View Full Version : question regarding server purity (hacking etc)

I wanted to ask a quick question if I may, before I got round to it I wanted to add some context to why I am asking.
I am seeing and hearing from friends that a lot of people joining the server or logging on are being handed literally 100's of PP.
Understanding the awesome mission of project 99 this confuses me, I was given the impression the server was about a year old.
Having played EQ1 from launch I can testify that people didnt have 100's of plat to throw around willy nilly in game as it was damn hard working getting it in the first place.
If this is as it seems a pure classic EQ which is awesome and seems really friendly it confuses me how people are able to afford to do things like hand 100 plat to my friend who just joined (someone he doesnt know at all) and I see other tales of this kind on the forum.
Either to me this indicates that a level of hacking is going on or people are being given large amounts by friends with the ability to auto generate the items, money needed in a GM capacity.
I really do hope neither is true but cant see otherwise how the economy is in such a mess after a year that its so easy to get money.
Thanks for any replys and just to clarify before people start replying I am not having a go just trying as a classic launch player to understand what is going on and how its happening.

No you did not get trolled, I was asking a question which I took time to make sure wasnt coming across as agressive or look like I was having a dig at people who put a lot of effort into a great server.
I am asking a question to understand something, you didnt get trolled sir but you are acting like one.

It's not hard to make 100p. It's not hard to make 1k plat. People aren't as clueless in regards to making money and farming as they were back in live. Hence, it's very easy for someone now to know demand of an item. OR the best spot to farm pure plat.

Friend went to frenzy camp, got an FBSS on the first PH. Sold it for 18k. He gave a couple newbies 100p here and there :)
My personal best is 10k in 3 hours. That's way out of my norm, but if I make 400p in an hour when I go to farm it's certainly a bad hour. A lot of us play too much, you get a lot of dedicated types on a 10-year old game, so I farm enough to stay afloat with plenty of cushion.
So that's how we're happy to hand out 100p here and there to someone in need. I certainly don't give money to beggars, but if I see a nekkid lv. 10 monk, dude needs an EBM.
That being said, I believe there have been a couple item dupe bugs that have done some damage to the economy :( More it's the fact that almost every seafury gets killed asap, and guards also used to be bonkers money, so there's an influx of pure pp from these types of things.

huh I guess those are both good points, It could simply be that the skillsets we all have are a lot better than how we all played in the old days.
I remember loosing a full set of leather to a /consent con back at launch and the whole server was outraged :D
crazy considering how low value that is.
shame about that dupe thing noleafclover.
one good thing though the gamers seem nice guys

lol, ok, this server is almost a year old. With time comes market saturation, population change, and platinum inflation. Many of the people here are dedicated hardcore or casual players, but dedicated nonetheless. When you reach the max level in EQ you learn how easy it is to come upon money and items.

The big difference between now and then is now people know exactly how to play this game, where to go to do it, how to do it in the most efficient manner possible. I made 30k leveling my druid to 50, and I didn't even really play much EQ back in the day.
Tseng has it right. When EQ went live the first year none of us knew anything beforehand. Alla and site like it didn't exist. Mobs location and drops were unknown for the most part as purposeful changes were made from the beta-to-live for just such reasons. If someone is coming here for 'ph4T l3wtz' have they ever missed the point...
I have 10k on my 46 druid and never tried hard to make plat

haha so true, I love that its hard work.
When I joined the other day and got killed by a scarab loosing all my gear to my corpse I almost squueed with delight at the lack of handholding.
I remember alla yeah, tseng such a help when it got going.
I was more of a everlore user at the time, when that folded a lot of us landed on a new site slackers haven to stay in touch.
We all just heard about this project from a user on there and are pretty over the moon about the whole thing.
