Got FFXIV: A Realm Reborn for $11 at Gamestop yesterday, got to level 6 and am having a fun time. Anyone play this or played it at some point? How's the game like going forward?

Yeah I dunno how I feel about it. I mean i'm having fun to a point, but I just don't think I can do it. I will like stare at my desktop icons battling on if I want to log in or not.

Leveling is fine, super-grindy to min/max end game. You end up playing every class based on what your 10 man raid needs basically. Sometimes its 6 AoE healers 3 wizards 1 tank, sometimes it's 8 rogues 1 tank 1 healer etc. You basically have to grind out every gearset and talent line.

Dat sounds pretty bad actually

I found it pretty enjoyable leveling up. Very linear quest line regarding the story but certainly worth $11.

Got to end game with a white mage, the main problem I found was that when they released new content they immediately nerfed old content (not talking because of new gear) but actually give you a buff while in the lower floors of the dungeon that gave you cure potency, attack potency, and HP/MP buff. Granted you can click off the buff to take on the first 5 floors as it was before, but when your re release of a game has only been out for 6-8 months nerfing your previous content is just a bad move.

The playerbase is pretty elitist. If you are the type that alt-tabs often, has random obligations where you must go AFK, or just enjoy a kind of relaxed/casual atmosphere then this game isn't going to be it.

I don't know if anyone still plays it anymore, but this game feels similar to GW2, which is free and a bit funner/more casual in my opinion.

My coworker conviced me to try this out, he's trying to figure out how I can play EQ still but can't even get to level 10 in FF. I think a lot of is that I just think the FF universe is kind of really fucking gay. I mean for Christ sake there are furries running around everywhere.

Yeah.... I definitely get that drone feeling when I play these modern MMO's. That's why I am still playing EQ here and SWGemu. Only EverQuest and Star Wars Galaxies have been the truly unique experiences with MMO's, at least since Vanilla World of Warcraft was released.

Be happy you got that game at a steal for $11, I paid $60 for it when it first released cause I've always been a fan of FF games and I wanted to try it out. I actually enjoyed it for a bit, was fun to be able to switch from tank to healer depending on what group needed without the need to make another character. But just like every other MMO I have tried since EQ and WoW up to Burning Crusade, I got bored real quick. Only played till level 20 and tried my first few dungeons then quit.

At least the FFXIV Dev team pumps out new raids/content every 3 months on schedule (and had an endgame at launch), unlike most new MMOs these days that are barren of an endgame and are shortly abandoned thereafter.

ESO will be the next in line for that treatment. We'll see with WildStar, but it seems to be losing it's luster already also.
