I dated a girl after my wife died from cancer, about 4 times in Naples, Florida and that is all she ever ordered were snails at about 50 dollars a pop. And guess who picked up the bill. I can eat one or two of them but she was crazy about them lol.

the difference between my american english not being real english and your quebec french not being real french is that i'm proud not to speak authentic british english. i have no desire to ever be thought of, by myself or anybody else, as english.
you might be the exception to the rule, but most Québécois associate themselves culturally with France. and that is what French people (the ones in France) laugh about.

Are you Québecois?:P Cause other than some summer events like the Festival the la Nouvelle-France where we get to see some of the history that lead to what we have today, we have very little in common with French people from Europe. Totally different culture, different views, Its not a bad thing, its just different :)

Im always surprised how different it is from one region to another. The accent, the different expressions, different tones, Its amazing that we can be speaking the same language but cant understand each other sometimes :P

modern standard english is historically dependent on the injection of latin that came with the roman invasion and, more significantly, medieval FRENCH that came with the norman invasion. so, yeah, you're speaking their language too.

German is not derived from Latin. Neither is English. English is primarily Germanic, with some later admixtures of Norman French as mentioned above.

Someone has absolutely no fucking clue what Quebec culture is like. First of all we are also a very proud and nationalist people. Second thing we associate ourselves culturally more with the USA than France. We might be even more Americanized than English speaking Canadians.
You are correct tho, Murrican isn't English , Canadian french isn't France french. As for french people from France laughing about us for looking up to them ...it actually goes both ways. We have an expression for them here that translates to : those damned french men. Laughing at France is something we share with our neighbors from the south.
Btw why don't you try speaking two languages country boy...and don't go all Una cerveza por favor on me because you know the crushing majority of your countrymen do not speak more than 1 language and i bet you dont either since jive or redneck don't count as languages.

He's right, culturally, we are closer to americans. Politically however, we are much more closer to France. Let me explain.
The rest of Canada voted overwhelmingly to the right, the Conservative Party. Quebec voted mostly NDP, a left party. People whine constantly about high taxes, but we all love our social programs and healthcare and subsidies. Just like France, we will tolerate the high taxation as long as we feel the state will take decent care of us. Yes, things could be improved, but in Quebec and in France, you don't need to take a second mortgage on your house if you have an accident and have no health insurance.
Culturally though, we are a lot more like americans and canadians, in the sense that we are more individualistic than the french. People in here want the american dream: the big house, the car, the swimming pool, the big TV. We are also much less socially conservative. French people almost always use the "vous" when speaking between colleagues at work (that's the formal form for "you") while in Quebec we use "tu" a lot more (the informal form of "you").
Feminism and the liberation of women played a larger role in Quebec, too. Compared to Quebecois men, french guys are often seen as macho. French women are more conservative; in Quebec the gender lines have been blurred a lot more than in France.
I could write a ton more about this, but trust me, we may have the same political inclinations but our culture is a lot more closer to america/canada than it is to france.

Do French Canadians and English speaking Canadians (in the absence of a more fitting term) get along? Is the movement for French Canada to split off as large as I've heard?
