Just found the server a couple weeks ago & started with a remake of my wizard from back in the day, having a great time.

I started wondering though how fun raiding is going to actually be end game.

On live I never had the time or inclination to join the top raid guilds so I always sought out the ‘2nd’ or ‘3rd’ tier raid guilds, the casual / fun ones. Much more enjoyable, but that meant we usually were raiding an expansion or so behind. This was fine though since the top guilds had moved on by then so we always had something to do.

My concern now is what happens when the progression ends at velious? It may take me some time after velious to be ready to raid in velious but since that’s the end, there could be nothing left for a casual raider.

Any thoughts on how this will pan out? Will the top guilds farm everything so much they all get fully decked out & bored? Will they keep everything perma killed no matter how decked out they get? Will there be any point to attempting velious boss quest turn ins since the bosses will almost certainly be killed the moment they spawn?

I realize this is years away but since we have a definitive end point I just have to wonder what happens when everyone gets to the very end?

As a side note, any suggestions for a good casual / fun raid guild to seek out here?

get a feel for the game, and give yourself time to get to know the guild makeups on the server. it won't take long for you to figure out whats what here.

Thanks for the response, I'm sure I'll get a feel for the guilds eventually but my main question i guess is basically: is there room for a casual raider on this server? With the server ending at velious, will a casual raider ever get a chance to raid in velious, or will they be forever stuck in kunark till the end of time?

heh, mosey on over to the rants n flames section to get a slanted taste of the high end raiding joy from the leading egoists on p1999.

Fixed.

Has nothing to do with server progression, but it's in sole discretion of raiding guilds and their requirements if you get accepted as a casual player. Right now everything remotely considered worthwhile is farmed to death and get killed the moment it spawns. Once Kunark is live, raiding guilds are going to move on and the planes will be abandoned, so family guilds, alliances and open raids should be able to succeed. It's kinda like it was on EQ live. That said, unlike back to the day everybody knows how to kill targets and there are not only 1-2 raid capable guilds on P99, but 5 or more.

Raiding isn't very fun here if you're not the type of person that has to be miserable to be happy.

Long way to velious, things could change.

Can do hate-fear trash in a more casual guild. Kunark will come before ya know it too if you take time to enjoy the game.

The biggest problem with classic raiding is that there's limited content. There's really only enough for one or two dedicated raid guilds, and if more want to raid, it becomes contentious. You could say that it creates an interesting atmosphere and guild rivalries and so on, things that we all remember with varying degrees of fondness and nostalgia, and it did make the world more dynamic and meaningful. Nevertheless, it undeniably compromises the experience for anyone who isn't in one of the select few guilds that have control over the raid scene, and it is a serious issue for the rest of the playerbase as there essentially isn't any content beyond LGuk/SolB (or OS/Karnors, or Velks/Kael trash etc.)

being the "top" raiding guild is all about progression. i believe that once guilds equip their 6th and 7th string of each class, they will get bored, burn out, and fade from the "hardcore" raiding scene. By then, you might be ready to start raiding =P

This is sort of what I'm hoping for i suppose. It's also possible there may be enough targets in velious to handle more than 1~2 guilds at a time. I assume the top guilds will focus on ntov, should leave room for farming etov, kael, etc yes?

the same thing that's happening now. the end-game will become stagnant, everyone will have gigantic hordes of wealth and nothing to spend it on, and every mob will be camped for 24 hours before it spawns.

the only thing preventing this server from dying is the fact that kunark is coming out "soon."

Depends what you mean by "dying". If every top raiding guild quit right now due to boredom or whatever I don't think the server would come crashing to a halt. Probably 70+% of the server doesn't raid.

people should relax a little, roll an Alt and enjoy the damn game instead of trying to smash through it as fast as possible. I was so happy when Sony did the progression servers until people smashed through em so fast and it was post classic in no time. Thankfully this server isn't releasing expantions based on what a few people do.

I consider myself a hardcore raider but my memories of EQ were of the long road to 50 rather then the raids i did after. I completely understand the OPs point but my thoughts on it are that the people at the top are not to camp something once all their people have everything they want. May take a while but there should be room for casual raiders.
