I just hit 17 with my Bard and trained in Dual Wield. I was excited for the option to wield a sword and a lute, but I can't.....?

Is this normal or am I missing something?

Yes, the only way to use your instrument is without weapons, maybe some you can but not any that I can tell

Instruments are "two handed" in the secondary slot. You cannot duel wield and equip an instrument. The lone exception to this rule (in Kunark) is Ervaj's Flute of Flight (http://wiki.project1999.com/Ervaj%27s_Flute_of_Flight), the Bard Sky quest flute which is Primary only and will allow you to equip a weapon in Secondary.

Also a note about the Singing Short Sword (epic): you must equip the epic in your primary to receive the instrument/singing bonus (1.8x mod). This is changed in Oct 2001, 2 months before the release of Luclin. So get friendly with your SSS, you'll be using it for a long time to come (bug report (http://www.project1999.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68012)).

and for more ''bug reports'' if you equip an instrument in main hand (like the vp lute) and have your drums in inventory.. if you die, you can loot the lute primary / drum into secondary and have the modifier effect of both, which is way OP

Calabee, no one is interested in pedantic edge-cases. You knew what this LEVEL 17 GUY was asking. Even in your twinkie-est wet dream pixel fantasies you know a guy who turned just turned 17 who wasn't aware of how this works wouldn't have access to those instruments.

I know you can't help crowing about your EQ-peen size, but for fuck sake.

Don't be so hard on him. I think it's important for bards to know that when they get certain instruments they no longer have to unequip both weapons to swap the instruments in. If I didn't know that, I could be saving a ton of time for myself every time I have to toss my flute on for emergency CC in groups. Additionally, I've found that putting my sky flute in my main hand and a high cha weapon in my offhand gives me a huge CC boost. If I were still dinking around just having my flute equipped and nothing in offhand, I'd get more resists. Probably not A TON more resists, probably not enough to MAKE OR BREAK anything, but still. It's clutch information.

Also, I didn't know the thing about looting a corpse with drum and lute, and if that's not something that qualifies as an exploit I'll be happy to know it if I ever get the VP lute.

It probably qualifies as an exploit though
