View Full Version : Wasn't Cazel a rare spawn??

Not quite ready to post this in bugs - wanted to see what others remembered first.

I hunted in Oasis for many levels (and years!) back in the day, and saw SG's quite a lot, but only ever saw Cazel once. Here I see Cazel a good half of the times that I *just pass through* Oasis. He seems almost to be a permanent fixture here for some reason. I searched the forums, but didn't see this mentioned elsewhere.

So am I mis-remembering this, or is Cazel just super-common here (relative to classic where he was super-rare)?

i'm thinking people just kill sand giants a lot more often than on live

Cazel most likely shares spawn tables with SG's, and since SGs are killed quite a bit, there's a higher chance of him spawning. Just a guess

Speaking of Oasis, wasn't Lockjaw more common on live? I get Cazel being more common with higher level people passing through more often and killing SG's, but the same if not more people are killing crocs but I don't see any more Lockjaws.

Lockjaw was pretty rare on live.

But it feels ultra rare here.

His PH is sometimes a croc that swims around in the water. On live, Oasis was jam packed with 40 people in their teens and croc life expectancy was very low. As soon as Lockjaw popped the druids and rangers in your group would track him down and 2-3 groups would converge on him.

Here no one bothers to fish the camains out of the water, rangers don't exist, and the druids are too busy charm soloing to bother.

Speaking of Cazel, I remember that NPC making me think of Saddam Hussein.

The rare one is the one who drops the FR hat in oasis

Good post and very true. :D

Hatar i think. If i recall, he also drops a weapon that is really good for the level in which you can obtain it.

Sandgiant Husam, Hatar, Cazel all named SGs. Cazel is timer based :3 Other 2 are PH.

As far as LJ here is concerned, he's not really difficult to spawn, his PH isn't perma killed like it was in classic. That sonofabitch was a scourge for the first week or two on p99 :P

arabs and persians still come from the desert and wear turbans in everquest but erudites are smart and live on an island peacefully

i think cazel just stays up when triggered since no one solo sg's wants to kill him and the lowbies cant.. it does feel like he is always up. sell the quest piece

he isnt killed because he is a pain in the ass. he regenerates a stupid amount of HP per tick. He has about 10k HP and regenerates 350 per tick according to wiki (http://wiki.project1999.com/Cazel).

That means someone needs to do 70 damage per second just to hold his regen.

people killing SGs can't do that.

Lockjaw was not rare back during original, when people hunted a hella lot there, even during Kunark.

Yup, here comes another lockjaw spawn, quick run to the dock and hope a higher level is waiting for the boat!
