Because him leaving to AFK for awhile makes it look exactly like you were boxing.
Should've told Eunomia to wait 1min while your roommate runs upstairs to perform her test.

Did you think the "no two-box" rule was taken lightly?
Our Guide's don't just "show up" without observing first. Eunomia was likely watching for quite some time before revealing herself to you. She has a lot of experience dealing with two-boxing and has basically written the book on two-box procedure here on Project 1999.
SELECT * FROM `pc_login` where accid in (*ACCID'S REDACTED*) order by ts desc limit 0,5000
You had two clients open on one PC. As you can see above, I checked the login table in case an error was made. Eunomia did exactly what she was supposed to do and suspended you.
If you choose to play here in the future, please follow the rules. Also, if you'd like to protest a ban/suspension, use the petition forum. Making a post in server chat usually just makes your situation worse.

So, the two of us were banned because one person decided to refill an empty glass while the GM had him frozen in place? I'm not quite sure that I follow that logic.
It's actually pretty funny that out of the two of us, he had gear because I sold mine to get him stuff, when he never played EQ in the first place. Then, for whatever reason, a GM shows up and (after calling us retarded, mind you) decides that we're boxing. Good lord; it's a 16 year old game, there's no need, considering the majority of us playing have a good idea of where to go and what to do in the first place.

We were in blackburrow, when a GM (Euphora, or something along those lines) shows up and says she's checking for boxing. She proceeds to question both of us, and he /sits and goes downstairs to make a drink.

The only reason I asked is because I read a staff post that said the system may think you're logged in twice if you attempt to log into another account immediately after logging out.

From the guide application:
"2 Players are being reported as being suspected of 2 boxing. How would you handle this situation?"
I would run the script:
SELECT * FROM `pc_login` where accid in (*ACCID'S REDACTED*) order by ts desc limit 0,5000
and have them run in opposite circles.
Boom - 1 question closer to finishing this guide application. Thanks guys.

The *worst* that happens is if you try to log in on another account too soon you get a message that says you're blocked at the moment. If you completely close EQ again and log back in, the message should be clear and theres no issue.

Unfortunately, besides Rogean and Nilbog, I'm the only one with access to that table :D
Guides work purely off the front-end interface (pre-constructed queries in a VGUI) and have no "back end" access (no pre-built queries, have to enter custom every time).
There are no "right answers" on the Guide application. It's there solely to help us ascertain what kind of person you are and how you think. We get even more in-depth if we pull you for an interview, but in order to get to that point we have to like what we see on your application!

This! And especially if you are swapping toons and do so using the /ex command to get out faster. For an example, I was on Jenithia one night porting a guildee and as most of you druids know its almost impossible to do a full 30 second /camp at the rings in Feerott due to the mobs hitting you. So I /ex'd. I then switched to a cleric on a separate account. As soon as I was on the cleric I got a tell from Sirken asking why I was logged into Jenithia and the cleric at the same time briefly. I explained it and was told to always make sure you do a full /camp and exit properly, because if you don't, it will always appear as if you're 2 boxing. Learn from my mistake and exit properly if you are going to swap toons/accounts :)

Trouble with this rule is it really only affects the ignorant. Duplicate ip addresses are easily avoided. I bet there's a ton of people 2 boxing with impunity.
Perhaps more than were 2 boxing back on classic live, since it was never disallowed in classic.

Moreso than people who don't have an IP exemption I'd imagine - good to see the exemptions being checked on and abuses of them resulting in suspensions etc.
Oh so people who use IP exemptions to /q and log another character immediately do register as 2 boxing to you?
It is considered an abuse of the IP exemption and has been admonished/punished in the past.
Wait 30 seconds before hitting enter world if you don't have aggro after a /q. Give it a few minutes if you did have aggro.

For about 60 seconds, or however long it takes your account to clear out of the game which is usually 30 seconds to a minute.

Because /q isnt classic I suppose or something like that. Might need to do some more work on dsetup.dll to distinguish between someone that /q and someone that /camped out. Should be easy since the no response to packets sent thing should be the same from someone that /camp 'ed out and someone that /q.

Not really about classic or not.
/q, by its nature, skips steps in the natural camping procedure that causes the system to delay notice.

/q is fine to use, just give it a couple minutes between log ins or save yourself time and know for sure you are out of game with /camp

Not really that big of a deal, and not really worth the effort to code. It's pretty clear who's boxing and who was just switching characters too fast.
If, as a player, you're concerned about it, simply wait a minute or two after /q'ing. It's never been an issue for us from a CSR standpoint, though.

I'm not making any claims of the sort towards anything or to validate people breaking the rules, because they are the rules. Doesn't change boxing was classic. Just like item recharging wasn't a common practice like it is now, etc but I'm sure you will try to claim validity to those causes. Could go on, but I strongly do feel you know what I'm talking about and just choose to argue for some absurd reason.

Do you ban someone because someone with a different ip address is afk.

No they don't. Take off the tin foil hat.
Does the rule apply to the forums? What I mean is, is having multiple forum accounts that you post from against the rules? Is it a bannable offense?

No, I 100% don't care for boxing, I just love the people in threads like this that will sit in their chair all high and mighty against someone that was boxing as if people didn't do it, but as soon as someone groups something else up in the same boat, they defend it like there is no tomorrow so that they can use and abuse said mechanics that did exist in the same form as boxing was in 1999 (for example, that's why I pointed out item recharging). Again though, I personally could care less for boxing, but I wouldn't jump as fast as I could to accuse someone of ruining the classic experience of the game for doing something, that well, existed during classic.
These rules are in place though, and should be followed no matter how much someone agrees with it or doesn't. The OP is dumb to not only try and get out of it like the staff is some kind of morons, but to keep arguing after someone on the staff pointed out how they know for certainty that they were boxing.

I used to 6 box on live and loved it. Getting way too old to do that anymore, but I can see the Devs not wanting it on here, but boxing was classic like it or not. It would suck to get banned if you were innocent so it is sort of a he said, she said, thingy for sure.
I would be not be telling the truth if I said I never moved his toon out of harms way a few times when he was on the crapper. It is a slippery slope. But I hardly ever play anymore so no big deal to me. :o

My younger brother was in a surfing accident several years ago when he wiped out really bad, and was under water for nearly 10 minutes and repeatedly stung by jellyfish.
Since then, I've tried to live up to the motto from the greatest film of all time, New Jack City: I AM my brother's keeper.
He is still paralyzed from all the many jellyfish stings he suffered that day, but I take care of him, and I play his favorite game with him, Everquest.
Due to his paralysis, and the fact his hands are still swollen 10x normal size because of the sheer number of jellyfish stings he had suffered (this was a few years ago), he cannot control his character, but he communicates to me by winking the one eye that is not paralyzed -- "C-O-M-P-L-E-T-E _ H-E-A-L _ I-N-C" he'll blink at me in Morse code, and that is how I know I am supposed to have his char cast complete heal on me so I don't die.
After we kill a mob, he blinks Y-A-A-A-A-A-S-S-S at me, and let me tell you, I wouldn't trade that feeling for a million dollars.
So, GM's, this is what you have ruined. My brother woke up and winked at me this morning, "M-A-Y-B-E _ T-H-E-R-E _ I-S _ N-O _ G-O-D."
So, thanks gm's. Thanks.
