Anyone got anything for mobile wifi for someone who may be traveling cross country frequently? Thinking Verizon with enough data to hang when I can't find some mobile wifi. Think pilot / flying j, ta, etc. have yearly plans as well for their wifi. Plan to speed test them tomorrow to see if acceptable ping.

Say I'm just using VOIP / Games on it maybe 3-4h / day, what kind of bandwidth usage am I looking at on the month ya reckon? 20gb cover it if I can do half of that on unlimited wifi?

My house is a mile off the road in somewhat rural Virginia. Because of this, I can't get broadband. I use Verizon's 4g LTE router thingy, which can be taken anywhere, and spend $120 a month for 20gb of data. It's expensive, but I get like 40 pings on Battlefield 4 and CS:GO. I play a lot of games, browse a ton of reddit and other sites, and definitely go through all 20gb each month. The main thing I have to avoid is watching videos, and I try not to stream anything. It might not be the best option for you, but it works well, is reliable, and isn't shitty like satellite for gaming.

EQ uses hardly any data at all fyi. Mumble / TS / Ventrilo can use up some data if you don't set it up right.

Also, you suck.

Also, if you like to go on Twitch, it uses TONS of data.

How can I set up TS to not crush data? Lower quality audio codecs? Robot heallun making a return?

And I really do suck. I fully apologize. Gotta go earn cash tho :( I think gunnter shinko and a few others are making use of the accounts as they may though. I imagine target is like a 24/7 trak tank now and heallun is the VP zone in rez bot when sly isn't on, heh.

Also, EQ is life. Once I get more situated I might be able to make a raid or two here and there. God I'll try. 80-85% heallun won't be back for a minute though.

I've been busy as fuck lately with work and school and haven't been around much at all. Will be back to playing soonish though. Good luck with what you're doing and make dat paper bra.

As to TS, yeah you nailed it. Lower quality audio codecs. I haven't crunched numbers on TS (need to), but with my friends and mine mumble you could lower the compression quality (and have other people lower it that you talk to a lot). We use 12.8 kb/s. It's not THAT BAD sounding, but definitely saves on the data.

If you do go a route similar to what I use, just be very mindful and monitor your data usage closely for the first couple weeks or a month. Also, don't get drunk and pass out with video streaming because I ate through 5gigs in one night by leaving Cosmos playing on Discovery's website. It was a quick waste of $40ish bucks.

I feel dirty paying like a $110 for 10gb. It's...all so wrong.

Also worth noting, with Verizon, you have to sign a 2 year contract. I'm pretty anti-contracts like that (I'm no-contract for cell phone), but Verizon easily had the best speeds for my area at least. You definitely pay for it though... The router is easily small enough to travel with.

Yeah it's fuckin highway robbery paying $120 for 20gb of data month, but I really have no other option. It definitely took some adjusting going from uncapped broadband to this.

Jah. But I think you can just turn your phone into a hotspot with them and get the same data plans. Which would at least let me have a phone with a decent connection when I needed it as well.

Heallun dogg just ask me. T-mobile month-to-month. $30/mo, unlimited free tethering, works great, only downside is my number was previously used by drug dealer.

Verizon/AT&T/other giant providers are literally a scam if you don't have a family plan with 90 people on it (and even then, maybe). seriously

really though I remote into work while my boy drives all the time. I've even played EQ on it (2 people) when my cable was out, not much lag. Smoke weed everyday.

T-mobile is terrible outside of urban centers. There will be lots of travel and i can't guarantee i'll be anywhere near civilization. Even the AT&T network starts falling apart in the crazy rural areas. It's pretty much verizon only, but their data rates are fucking criminal.

you're right though, coverage is terrible. Sadly Verizon is probably your best bet.

Get a Metro PCS phone, root the thing (watch it done on youtube etc. if you don't know how), and download pda.net or smart hotspot etc. The apps allow you to hide the data usage by stripping user info from the packets. 65 bucks a month for unlimited data (5g? for hotspot), runs generally at 3-9 down 1up, no contract.

NFC about national coverage but never had issues from Tahoe to San Francisco daily.

This sounds like a good possibility. I'll look into it but I think I'd like to have a technical advisor while I do it :P Rooting can be risky if you don't know what you're doing. Does metro PCS use the verizon network?
