Does anyone have any experience with it on this server? I dont have the gear/items to test it out really, but was curious how it works on this server?

Does it ever become reliable? Is random 10-20 sec charm breaks the norm, or can pets usually be held for long periods?

More CHA the better right? Whats the magic number to really start getting charm to stick reliably?

Thanks for any feedback!

There are a ton of threads about this. I'll give you the short version.

At low levels charm is highly unreliable. Once you have allure, charm is failry reliable when you have over 200 charisma and tash before you charm.

Leveling up with charm... not sure how that would work out. People have complained alot about low level charms.

Basically, If you twink like hella mad, you can play a charm chanter all the way to 50 easy. If you dont charm, stick to groups.

You can solo 35-50 in live side Lower Guk with your pet no problem, if you don't fancy charming :) And it's relatively fast too!

I think the enchanter pet is underrated. The dirt cheap mana cost is a factor.

Agreed. It hits pretty hard, TBH...just has low hp. Doesn't matter a ton when the chanter can slow/stun...

from what I can remember on pre-kunark live, charm is unreliable. It gets a bit better from there on up. I remember charm-kite soloing alot of spectres in/all over oasis in my 30s, but that was 10 years ago so heck if I can remember which spells I was using to do it.

Oh, the enchanter pet is much better than it's given credit for. 2 fine steel daggers (or even better, gnoll hide lariats) and a few enchanter spells and it's a killing machine. You can solo quite well with it, too. It's just more problematic because you have to adjust your play to it's UI rather than vice-versa (I.E. kill what it's hitting, CC what it's not)

It's like your typical mindless tank :D

I used it quite a bit while leveling up!

I thought of charming willowisps on my twinked out enchanter, because they're invincible to most other mobs, but then I realized that if charm broke, BOTH mobs would come after me, no? How do I prevent this? Do I seriously have to root every mob just in case?

yeah, pretty much. Except it hits harder.

You root the mob your pet is fighting.
Use your stuns for recharming your pets.
Rooting the pet before you charm/recharm is a bad idea.

Also if you slowed the mob your killing your odds of being interrupted when they come after you are reduced.

That's actually why it's easier to charm later, IMO, because you have better spells to deal with recharm. I.E. two useable PBAE stuns (and even AE mez).

The fun part is that sometimes you actually WANT to break charm. That's the trick I figured out while charm kiting spectres so long ago. Sometimes your pet is going to lose. When that happens, root what it's hitting, break charm just before it dies.. Then CC them both, and either nuke your old pet dead or swap charm to what your pet was originally getting killed by and let it kill your former pet. This works well with spectres because they are slow...or at least they were on live, not sure here since Im only like level 12 and havent tried it.
