Played on Rallos Zek for 4 years and enjoyed it 95% of the time. PvP makes EQ an entirely different game.

That being said, EQ PvP isn't balanced and can be extremely frustrating. It's not really skill-based PvP. Sure, in some instances the better or more seasoned player can overcome a weaker opponent, but some classes just dominate. EQ PvP, imo, is about the group battles and politics.

Some of the best times and encounters involved guilds warring each other, fighting over spawns, "claiming" zones, and never really being "safe" -- always keeping an eye out for who is in the zone.

I have no idea if red99 resembles what I remember about my Rallos Zek days, but the low population is reason enough not to invest my time.

This is pretty damn close to eq pvp and if it doesn't do it for you then don't bother.

The thing about it is, the vast majority of any encounter in any game is preparation. If it wasn't, we'd be complaining about the lack of depth and homogenous feeling of our class selection. I like the idea of shining in different situations and being useless in others. It's kind of what makes the game.

That and pvp is not the end of the line. There are still xp groups, the need to move around and farming groups formed daily not to mention a metric fuck ton of raid targets to choose from*. The game feels more complete with pvp and it's accomplished by giving you something more to think about than simply the pve content ahead of you. That and you can finally use pages two and three in your spellbook.

Give it a try, worst case scenario you find out which classes are effective and which aren't.

Since 80% of the players outside the core are warm bodies and capable of following basic instructions I would say you could get away with boxing in your blue character while you grind with your red one.

Teams is so much more fun and Vallon had a lot more pvp than Rallos ever did. Knowing who your enemy is and attacking them w/o question (I know this happens eventually in the high lvl game with guild wars but sucks in the low level game (blue + pk gankers) which you need for a thriving server).
Vallon invented LnS (player enforced not gm enforced which is the best kind of rules) eventually sucked due to no hard coding of teams and everyone started "cheating".
I'd give teams a try when (if) it is made.

I liked in PvP having guild wars, it was like teams. You'd see someone with a piece of Formosa tag and know if you didn't hit them first they will hit you.

And you felt safe when with your AD team..
