Wondering if this extends to guild forums where we might bet on NFL games each week for small amounts of plat?
Say I want 49ers to win by 5 or more points, and guildy wants Cowboys to win or lose by less than 5. But this is all done on guild forums, and winner wins like 5k. Is this an issue?
Edit: Not allowed.
dont do it they are watching you!

Don't be a weakling and bet on point spreads first off. Pick winner/loser, points don't matter. Secondly, good question. I'm sure this is more common than most people assume.

I'm no GM, but as I understand it the devs aren't against casinos because they hate gambling, they're against them because the casinos create real customer service headaches for them. Since the GMS have no way of even knowing about your NFL betting, let alone having it cause problems for them, I'd be really surprised if it was banned.

Also if you faked a bet on these forums for 100k and really just payed someone 50$ for 100k.... as in RMT
I'm gonna guess they will not support it.
...or at the very least not allow people aid when they don't get their winnings until they realize it is all one big RMT scam and then ban it.

Right, but people can do that already. I can go in to some forum the GMs can't see and offer to give someone a backrub for $100 ... and then completely un-relatedly they could just happen to give me a Fungi. And then I could forget to give them the backrub.
The point is, RMTers can come up with any number of excuses, but when the GMs see them giving their 4th fungi away and not getting any plat back someone's getting a ban, no matter what creative excuse they give.
But none of that is any reason to start banning people who make completely private bets that don't impact the server staff at all.

well idk what you argue with me about it, I'm not the one making the rules.
Due to numerous issues resulting from player run casinos and to reflect similar policies enacted on Live during classic, as well as other MMORPG's, we have decided to prohibit the operation, advertisement, or use of "casinos", including, but not limited to, dice rolls, card games, "guessing" games, and any other form of gambling. Please use your best discretion when determining what constitutes "gambling".

Sports betting is absolutely gambling. But the issue here is that its not mass advertised, not done in game, it's not with strangers, and it's not for fungis. Just guildies betting plat on NFL games for fun.

Juntsie review dis thread and conclude dat American Futball gamble likely prohibited cuz it gambling and GM likely to rule such given broad scope of rule. Juntsie caution against dis, or at least public statement about dis. Not smart.
Juntsie, however, could write motion and argument dat dis not gambling, but he charge high rate of 3k per mintue, cuz motion not likely to prevail. Send tell if interested.

Ok, technically sports betting probably does violate the rules. But you know what else violates the rules? Half the names on the server. But you don't see any enforcement of that.
The point is, the GMs don't just want to kill everyone's fun, they just want less headaches. When someone's name annoys someone else and they file a petition on it, that's a headache and the GMs might actually act on the name policy. But otherwise you won't see them running around Norath looking to force everyone to change their name.
Similarly here, it doesn't matter if the gambling technically violates the rules or not: if you make a private bet on a private guild forum and the only thing the GMs ever see is a one-time plat transfer between two guildies, nothing's going to happen. The GMs are not going to infiltrate your guild just so they can get on to your guild forum and find out about gambling they need to ban.
Now, if you're stupid enough to lose a bet, and the person you're betting with doesn't pay, so you petition the GMs to complain ... well then *cough* all bets are off.

True, if its done among pals and everyone knows each other... the best games go unposted and there's no public manhunt :p

one-time plat transfer between two guildies
We have been known to investigate one time plat transfers....
Do things like this at your own risk. If your friends gets banned for RMT, and some transaction like this occurs between you and him/her then you'll almost certainly be banned as well.

I assume it's not this cut and dry. I've probably had at least 5 fungis corpsed at the same time, and transferred them all over to their respective owners for no plat in return back when I hardcore camped king during the invis pulling era. I never even considered that it could look like RMT until you mentioned this, but I was never talked to by a GM or anything.
I probably hit 10+ fungi trades for nothing in return within the same day. The 200k someone gave me for selling my fungis probably looked pretty suspicious now that I think of it too.
Makes me even more suspicious of all the people who claim "accidental" RMT bans, the GMs do their homework.
