View Full Version : Lf Planes raids!
Hey friends! I was wondering do any guilds still conquer the Planes much? I am a fledgling magi currently approaching L 46 and working towards achieving my epic. Surprisingly it's been much easier here then on live years back (maybe because I've done it before and started early rather then trying to grind it out!)
Anyway, I ask because the current guild I lead is more focused towards casual players and helping new comers along in starting up here and our core isn't large enough for planes raids to be practical. Now I'm not trying to piggyback along and it only benefit myself. I'm a pretty handy little sob, I make good company and an even better chew toy for mobs. In all seriousness I'd like to start working something out, I can repay my debts one way or another!
Please if your guild routinely raids the Planes of Hate and or Air specificlly and could find a place in your hearts and raid roster I would greatly appreciate the time!

prob better off checking guild section and then hitting up an officer in game to tag along, though they usually take apps this way. I suppose you could start some sort of alliance in time between your guild and another, loot is a whole dif topic.

Welcome to the server. You might want to consider joining a raiding guild if you ever want to see your epic on this server though.

Well there is your issue.
If you are after just Apothic and PoSky gear for your mage, plenty of guilds fit that description and clear both planes weekly.
However if you are really after the Staff of Elemental Mastery: Earth and Crown of Elemental Mastery... The later you may be able to acquire with a guild that clears PoSky.
The staff however... that is one of the most sought after drops in game currently. Innoruuk regularly dies within 5~ minutes of his spawning, even if he spawns at 4AM on a weekday. So if you want that staff, I suggest looking to join a guild, Inglorious Basterds or maybe The Mystical Order will yield you your staff fastest, but it will require the largest time commitment to get to the point where those guilds reward you the staff.
Class R guilds will maybe get you a staff, but speaking as a member of a Class R guild, we have several deserving mages who are in line for the staff as it drops, it would take a decent amount of time to be awarded it.
I realize it would be difficult to get the staff/crown. Even in one of the "uber" guilds, but it dosent hurt to ask and test the waters! Its not all im after, but of course thats what brought this thread up and what im most interested in.
Its really that big of a drawl for the elites still though? The servers been around so long i figured most of the hard cores would long have gotten what they needed, that's sad to hear. :(
I certainly don't have the time i had when i was a teenager for the elite raiding guilds..guess ill just have to log into Live and play with the 3.0 when i want to feel special.

Don't give into live!! You can feel special here too! :)

You can get 95% of your mage epic in most any guild in a few months if you're motivated to camp and set up groups for Phinny/Neh Ashiir etc.
That staff though... Will be near impossible to get unless you become a valued member of a guild that kills Innoruuk.
Even come Velious when that is patched in, the staff is moved to a mini boss, and I expect that to be equally camped.
The last Staff MQ I heard about getting sold was sold for something like 750k?
That pet absolutely crushed everything else in tank ability, DPS, DS, etc. It allows much easier soloing from 50-60, and much more options for soloing money camps or farming things.
You chose one of the most desired and rare epic'd in game. Necromancer is probably the only more rare epic, but it blows and isn't nearly as desired as the mage epic.

As others have echo'd
Check out the raid guild forum - most any guild (that raids) will be able to get you some apothic/sky items. For the epic.. you're in for the long haul.

Can just grind to 60 and collect gear while you wait for PoHate to be revamped; when that happens any guild can get an earth staff with relative ease.

Except no.
Magi is a 3 day respawn with a place holder and the staff doesn't drop every time. Not a DTing Inny, but you can bet your pixels that it will be killed immediately upon spawning.
I just hope it doesn't turn into a cash camp where the Blitzkraggs of the world poopsock it and sell MQs.

Hate trash (for Apothic gear) is very easily done in one group. The only problem is the break in, which will probably require a few groups.
Epic, yeah good luck. 7 day respawn that's insta-killed....just good luck.
Velious adds additional raid targets, rendering others less desirable. That being said, there's just no way to gauge what will happen if/when Velious launches, as far as the raid scene is concerned. C guilds will obviously focus on getting to ST, but will Inny/CT/etc be up very often, nobody really knows.

some epics on p99 are still exactly that, epic! :)

I thought the Earth staff was going to drop off of revenants (presumably fairly rarely)? Alla's page seems to indicate that Magi P'tasa is an ordinary spawn with a PH - so more like the Pained Soul than say Dracoliche?

Is it really THAT good though? I would say the epic pet is about the same as a well geared Warrior/Monk now, and its going to be a lot worse when they upgrade to Velious gear. I don't think it does more damage than the focused Water pet (if the tank is smart about positioning, and many are not) and because of the long cooldown it isn't really chainable - if I wanted to make a solo mage, I would try and get the Robe of Burning Rage and the Lava Diamond staff from VP.
Granted, its absolutely fantastic (and not all that classic) when paired with a Donal's BP, but if you have a friend with that disgustingly overpowered item you can make do quite well with the focused Air pet.

The staff can drop off male revenents after the revamp as well. It's a really rare drop even off of the Magi. Read some of the posts about how long it took people camping him to get one to drop.
There are dozens of Mages who have put in thousands of hours in this game and hundreds of hours into raiding with their guild and have had zero chances at the staff so don't get your hopes up until after the revamp. Even then it's a major long shot.
Your best shot is to farm seafuries for 500 hours and then buy the MQ (and hope it drops to 500k by then).

My understanding of the Staff drop was that revenants started dropping it in Hate B. Beyond the scope of this server. I feel like I did research on this when I thought the same thing you did and I found it was only dropped by Magi.
During Velious only Magi dropped it. And Magi is a long respawn with PHers and variance.
The pet makes a mage with one vastly superior to a mage without one. No other amount of gear can make up for this fact. Even FT2-3. (since we won't have other foci on this server).

So he is only going to add say 1 staff every 2 weeks or something? I suppose that still triples the drop rate.
The pet makes a mage with one vastly superior to a mage without one.
Is this really true though?
On raids or in groups, a focused max-level water pet should do similar damage (although a group will definitely miss the stun).
Solo the mage can only have 1-2 epic pets before returning to earth/focused air.
The only time the epic pet really seems amazing is in a duo with a cleric, preferably a BP cleric.
Anyway, there is no denying it is an excellent item, but it seems to me more like the difference between a warrior in cobalt and one in indicolite: definitely nice, but not a game-changing item like a Donal's BP. I could be wrong though.

The pet is 800 more HP than earth, 1500 more than water.
Has a DS of 50 if I remember right? Fire pet only has like 39-40?
Max hit of 81 compared to 70 on greater vocarates.
Procs and Stun damages are greater than the water and air pets procs.
The only thing it doesn't have is backstab and its higher level, higher base damage, higher spell damage, self DS and better survivability make it superior in every capacity.
In any solo situation of value you'd have pet out, epic with charge and spell ready to summon another orb. Which should be 3 if you can micro your pet and such. Atleast in the ideal situation.
I'd love to see a 52 Mage on this server with one and have it tank Naggy. I'm pretty sure that + BP cleric would easily duo him. After a few changes on live I was able to solo Naggy with the pet due to the upgraded level 52 heal and stacking FT.

It's not like mages in "elite" guilds need their epic any less than casuals. This server has a high turn over rate, so just about every guild is always recruiting players of all classes. Of course the line for an item like the earth staff is much shorter in TMO or IB, but you're still gonna have to put in the raid time if you want the best gear regardless of what guild you join. And yes you need a guild for a high priority target like Innoruuk.
