I don't get ads on youtube. I didn't even realize they had ads until over a year into them having them because I use https://adblockplus.org
Install plug in update filters and never see another video ad on youtube again.

Adblock Edge is a great alternative to Adblock plus. Adblock plus allows ads that are willing to pay Adblock to be on an "acceptable ads" list. Adblock Edge blocks EVERYTHING.

Considering you can apply any filter you want I don't accept this claim. Just download 3rd party lists which everyone should be doing. These databases are not maintained by adblock plus. You can manually block anything you want anyways.:D

iv been using ABP for a week now (since blk's suggestion) and its great! thanks. It is like night and day difference. I don't see very many options such as loading custom lists though.
Also I notice a lot of sites are ABP-aware (even p1999) and some will even do shit to make you disable ABP, like block the video. Would alternative programs work in those cases? Ones less used where sites won't be coded to battle it?

ad blockers are essential if you want to stream stuff without dealing with annoying popups that a lot of those streaming websites have

Apply the Ad-blocker plug in and set the preferences to show the ABP icon on your task bar in browser. Then click the arrow next to it and go to Filter preferences. You can select additional filter lists. You can even add to this list by searching online for additional libraries and putting them in the right folder.
As far as allowing sites that block ABP you can either choose to allow that page only or open block-able items list and un-select some of the blocked filters. After enough times doing this you will start to learn what to disable and what not to. Also some sites you can block the scripts that block you for using ABP. There is a filter to block the blockers (Titled Ad-Block Aware list or something similar). You can also manually block some of these blockers.
ABP was much better years ago when sites didn't know how to deal with it or cared about it. But with so many people using it they are starting to code in protections against such blockers. HTML4 is going to make blocking these ads harder. It has now become a cat and mouse game with ABP and other services staying ahead for the most part.
If you want to block more things including these ABP detector scripts you can use plug ins such as NOSCRIPT. Problem with NOSCRIPT is that it blocks EVERYTHING, even things you want to work. So it takes A-lot of user modifications to get it to work with the sites you want to use. But it is probably the best tool on the internet for preventing ads/hacks/malware. With a properly configured NOSCRIPT + ABP you can go to the darkest corners of the internet without much fear (Think Warez sites).:D
