After some thought, I have decided I will definetly revive my Ranger. It seems alot of people have a low opinion of the Ranger class, my goal will be to change that, through exemplary skill and magnetic personality. I will be starting a druid 1st though so I can gear up my Ranger alittle, if twinking is allowed. If so, what would you guys recommend gear wise, I started EQ around Velious, so I don't really know what was considered good gear from the "classic" era.

Ebony Bladed swords from Guk are the common drop from a mob and ranger only so they are consistantly sold to vendors because nobody would play a ranger.

If you just want to level quickly to farm plat for gear, I suggest a mage instead. Gear doesn't matter much unless you want to solo, in which case you'll need >50k to solo at 1/4 the rate of a naked mage.

Almost better to wait for future expansions. Class balance and group vs. solo balance starts to even out as more expansions come out.

Classic is broken in that regard. Just more pronounced as a Ranger.

Load down your level one ranger with banded armor. Work towards Ivy Etched.

How do you get yourself killed spamming root, which then causes the mob to attack the nearest person (i.e. your tank)? If you have no tank, chances are it was already attacking you anyway, in which case proc'ing root won't matter. The only time this is not desirable is if you're not tanking, and attacking a red con or other highly magic resistant mob where you will draw aggro from the resists.

Furthermore:

The EBS is 7/24. A SSOY is 8/24.

The EBS procs at level 25. The SSOY procs at level 37.

The EBS procs a 35-pt (level 25) to 60-pt (level 50) DD root, which controls aggro. The SSOY procs a 75-pt DD stun, which draws aggro.

The EBS sells for like 50-100pp in EC. The SSOY sells for like 8K+ in EC.

You do the math. ;)

A SSOY can be used by real classes. The EBS can only be used by rangers.

I think his point was that if you're procing root a lot, you will get the aggro and die (being a ranger). I'm sure he was being somewhat facetious. Those weapons are awesome for rangers.

Its true, I couldn't possibly care less for the opinions of naysayers. YAY!!! :D Don't twink yourself too much - it keeps things exciting when your gear matches your level because then you're not just slaughtering everything... unless flying to 50 is your playing-style!

Do to the exp penalty, I suspect I will be solo alot. So in order to get certain weapons and armors that require a group, I will use my druid. I dont wanna be supertwinkie-boy but im not gonna sit in a zone lfg on my ranger just to get an ebs,pgt,ssoy, etc. I plan on enjoying my solo rangering activities between class and homework. Which expansion gives Rangers the spell panic animal?
