Argg....right now my sister's kids are too fat, it even scares me, and i thought i was fat when i was young, but these kids scare me. We try and control their eating, but they are always stuffing their mouths, and the Grandma cooking all the time doesnt help. We recently got em a treadmill, but they avoid it. I have to force them to walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, i even had to show 1 of my nieces how to walk right, really, she was walking like it was torture, so i got on it and was like "just walk normally with energy", she looked like she was carrying 50lb weights or something...scary.

BMI is a joke of a scale. Im 6ft 2in at 215-220lbs and thats due to correct eating and working out. That puts me at the 27-28 range. Yeah, America has been breeding fat asses, but screw genetics, just follow a simple plan. Calories in < Calories out -- weight drops.

Ever since i moved down to the cuntry, I've become 12 pounds overweight due to a sedentary lifestyle. It has taken me about 3 years to get to this stage of "overweight" but my metabolism is slowing down.
When you don't have stuff to do to keep you motivated (Played shit tons of sports with friends before I moved to a different state) it's fucking hard to stay on track.

You know what the fucking problem is? Eating healthy costs so much more and that is plain ridiculous. As someone else in the thread said too fuck all these stupid diet plans just lower your caloric intake and watch the pounds drop. It is easy as that. In a month I have lost 25 pounds 240-215 just by cutting down on my calories. Every day I lose weight just by calculating my calories.

I kinda follow this approach, i eat the amount i work, if it has been a busy day i eat alot, if im just sitting around i eat very little. If you have developed a routine of eating all the time, it doesnt mean you have to keep eating like that, just eat less. I usually eat one big meal a day, and the rest of the day is bites here and there, and i try to control my cravings by having bites of stuff that i suddenly yearn for. I am hovering around my average weight for my height, and i never feel hungry.

Yeah, I just switched jobs and my last one was very physically intensive and I got older so my metabolism slowed down. I never was able to gain weight even if I tried but when I saw I hit 240 I knew it was time to do something about it. I'm 6'2 and 210 now just from counting calories. I realized the key was that if I wasn't going to cut enough on a certain day that I had to at least maintain and not gain.
I also eat a lot more fat free and low fat because I don't really notice the difference. My big problem was I wouldn't eat all day and then I would gorge at night and just go to bed. A lot of people eat until they are overly full and you can stop before that point. I noticed that if you stop eating for a few minutes the fullness will set in after a few minutes.

What do you normally eat, and what is 'eating healthy' to you?
I wonder if being costed out of healthy eating is a regional thing. Where I am you can get a bunch of bananas for the same price as a standard chocolate bar; this kind of thing makes it easy to choose fruit as a snack!
Where I live frozen peas are £1.00/kilo, which I think is roughly $1.00 / 20 oz. I assume there are places within walking distance that you can buy frozen veg from (or use a delivery/online service instead), how do our prices compare to yours?
Deldanko
09-08-2014, 05:41 PM
its not more expensive. Go to costco, but some chicken breasts, get some sweet potatoes, some mixed greens and good luck.
Try this, go online and find a macro-nutrient diet for your weight goals. i.e: 150g protein 220g carbs 60g fat - 2020cal. Now track what you realistically eat for about 2 weeks. Try an app like myfitnesspal or something. Youll come to find youre eating (mote likely) 100g protein 350 carbs and maybe 100-120 fats. Thats why youre gaining weight.
if you can handle a deficit cal count of 200-300 youll start losing weight. some of you will be cutting 1000+ calories. a simple conversion is 3500 cal = 1 lb. Many of overweight people have very high sodium and retain an absurd amount of water, dont quit the water, just lower the sodium to a normal level.
If any of you want a more personalized plan with specific goals in mind send me a PM. I've been dieting and lifting for a long time. 80% diet 20% workouts so work on your food.

Two things that really helped me when I needed to drop a few... I switched from pop to water (or water with Crystal Light drink mix). It was really hard for a while but it got better and I don't even miss the pop anymore. That was 8 years ago.
Get a calorie counter app. I use Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker by MyFitnessPal. I was surprised how well this helps in both losing weight and for maintenance. Literally keeping track of everything you eat and drink might sound depressing at first but when I saw how effective it was, I was lots happier and much more motivated to keep using it.
P.S. Stay far away from the KFC Doubledown. You know who you are. Lol

Don't have to eat especially healthy foods. Just don't eat too much relative to your activity level. As noted above, avoiding pop or other sugary drinks is also a good way to keep away from useless calories. Maintaining a decent activity level probably helps some as well. Sitting on the computer playing video games 50 hours a week won't typically promote weight loss unless you're so addicted that you forget to eat, too. Heck it's summer. I haven't even played a video game since about June.
I suspect the most important factor in staying slim is the very desire to stay slim: Once a person accepts being overweight, he'll probably stay that way.

In the US, most people do not live within walking distance of a grocery store. The closest one to my house is about 3 miles (walkable, yeah, but an hour each way?). Stores in my area don't typically deliver, though there might be third-party services. I heard the rather expensive Whole Foods store will getting this service soon. There are convenient stores closer, but they don't really sell that sort of thing-- no produce, no frozen veggies.

first off fresh fruit for breakfast is just sugar and not healthy. Healthy would look like egg whites, some spinach, mushrooms ect and a small bowl of oatmeal. That the prob man, nobody knows healthy. costco you can get chicken breast for around 2$ or so a breast. plus mixed greens, a sweet potato and some brown rice. youre looking at a total meal costing you 5-7$. and thats probably a large meal. Now dont throw on a shit ton of dressing, and sauces (hot sauce is usually fine) and youll be good.

Oats cheaper than sugary cereal. And cornflakes/bran flakes.
I disagree fresh fruit is de facto unhealthy; yes fruit is sugary, so having too much of it isn't ideal, but healthy eating is about moderation, not completely cutting sugar/fat out of the diet.
Even cola is healthy in the right circumstances (when you are ill and losing a lot of fluid and crap... best drank flat so it doesn't further aggravate your stomach though).
