first person is for casters under level 35.

and occasionally gnomescouting zones.

Should have a choice for "both". I like to alternate between the two.

I didn't see a 'both' option therefore I didn't vote.
It's all situational man. Way I figure is if you are voting then you are playing wrong.

WoW? what's that?? While all the rage was WoW, I was on peq, soooo.... don't know what you're talking about heh. peq and another game I won't mention (hint: pew-pew), which is far from WoW by light years. But EQ, constantly tapping the cam button, left no option for my vote. Biased poll alert.

First person is just for swimming, because kedge is a nightmare in 3rd person.

Rhambuk
07-16-2014, 08:33 PM
I still have an easier time in kedge in 3rd person, as long as theres levitate. I hate trying to melee a mob and having to turn around and look up instead of just strafing and using pg up/dwn

I played my whole EQ live career in 1st person. Played WoW in first person up til about level 50 then figured out how sweet 3rd person was for PvP. Now on my run back to eq, more 3rd than 1st.

Rhambuk

I guess I could still strafe in first person, my point remains!

besides there is so much lost on the screen between 3rd and 1st person. like looking out over a field, then again but through a paper towel tube

Valdarious

As far as I have seen, you could always see your hands. Maybe it is a rogue/monk thing, lol. I use both. If I am with a tight group in a dungeon and do not have to worry about adds, I am first person. I also use when running through towns.
Out in the open or in areas I am worried about adds, always in third person or user custom 2. I like to spin around and see what is coming from all directions.

maybe its been too long or just because first person sucks :p

i played a dorf rogue and never remember seeing weapons/hands go across my first person screen when attacking. though a human or tally i might be able to see the sward go across the screen.

Well you need first person if you draw a bow, unless you have chase cam on maybe. Just depends on the class and the situation. Casters don't matter, they don't need to face the target. Using levitate, best in first person to keep altitude. Swimming, first person. Cross country running, 3rd person. Many melee prefer first in groups. caster-cc's third, melee-cc's first/third. Situational. It's EQ, not WoW, EQ is more intelligent, WoW my cat can play, so poll makes little sense without the both option (cant vote for whats not there).

It's situational.

When pulling, you can get a lot more precision in movements, jumps, quick turns and quick movements out of first person zoomed out. You can't hop around the top of Velk's and avoid those holes as effectively in third person.

When quadding, it's a lot easier in third person since you can see everything that's happening and you can pan around constantly to avoid adds, walls, objects, etc.

You also can't strafe as easily in third person. Sometimes strafing is crucial (non-sowed and trying to escape).

Haha, nice. This thread actually kind of made me want to play wow again just to play it exclusively in first person. I wouldn't play a melee of course, cause I'm just a bit goofy not totally fucking insane, but it'd be fun to see how effective I could be while totally blind to what is going on around me compared to everyone playing with their camera zoomed out 100 yards.

I play 3rd-person in other games, but I don't know how anyone can do it in EQ. If you mouse scroll out you're too low (the camera doesn't hover above you like in other games) and if you use the other way of doing 3rd-person you're constantly having to cycle through F10 options.

First person for me.

Rhambuk
07-17-2014, 02:36 PM
you should be able to lower the camera when wheeling out, right click and right left turns you up down moves your camera

I've been gradually shifting to full-time 3rd person mode more and more. It has a lot to do with bard tactics, but it also has a lot to do with how awesome my little guy has gotten and how I just want to appreciate him all the time.

Played strictly in first person on live back in 99-2001, but I just can't do it anymore. Not sure why exactly, I guess I've just been corrupted by newer mmo's. Please forgive my petulance.

I think those of you who used to but don't anymore forget the classic ui that was forced on you, I played a dorf in 3rd person and remember everytime I tried to loot a mob I had to click as close to the corner as I could get and I would still inspect myself half the time.

it was so much easier to loot/merchant/trade etc etc in first person due to the ui, now that we don't have the restrictions its not so bad

Both. I, like others, originally played in first. Sometime during velious i started switching to third. Specifically in open spaces such as EW. Where I was prone to falling into large crevasses at the entrance of Kael. I also used third person to see how close a mob was on my tail. Its about 50/50 now. Anytime I'm in a dungeon I almost always end up first person. I cannot stand my point of view being outside of the graphic area. There are several looting and targeting reasons to use first person as well.

So.... 3rd person or 3rd person? lol
Scrolling out of first person would turn it into 3rd person.

I played in first originally but switched out a month or two into classic (when I learned you could). As a kiting druid, seeing when things got too close was a lifesaver.

Anytime i've tried 3rd person indoors i have to switch out cause of the angles it creates. I might try using it more outdoors but after playing in first person for 15 years its hard to change. The occasional switch is made to see around corners or heal around corners when on a healer but most times first person is good enough. Kiting in first person just requires you to get a feel for the timing.

Rhambuk
07-18-2014, 11:44 AM
that's why I don't like most dungeons because the camps are setup in a small room, it was bad as a rogue I could position myself to fit my camera but it blows as a caster. always hated hills too, OT was the worst 5 levels for me :P

As often as I can, I go for first person simply because it creates a "more immersive experience." In largely third person games like WoW, you never see the detail of everything in the world, including the gear and faces of the people you're playing with. Everything is from as much of a distance as possible to expand your view. First person sacrifices a lot of practical benefit obviously, but the level of immersion is unparalleled. You see the sky more often, small details become more present, and the people you play with become more recognizable and humanized.
