View Full Version : Do people still play P99?

I quit playing after getting a few toons in my 50s, but I'm curious why you all continue to play. I had my fill of nostalgia

So because you got bored, everyone else should quit?

Nobody actually plays anymore, we all just make up stories on the forums about playing. All of the drama without the fuss

The Lorax makes me log in from time to time to make sure there's still trees.

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not.

For most people its the allure of joining the back of a queue and moving slowly to the front.

Why does anyone do anything? They enjoy what they are doing, or they are forced to play by the man!

Do people still play? There are 602 online (http://www.project1999.com/index.php) right now. Why do I still play? Not nostalgia; EQ is a great game with a lot of depth, lots of different areas and play styles, and different character classes to explore.

I play because I wish I was still that 13 year old kid without all the responsibility that I currently have.

A mortgage, 2 car payments, and 3 people depending on me to live? Where the hell did the time go...

I can somewhat see where his question is coming from.

Seems like with the current content....unless you are just doing alt-questing. The normaly daily play is very recycled.

I will be coming back when Velious is released....however there is no motivation for me log in everyday and do the same fucking thing day in and day out.

perhaps I should go to RED.......

This post makes me question my motivations for playing and challenges my fragile beliefs that it's fun. Because of this, I am responding in anger.

Nostalgia? Some people never stopped playing eq to experience this "nostalgia" thing. Even after eq live went all stupid, the emu project started up shortly before as the refuge from SOE's fail live servers (at least for those of us that didn't run off to WoW). Even when they shut down the last remaining good server, the mac server (was stuck in time), the same game style was already running on the emu and with a healthy population, and that before p99 was around. Now for p99, it offers improvements over the general list of emu's, so yet another worthy server for us to keep playing on. And with the history of the emu project, even more play-worthy server will eventually come on-line, providing many years of game-play for us old eq players. Nostalgia? meh

Server chat is rife at the moment with knocking the "red" (PvP) server and trying to make it seem like a hostile place to play.

Please treat the trolls accordingly.

Looks like the only one knocking servers around here is you!

I'm not knocking anything but it seems like an accusation of telling me I'm trolling in a thread of the same theme ;)

Camping/queueing/TunnelQuesting/rule lawyering all part of the P99 fabric pals, we all love it...apparently.

P99 is a pretty good Britain simulator. I like to play EQ on that rare occasion when the weather is too nice to go outside. Almost thirty years of work have gone in to this greyish English pallor and I am not going to risk it now! Fortunately lots of arctic wind and rain at the moment as befits summer.

Hurrah for Britain!

I guess TunnelQuest does capture a certain market vibe here and we do like to gamble ;)

Like anywhere else I suppose, we play more in the winter when the weather is cold/wet/both.

If you didn't rush you wouldn't burn out.

Nothing better out there.

And nostalgia's got nothing to do with it.

I still play because I only started in May of this year. Having fun slowly leveling towards 60 as I no longer have the insane amounts of time I had back in '99-'02.

i just joined after reading about P99 several times over the course of the past few years (as in 2005 to now since i quite EQ).

Started an Enchanter last night. I've also made the mistake of paying for a new subscription with the current "Live" servers (the "live" servers peaked my interest, then i found P99 again!)

I've convinced a friend to play with me on live, since its also F2P now. I'm trying to convince him that this would be SO MUCH MORE FUN on p99.

We're also both into Elder Scrolls Online, but as soon as i got back into EQ i noticed what i was missing :) EVERYTHING...

We will see... we will see...

I've never juggled Multiple MMOs before, i feel like an internet pro now...

I've never juggled Multiple MMOs before, i feel like an internet pro now...I've always played at least two, one usually a sandbox with faction wars. Even in the early days of EQ, I had UO still going.Though FW wasn't so good there, was more about huge RP-alliance PVP guild wars. Less good games around now though, and I'm no fan of f2p, but a few games still around.

Keeps it interesting. I play a free UO shard, a free DaoC pre-ToA shard, p99, and a WotLK WoW server.

I feel like I might be living in the past.

I am interested in the WotLK WoW server. I did not know these existed... is there a list of EMU servers out there?

I don't know the rules on linking to other emus here. If you search 'dalaran-wow' in google though, you should be able to find it pretty easily.

I was starting to feel this too... I even drive a 1995 300ZX and watch 90's movies way too much. :X

Anyhow, I've got a few items including a Fungi Tunic I don't really have any need for, are there still newbie rafflers out there?

Might be talking about Molten-WoW. They have WoTLK and Cataclysm svrs. I played on the Molten server for quite a while.
