View Full Version : The PVP answer?

I, myself, am not interested in PvP all that much but I have been reading all these PvP threads and I was thinking to myself:

Is it possible to setup an extra server once a month for PvPing? Kind of like the test server where our accounts are duplicated back to the last server backup and all of our characters and items are intact.

I am not sure if this is possible but could this be an aswer to PvP that everyone could agree on?

The people that dont want to PvP will have less population on the server during this period and the people that do want to PvP will have all of Norrath to do it in.

Thoughts?

my thought is thus. if there are so many people on the server interested in pvp, where are they? if such vocal members of the community want pvp, why don't they organize something? weekly pvp... 1 vs 1 in freeport, group vs group in rathe. Once a month best of best tournament with entry fee and platinum or item prizes. Guild sponsored pvp events.

It seems some players want the onus of orchestrating pvp to rest squarely on the shoulders of the devs. Why? PvP is ultimately based on the contributions of the players. If no one wants to PvP, no one will. If everyone does, the tools are there already.

How bout two like-minded PvPers form guilds Blue and Red (or whatever) and start inviting people who would like to concentrate on PvP. Then, finding a fight is as simple as /who blue all, or /who red all, telling a member/members of the opposing guild, and getting together somewhere to fight. Shit, why not just have one guild full of PvPers? Then they can organize matches amongst themselves.

Just some ideas. We're never going to have open world PvP.

None of that is pvp. PvP is about strategical group versus group battles over contested content.

If a GM spawned a mob in the middle of the Arena for one day a month that was multiple group able and dropped classic level gear that would be a fun way to pvp when you die you are out and the last person standings guild gets one attempt if they wipe everyone is back in the game. The item would have to be good enough to warrant attempts but of inline with the games content I would think it could drop random campable items like 1-2 a time like a yak Geb GBS random EC trash nothing major.

or maybe have it drop resist gear to keep with the pvp theme.

Which belongs in a PVP server, not a PVE server like this one.

There was a PVP capture the flag event not too long ago that was supposed to be a regular thing... what happened to it?

What happened to the World War PVP event?

Where are all these people that are magically interested in PVP when the PVP stuff actually makes it to the server?

Because you need to have a pvp player to make pvp content if you have someone who hates pvp or has never pvp'd to make content that interests pvpers is not gonna happen.

Capture the flag is not what the pvp wants they want to crush other players and take something they wanted from them.

Hence dangle a juicy item in the arena and watch people battle over it.

I don't want to be crushed or have my stuff taken away. :(

"None of that is pvp. PvP is about strategical group versus group battles over contested content."

player vs. player = pvp. PvP is about besting other players in head to head competition. Your definition is extended, and from what frame of reference? please return to warhammer online or something, this is everquest

"Because you need to have a pvp player to make pvp content if you have someone who hates pvp or has never pvp'd to make content that interests pvpers is not gonna happen."

You are defeating yourself with that statement, that's pretty much exactly what i said -- if pvpers want pvp so badly, why can't they put together something themselves? If there are not enough pvpers to make this happen, why any struggles at all over pvp?

/boggled at your reasoning sir. not trying to flame, but really. It sounds like you want to turn this into some Aion-esque PvPvE epic territorial battle, which is not EQ classic in the least.

When I played on VZ (all I really ever played in classic) I actually liked it when they got rid of the item loot.

It was bugged to begin with (pack items in bags and they can't be taken). This gave a huge advantage to casters who could PvP while naked with only a slight loss in effectiveness. Melee classes were screwed without their gear and thus had to equip it and potentially lose it.

Coin only loot gives you a small token for a PvP kill, yet doesn't make one type of player have a significant advantage over the other.
