I am having to re-install my OS after my hard drive went kaplooy. To say I am computer illiterate would be mild.

While waiting the 60 min I decided to read the technical section. I think I will now need an antidepressant. Oh my god all the problems!!

As an xps Dell laptop user am I ever going to be able to enjoy the server, or will I be inlay and crash hell? Please answer as now I am waiting on my 28 updates for my system to download and install

I have had no problems running the server at all. I think a fairly large percentage of those are user error, just make sure you follow the install guide on the home page, and you should be fine. If you do encounter any problems 90% of the time it will be something easily fixed by doing a search for your problem in the technical problems forum.

I haven't had many problems on either my desktop or my Gateway laptop. About the only thing I've really had to do is lower my FPS from 100 down to 60. As long as you can read and follow the setup guide exactly, you should be good.

The vast majority of the players on our server have no issues. Frankly, those that do have issues (more often than not):

Failed to follow every step of the Project 1999 setup guide.
Did not use the EverQuest Titanium client as instructed.
Believe something isn't working as intended, because they don't realize the functionality they're looking at is 100% classic.
etc.

Now I can't get the freaking hard discs to load. Went through all five and went well, then it asks for disc 1 again and THEN I get these errors!

When tried to start it again the darn things wouldn't even run

I had that problem too. So, I copied it to my desktop, changed it there, then over wrote the old one.

I have had no problems because I read and followed the instructions in the setup guide. I had some questions too, but then I read the FAQ. Questions answered. It's magical.

Windows 7 made the setup a pain for me in similar ways. Trust me, it's not the server.

When i installed the game/followed the setup guide on an XP machine, it worked flawlessly the first time and i've had no further problems.

You had issues with the install on Windows 7 because you probably attempted to install EverQuest to C:\Program Files, which features numerous security protections that partially or fully prevent many of the steps in the setup guide from working correctly. Install EverQuest to a new directory on C:\ in Vista and 7, and you will not experience any further issues.

Thanks!

Yeah, figured that out after an hour or two of annoyance.

Ditto.

Been here for about a week, EQhost.txt (win7) and one time i crashed to desktop (EQ closed) were my only issues, otherwise this server has been a technical dream, much better then i remember on live.
