hey guys,
i recently heard about this and I have to say
how incredibly happy I am to know such a thing exists
now...to business...
I'd like to remake my first toon -- a halfling rogue, but seeing/reading that some people have had trouble finding groups, I don't know how feasible this is. Yes, I understand leveling will be like the good 'ole days, where I'd wait an hour for a ass/sup Lguk spot. Suggestions? Ideally I'd convince some friends to join me here, but I doubt that's gonna happen.
Feel free to PM me.
See you in game,
(hopefully soon)

Groups aren't the issue, the level 50 game is the issue. Almost all L50 camps of worth are solo camped, with the rare exception of some kedge / efreeti camps being duo'd. Unless you're sitting on raid spawns with a handful of guilds, prepare to be really, really, really bored at 50 unless you are a significant soloer (mage, necro, ench). Not that this is a problem--the majority of the game is leveling, just know that when you make your next char, it would be nice to have some gear D=.

Leveling is super easy. Does it take time? Sure. Is it easy? Yes. The level 50 camps are not always camped by a solo guy. Sure, a handful of mobs are camped, but I have never had a problem getting into groups, just takes time. Once you hit 50 as a Rogue, or 46, get into a guild doing regular Plane of Hate clearings to get your Woven Shadow. Some pieces aren't so great, some are nice. Aside from all the people constantly complaining and rerolling mage/necro alts to farm, the server is fine for a new player.
Tip: All starting points in STA. Don't stress about gear.
This is how I leveled as a Halfling
Run to Freeport and bum a bind off someone.
1-3 - or 4 in the newbie yard.
4-10 - EC killing random stuff/orcs. Lots of people hang out there, so buffs are generally always being casted free of charge.
10-13 - Dervs in Ro or WC. Train Dual Wield at 13
13-16 - Oasis crocs/orcs. Train Double Attack at 16
16-30 - Upper Guk/High Keep
30-35 - Mistmoore, Paw, Lower Guk
35-50 - Sol B, Kedge, Lguk
Ideally, this is the set of gear you should strive to get....
Helm: Crested Helm, Woven Shadow Helm
Mask: Dented Brass Mask or Platinum Ruby Veil
Earrings: Diamondine Earrings or Black Sapphire
Chest: Brigadine Tunic or Woven Shadow BP
Arms: Mithril Vambraces
Waist: Flowing Black Silk Sash
Wrist: Granite Bracer, Hero Bracer(Some races can't use), Woven Shadow Bracers
Legs: Mithril Greaves
Gloves: Woven Shadow Gauntlets
Necklace: Runed Lava Pendant, Black Sapphire Necklace, Sapphire Platinum Necklace
Shoulders: Bloodstained Mantle, Crested Spaulders(No STR, but there aren't a whole lot of options here)
Cape: Hooded Black Cloak, Werewolf Skin Cloak
Boots: Dwarven Work Boots, Woven Shadow Boots
Rings: Djarn's Amethyst Ring, Platinum Fire Emerald Ring, Jagged Band
Ranged: Runed Bone Fork, Dragoon Dirk
Weapons: Polished Steel Dirk and a Burning Rapier(quested). Serrated Bone Dirks draw way too much aggro, don't be a fool.
Send Ponden a tell if you have any questions.

pretty excited! thanks for the tips!! Old CT is around right? that means Ravenscale! (or am I thinking of something else? hmmm - i think I'm on target)
I'm really in no rush to get level 50.... I'm in school and really have no time, but in between blocks we have somewhat of a break which is the right time to backstab some mobs, mwahahah.

Most Ravenscale isn't that great. But yes, it drops.

i'm a recent addition. i play outside peak hours so finding people that aren't either solo or being PL by someone is difficult. makes it like a single player game for me so far. hopefully his will change soon when i can play with the wife.
kunark will change this server sooo much i'm picking. that's what i'm hanging out for, even though i'm not high enough level to even go there yet.

Kunark contains content to level from 1 to cap.

I leveled two classes almost 100% purely on grouping as I hate to solo.
I havnt levled in about a month or two tho... dunno if group has changed but being how Nro and Oasis were both packed with groups going I doubt it has. I'd say more towards over crowding.
The "i cant find a group" squeaky wheels tend to be off peak players or people pushing for the allowance of boxing.

Mention about aggro made me wonder, is that rogue evade thing working? Never played one so just what I heard. A macro move of attack off, hide or something-maybe sneak?, and then attack on again. Suposedly that moved you down the aggro list.
Can you do that here for rogue?
Ponden

Yes, evade macro.
/attack off
/doability <number hide is>
/attack on

Question, since you seem to know what you're talking about - does this put the Rogue to the very bottom of the aggro list, or something else kinda funky? I do this on my alt and see the "you have momentarily ducked away from combat" message, but the mob keeps attacking me and not my friend who I'm duoing with. Is there a way to make this effect more obvious? Do I just have to move away a bit or something?

It is like a Ranger's jolt spell, it just decreases it, not drops to bottom.

I played a monk on live for a long time. I always thought of the rogue evade macro like my monk evade macro.
/attack off
/fd ability
/stand
/attack
But I would not wait till aggro to use it. I would spam it every couple seconds. This kept me low on list with minimal downtime to interrupt my DPS.
I always assumed rogues did it the same way to avoid getting up to top of list to start.

Cant you do LOIO at 16?
hedbonker

LOIO has a low level area around Cabalis - I think you can do that at 1.
azeth

Yes, evade macro.
/attack off
/doability <number hide is>
/attack on
Your evade macro should actually link to your backstab
Example backstab is Ability 1, Hide is Ability 2
/doability 1
/attack
/doability 2
/attack
The cooldown on BS and Hide are the same, if not +1/-1 second and they sync well. Also, once we can crit backstab it's pretty important you're evading as you land your double backstabs/crits.

I believe the LOIO area outside of Cabilis is akin to Crushbone (in terms of level), as there are level 1 mobs outside of Cab, and then level 4-8 mobs in FOB.

I don't need an automated Backstab/Evade key, but thanks for that tip!!!!!

Play what you love. That's my advice. I couldn't be happier with my SK.
