Trying to get Steel Warrior faction by killing Dorn in North Ro.
Started out Amiable with Indigo Brotherhood.
Started out Threatening with Steel Warriors.
I'm now Threatening with Indigo Brotherhood, so about -1000 faction @ 30 per kill.
I'm still Threatening with Steel Warriors (supposedly +10 per Dorn).
1000 / 30 = 33 Dorns (my pets loving duel wielding his Dragoon Dirks). 33 * +10 to Steel Warriors = 330 which should easily have taken me out of Threatening to Dubious but still no joy.
Edit: Scowling with Indigo now, still Threatening with Steel Warriors.

Probably that the wiki isn't always correct, especially about faction issues.

Yeah, don't put much faith in the numbers.
You'd probably be better off doing Deathfist belts then giving milk to Mojax Hikspin.

Yeah, oh well, trashed my Indigo faction for nothing. On the bright side going to get my spells will be more exciting then it used to be.
I'll try the deathfist thing. Thanks

Yeah but killing Dorn is SO much fun. I hated that guy on live and hate him now. I go by on some of my level 60 toons if no one is camping it and kill him for the hell of it. :p Piss on the faction hit. I have a Druid that is KoS in West Freeport. So what.

You're missing the biggest factor in all of this. Everquest hates you. It hates us all.

Yeah Dorns a bitch. Gets sowed and buffed by the shaman derv lol. Nasty for melee's.
I think I figured out what is it (apart from EQ hating us :) ), going through old posts found one by one of the P1999 devs saying that (10) is wrong. I think its more likely to be 5 per hit... I hope, because next is Yelosom Paust... at 5 will need to be 300 kills to get amiable to Paineel I think, yuck.
Could get a wolf form but doesn't go with my skeleton, and looks are important to a necromancer.

Must be less than 5 lol. Indigo is - Couldn't get any worse, 100 Dorns roughly. WTF. Maybe the faction hit is +1 :)

It's generally going to take you a few hundred/thousand kills to get from a KOS faction to a non KOS one.

Yeah but I'm just trying to get from Threatening to Dubious. Guess I'll keep killing him, still dark blue :)

I guess it depends on what you think is important in the game, whether faction is important to you. + Coldain, Skyshrine and Kael armors are sweet... even for min/maxers.

Faction in Velious is important, but in Kunark it is too much of a time sink to worry about. You unknowingly kill a few wrong mobs, or heal someone killing a mob you are sort of screwed. I really think the original Devs made way too much of a deal about faction. Like who really would have time to do 400 quests, do 10 different trade skills, get a epic, get faction on and on.
They had to know that young teens would mostly be playing EQ. And you are talking dial up time in the beginning. Like your mom is not going to get pissed that you have the phone line tied up for 10 hours a day? Brad was smart as hell, but dumb as hell in some areas in this game. Not everyone was as over the top as him or had the time to play.

Yeah. For threatening-dubious it'll be a lot easier, but still be, eh, a couple hundred mobs. Like on my shadowknight I killed orcs in HPH to get from ready to attack to dubious so I could do the scalp quest; from ready to attack to threatening must have taken like 300, 400 mobs (I didn't count but I can estimate roughly) and from threatening to dubious was probably 150, 200.

Got heaps of them but they're lore so /ooc free dirk after giving two to my pet. Finally got faction after about 150 kills.

I turned in tons of damaged militia helms into the NFP paladin guild on my Iksar monk. Took forever but finally got dubious to Steel Warriors. No reason in particular, but was killing guards anyway and got some plat for each turn-in.

Yeah I could have just got a wolf form from someone but that'd mean having to group with and pretend to be nice to a druid...

Steel warriors can be gained by turning in cloth tunics to altunic jartin -- part of soulfire. Can stack up a whole inventory full of the things in ec and just drop them on him. May take you a day but it's doable. I've considered doing this for my warrior just so turning in to the prisoner (who i think is also on steel warriors) would be easier, but for now, I'll just use shared wolf.
