So I read over and over again on the forums that bards are broken, yet noone has ever gone into what makes bards broken... 'm just curious as to why people say that? I've seen posts about how mob speed and how far away mobs can hit you hurt bards soloing abilities but I don't see how that would 'break' the class so I'm assuming there is more behind people saying they are broken. also, I am aware that bards should be able to solo decently in areas they can swarm kite but I enjoy duoing since me and my friend play on 99 together. What would be a good duo partner for a bard? I'd assume a wizard for his good aoeing ability to go along with mykiting?

I don't think "swarm kiting" works correctly either, beyond the run speed issue. Could be wrong though.

Bards can AOE kite large amounts of mobs on this server (it's just a little harder because of mob hitboxes being larger - not sure why this hasn't been fixed but if you want to discuss it you can go to the Bugs forum), but they can't swarm kite with charm at all, though this is being discussed and might be fixed in the future if the devs are willing/able.

When I first started, there were lots of little annoying issues with Bards (casting bars disappearing, not being able to interrupt your own songs, songs immediately ending if you sit down, etc.) which they've largely fixed. Depending on how you played a Bard on live and what you found fun about it, you're very likely to still enjoy it/do well with it on p99.

There's some confusion because when I think of "swarm kiting", I assume people are talking about the method where a Bard kills a swarm of enemies by slowly taking out one at a time by charming it against the rest of the horde.

Yah I think there are some terminology misunderstandings. I always thought swarm kiting was was AE kiting, and charm kiting was swarm kiting. All this is why we need a bard section to the forums, so we can properly define our terms and discuss our findings.

back in the good ole days of live there was 2 types of swarm kiting. charm swarm where you get the mobs to kill your charmed pets 1 at a time, and AE swarm where you run in circles landing the AE dots on the stack.

I used to do the later version. i regularly used to gather 20-30 mobs into a pile and kill them with AE swarm (cougars in iceclad was good for this)

The most i managed was about 50 in one of the gunthak zones. it only worked for me once though as my gear wasn't the best. around 30 was usually my limit.

they nerfed a bards ability to do this later on by making sure mobs that were moving wouldn't take damage from any AE song (can't rememer when that was)

anyway, there is a vid posted by someone on this forum that has tried and succeeded in this method he said he's managed about 15 i think, so it is possible but maybe not in the quantities it used to be possible in. I had heard rumors of some bards doing over 100 mobs via AE swarming on live

Although bards aren't quite what they were on live....they are a thousand times better than they were 6 months ago.(Just came back after 6 month break). So to whichever developer has been working on bards, you have my two thumbs up.
