I just started on this server and a guy promised he would give me blood ember breastplate if I sold 100k worth of his items in EC.

I have screenshots and witnesses but I have yet to receive payment. Am I screwed or do I need to call Judge Judy? Feeling sad and confused, could use a friend.

Edit: I only told them to send him tells since I was in EC auctioning so I have no cash.

Yes, you are likely more or less out of luck. If you had been scammed out of an actual item or platinum... possibly a different story. But this is shaky at best.

Make a petition in the petition forum. Eunomia generally deals with the majority of scams, only defaulting to a GM in really complicated or widespread cases of theft. You could try to call fraud under the pnp, but the consequences and procedure will largely be left up to her. I won't give my official opinion (or stance, if I was forced to make a ruling) so as to not give leverage to either side (we'd prefer if you worked it out on your own without needing the mailed gauntlet of our Senior Guide to come crashing through your deal).

So you gave him the 100k without trading it for the Bp?

Tupakk

Why would you release the 100k without the BP in your hands?

I think people are missing the 2:57am edit in the original post where he said "I only told them to send him tells since I was in EC auctioning so I have no cash".

So basically, new guy would say "WTS a, b, c" and when people expressed interest he told them to contact the mystery man ("MM") with the BP. My guess is MM would then login his EC alt and sell the items and get the cash himself. So like Thulack said, he was used by MM so that MM could exp or do whatever while getting new guy to hawk his wares in EC. No money ever changed hands.

By itself I'm guessing this isn't enough to do much. But do you guys keep records of people/accounts complaints? I imagine if it was someone with a history of scamming this might be the proverbial straw?

I did miss that. It is a fine line scam I guess. It more so comes down to ethics and morals. If anything I would of asked for a retainer. I think you can chalk this up to a life lesson and don't do things for free or do it with the intention that you won't be compensated.

Why does someone who just started on this server already have 81 posts? That's the real scam here IMO.

Talk to the person, if that doesn't work out than name and shame + petition.

So without receiving or holding his items, you stood for hours in EC tunnel /auctioning his items for him for the promise of a BE BP?

You got played.

The old rule applies here as on RL. "If it sounds too good to be true it probably is" thingy. You got scammed plain and simple. Lesson learned I hope. Dirt Bags on here just as in RL. :o

Worse here and on the internet in general. Someone might be a cool dude in RL but be a complete ass here cause they don't care and know that nothing is going to come of them in RL for their actions. If the internet wasnt Anon 90% of the stuff on it wouldnt get posted.

Was there a roleplay element to this?

If the accused is a Halfling rogue of Bristlebane he should be praised for being so in character.

Will be disappointed if it was a follower of the Tribunal; in which case the hammer of justice should fall down heavily upon them.

looks like he was in EC advertising for the other guy. the tells were sent to the seller not him. he received no items to sell and therefore no money

Basically he wasted his time advertising for someone else that was off having fun

For most situations yes. This applies beyond just scamming. We are moving to a system that encourages all staff to log warnings as well as related violations/associations, essentially as much information as possible so that our CSR logs are as comprehensive and clear as possible. Before this only bans and suspensions were really logged - now we have much more information available for accounts where it is needed, and that will continue to grow as time goes on.

This logging was done somewhat lazily in the past, with things often missing a log entirely (especially near the beginning in the Uthgaard days) so I really tried to encourage people to log as often as possible when I joined the staff as a Guide, and when I became a GM worked with Sirken to set in stone that it should be mandatory to log as much as possible so future CSR's can clearly understand and obtain information related to individuals. This can be difficult for severe violations, such as large RMT operations and complex scams, so instead those are usually just annotated where possible for specific bans with a brief overview of the entire situation.

This helps us to better provide the community with faster resolutions as a direct result of clarity and ease of use on our end. It's worked extremely well so far, and even allows Guides to assist the Senior CSR staff in ways they never could before due to the amount of information available.

threads on these forums, even in server chat, are very rarely about what actually happened in game

most of the time they devolve into discussions on hypotheticals and etiquette

I'm going to need a /played count on the time OP spent in the tunnel as a middle man and the time Bongs has spent doing transfers for free over the years. Depending on the result I may find this comment funny. :D
