Hello.

I downloaded the game earlier, and after not playing since I was 7 - 8 years old (Now 17) I have no idea what I'm meant to be doing. I started in qeynos, and was unable to move at first and found out the settings had weird hotkeys, then spent another 10 or 20 minutes trying to figure out how to fix my camera after pressing O, and another 5 figuring out how to open my inventory..

When I had all of that figured out I couldn't find a way out of the city, so I figured it was a tutorial zone or something. In the water I saw a cave thing so thought I was meant to go down there, but nope.. Died and lost all my items. Yay.

Spawned outside of Qeynos I guess, in a zone I really recognize since when I was a kid and I have literally no idea what I'm meant to be doing. Anyone able to answer my questions along the way on Skype or something? Or if there's any guides on here the link would be nice. xD

My skype ID is: iloverivea

what you are meant to be doing is making pals and killing mobs for xp and pixels with said pals.

I couldn't even see anyone IG, so I was unable to ask for help. :(
I also don't know if there's a global channel or what.

you might not like it but your experience is what we all started playing here again for that true just dropped in a world what the hell where do i go feeling.

yeah take the time to get your settings and hotkeys right it shouldnt be a huge deal.

Qeynos is a terrible starting area there arent a lot of other players in that area so if youre just starting dont go there start near freeport if your human/half elf

run around and learn your city.

theres no in game global chat anymore

This is the wiki site , http://wiki.project1999.com/index.php/Main_Page , it has everything youll want to know, maps of every zone, locatoins of mobs/vendors etc etc etc and a lot of useful guides for newer players.

biggest thing imo is to remember its not a race, games been out for 5 years a lot of people are set in their ways and you wont be the first to do anything. Take you're time, explore, talk to people as often as possible having friends will get you farther than anything in this game.

the wiki should answer most of your questions but if not just ask a lot of us are really helpful

If you torrented EQ Titanium your hotkeys are whatever the uploader's keys were (which are ridiculous for the version I got) ALT + O > Keys > Reset Default.

Feel free to /tell me in game if you need help, my character name is Kruptcy if you have any basic game mechanics questions... otherwise the exploration is all the fun!

xD Yeah, Alt + O was my options button. I guess I'll do the change to default thing. Didn't think of that for some reason. I'm about to get on and re-create my character at freeport as suggested above. Will post my name in case anyone wants to join me. :)

He is rerolling in Freeport because he saw you were starting a char in Qeynos. Need some ointment for that burn?

Lol. Well, I'm lost in Freeport. Can't find the way out, and whenever I do I run into loading screens. qq
Oh, and now my game has crashed and won't let me back on because I'm already logged in.

And once again, another "Not Responding" for 10 minutes. Guess I should just remake char. :l

Newbie guide: http://wiki.project1999.com/Players:Newbie
Maps: http://wiki.project1999.com/Zones

Basic direction on what to do: find low level monsters (right click on stuff; if it's red or yellow, stay away, if it's white or blue, kill it (later on, whites will be too hard to kill by yourself) and kill them. Level up. Go from there.

If you crash then you have to wait a couple minutes for the server to log your character out so you can log back in.

most classic thread ever.

error 1018 sucks, you crash but your char stays in game for several minutes waiting to get kicked you just have to wait a few minutes and you can log back in.

xD Yeah, it was annoying. I guess I'll load maps as little as possible.

How do I do more damage? I hit bats like 1, and they take 60+ seconds to kill. My Swallow Breath skill doesn't even do any nice damage and fails 9/10 goes. qq I feel like I'm missing something.

If/when you find your guild master, you can train the ability of whatever weapon you are using. Example- 1h or 2h slashing if you use a sword.

Gotta disagree here. Qeynos is smaller and easier to navigate than Freeport. It also has a lot more and better quests for newer players. Diseased pelts are great cash and exp. Gnoll fangs are great exp. There's a +3 intelligence earring quest, and +5 HP rings and earrings down in the catacombs. Blackburrow is an excellent dungeon.

The biggest problem is that part of the world is emptier than Freeport. But there's usually some people around. And if you don't start in Qeynos, you miss out on the epic journey across the continent once you outgrow that area. :D

Make sure you have a weapon equipped. If you die, you lose your items. Killing stuff hand-to-hand is too slow to be effective unless you're a monk.

yeah make sure to equip youre dagger, enc im guessing, and train at your guildmaster put points into piercing to help at first right click on the gm to train.

you wont be able to land a spell if you get hit so you have to time your casts between mob attacks, there is a weird issue that's different than live and receiving interrupts even after you cast but youll get used to it.

itll be harder at level one because everything is equal level or higher when you get a few levels youll be able to kill lower level mobs a lot faster, might not be as much experience but youll get a better feel for combat, imo.

qeynos is good if you know the area and quests but for a brand new player that doesn't know any of the quests and 90% of npcs don't respond itll be harder for them to find without checking out all the guides. I always find it easier as a newer player to make as many friends as possible off the bat, helps me stay interested and not get frustrated but that's me )

Thanks for your help guys. Is there anyway to get a map IG from anywhere or would that be against the rules? Exploring cities is near impossible without qq

no it was removed, you can play windowed by hitting alt + Enter then its just just tabbing windows back and forth for maps/any information you need on your browser

Two things you'll want to know in order to navigate with the maps on the web:

1. Use the /loc command to display your current coordinates. It will output them in a (y, x, z) format. You can compare this to the coordinates on a map if you get lost.

2. Find your trainer, and put one skill point into "Sense Heading." This is the skill you use to find out what direction you are facing. At first, it will be all but worthless. But after you have the skill leveled up it will be extremely useful for finding your way around a new zone. To level it faster, you should put sense heading on one of your hot bars and keybind it to one of your movement keys.

I am often in Qeynos with my Druid on my down time and when I am doing some AFK stuff from time to time. I always provide free buffs and binds. There is also a high level druid there named Kimmie that provides buffs and stuff. I guess it depends on your playtime really though.

After reading this thread I feel like you need to log out of the forums, log back in to EQ and just simply explore, if it takes you 3 hours to learn the city and find your trainer then so be it. We all started off learning and you will continue to explore and learn as you are now. This type of game that just throws you in a world with no direction is what made it so great.

SO GO EXPLORE! Stick with it, the rewards and sense of accomplishment of this game are like no other.
