merchants back in the day but not sure.

Does anyone have any other advice or monk guides out there? I really enjoy playing this class so far.

Hope to see you guys in game :)

Shurikens or throwing daggers (Mages can summon throwing weapons as well) for tagging. As far as splitting pre-FD, there's really nothing you can do on your own.

learn the spawns.

time the spawns.

once your group breaks the spawn its up to the puller to keep them broken.

Thanks for the reply guys.

Yeah, I remember some of the techniques to pulling from before, but forgot most of it. I know breaking the camp is essential. I was grouping in Misty recently and breaking up the goblin camps is paramount. Only thing you have to watch out for is that wandering Mooto.

Line of sight casters.

Have your resident dru/cleric/ench/bard or necro (SK?) for undead use lull. You can make it easy by getting the target and having them /assist you, and then you're also clear on which to pull. Don't assume lull lands when you see the graphic, though - it has a soft and hard resist, the mobs only aggro on hard resists. Hard resists seem less frequent from a distance for me.

Shurikens have minimal distance, but it's pretty much what you're stuck with leveling up ;/ If you come across a pile of money, or really don't want to take hits, or just want something for tough pulls/when you're unsowed - javellins are amazing. Both the one smithed at 41 skill and the one at 100. They cost about 6g each though.
