Hey everybody, I was just curious if any guilds or people ever hold public PoF/PoH or even Naggy/Vox raids on this server?
While I do remember in live how they often would end up being a gigantic clusterfuck I still had fun going on them. Also, my main on this server just hit 50 and now I have a desire to get some sweet gear but my guild (which I don't plan on leaving) is nowhere near being ready to do a full on raid yet.
So if anybody has any advice for me or knows of any open PoF/PoH raids let me know please. And if they don't happen at all here then I hope the release of Kunark w/ its increased level cap and slew of new targets will open up the opportunity for people not in high end guilds to take a crack at raiding.

I don't think anyone here would do that. The raiding scene is far too competitive, and there's way too little content for the raid guilds themselves. You have like five or more guilds basically competing over Hate, Fear, Air and the two dragons. It's possible that people will/do run pick-up raids for plane trash that drops the armor sets, but anything named and worthwhile is pretty much locked down.

Yeah, I could see this as a possibility later after Kunark has been out for a while, maybe...

Lmao good luck on an open raid
I remember Xegony doing open raids when raiding just started back in the day. They ere fun. I also remember all the troubles associated with them. On here? I doubt it.

Everyone here prolly knows that the cons of open raids far out weigh the pros.

Could be fun provided you start small. You really don't want to start with something like one of the dragons. As long as you lay down the rules and have an ounce of organisational skills it should be fine.

Also, I recommend making them a regularly scheduled time that people can come to expect. Take what RKromwell said as well-- don't aim for the big guns. Start small and work small.
Casual players will be drawn in by the lure of upgraded equipment that they wouldn't get otherwise.

i use to see some people advertising hate raids and any level 46+'s could join....this was like a month or two ago when i came back from my break.
but yeah i remember watching vox chase down noobs in perma, zone in area was literally a graveyard with 50 or 60 corpses, people just spawn rushing her at ZL because all the high levels were doing other shit....it was pretty damn hilarious, lasted 30minutes until some guild decided to come in and kill her..

Haha I remember well in the old days on SolRo they (including me) tried to raid Tunare with around 130 ppl.
All in all it was not a success but I had a lot of fun.

The only reason some of those PuG Nag/Vox raids even worked (most were guaranteed xp loss and wasted time) is because the players had the benefit of easily obtained Kunark/Velious gear.
I wouldn't touch a pug Nag/Vox raid on this server, yet.

Problem is the boss mobs are usually down within 30 minutes of popping (save for Phinny, but is he really a boss?), so open raids will never see anything save for maybe PoH/Fear armor mobs until Kunark is well released.

He's a boss if you go at him with a typical raid set up of a melee tank + clerics and dps. However bring a couple mages and you have yourself a deceased fish.

Open raids here would be nothing like open raids on live. The people who play here are almost exclusively veterans of these raids, and there are very few actual newbs.
This server also has WAY more old school raid leaders playing than any normal server on live ever had. Its just not the same environment at all...an open raid for fear/hate trash would likely be as successful as most other guild raids.

I'm sure an open raid could be done on the lesser of the raid "bosses" (aka Phinny, Maestro, etc.) but I could just be totally underestimating the chaos that would ensue.
edit:

This is complete and utter nonsense. There are so many noobs on this server, even at level 46+, who just can't play for shit and have no fucking clue how to play their class, and will never get better. I still group with people on my main who don't know how to assist or how to /pet back off. Just because you played classic EQ, or even raided in classic EQ, doesn't mean you're any good.
I'm not trying to be hostile towards you or anything, but you have to be very naive to actually think what you just wrote.

Pick up xp-groups are scary enough, this is horrifying.

We had fairly successful open raids on Mithaniel Marr, but I don't recall when they started. It was organized by a druid named Leo - Raids by Leo was the name (RBL). I think that later he started a guild and continued his tradition.
It was fun for off nights, or when I was too bombed to be raiding with my real guild(s).
Good times.

How is the raiding handled on this server?
Is there 1 guuild clearing everything asap, multiple guilds fighting over everything or multiple guilds sharing everything?

It appears one is clearly ahead and most fight over mobs. I saw three jump at Cazic Thule, working to clear fear. In the end, one took him while one left all-together. The other couldn't drop him.

when the server is in Kunark or Velious, you should be able to do pick up raids. If your on a normal server and have 0 idea how to raid. Your more then likely going to whipe.
But on this server with the majority already having raided before, it might not be so bad. And if it is, im gonna FD for everything I got....

Isn't the whole point of raids uber loot? The guilds are competetive cause they want to monopolize that loot. Meaning they don't want to share it. Otherwise they'd lose their "uber gear" status and the whole point of their existence as a "Raid guild."

I never raided for loot... I raided to say I did it in EQ and in any games after. The issue is most kiddies are after "uber loot" and ruin all the games.

Beta raids were the shit. I had a blast organizing most of those and going at it. It was even more hilarious because I was terrible at boxing.

Agreed. I can't handle pick up groups and pretty much refuse to take part in pickup groups. For the most part I refuse people who ask to duo with me at solo spots as well. Not because I am a dick, but because I don't feel like eating a death based purely on someone's stupidity.

I personally admit I like raid loot, I would never raid Tunare weekly with 8 hour clears just to say "I was there...I did it...again". Whats the incentive?
Personally I found the guys saying "I did it for the guild" usually the most self serving people.
I know a guy even on this server that spent over 50 hours farming stuff for his guild , was a first day member but had to roll against trial members for loot and eventually ignored and even forgotten.
The only reason I know is I kept asking about guilds on the server and his guild experience.

The purpose of loot is to progress to the next raid .. that is it. You are forced to repeatedly raid "tunare" so you can beat the next baddie... its called a time sink and without it there would never be enough content.

Korrowan, "The purpose of loot is to progress to the next raid" is not absolutely true. To some like me loot is a trophy, of an event a memory. I'm not thinking ahead to the next raid at all, to me I'm living in the moment.

That is the difference between ideologies. I will stand by what I said and that is the premise I play the game with.

I think it's funny that people who play the game for a specific reason (i.e. to have fun, to get loot, to "have the best loot,") tend to think anyone else who plays for a different reason is "ruining the game."
The game serves any number of playstyles, and just because everyone doesn't "just play for fun" (if fun could be objectively defined) doesn't make them degenerates or something.
Live and let live.

Just to put this thread back on topic:
As an unguilded 50 I would be down for public raids. Perhaps we should just make a list of people interested, and if there are enough, give it a try?

Despite what I said earlier, I'd participate in an open raid too (even though I'm guilded). I'll just run away if shit hits the fan.
Someone needs to organize it though.

Good idea. I was thinking about leading public trash clears. I'll put up a new thread, since this one was more questions and people discussing how it would work here (as an aside, DOOM used to do 'em).
If you're interested, PM me and I'll compile a list. Give me your class and preferred times; and whether you'd want to be on the list to lead raids if necessary. If you want/would be willing to lead, I'd prefer you have recent experience with plane of fear and hate (i.e. have done it a good bit on this server).
I'm not going to enforce this, but I'd appreciate if every time you received a loot in your class's plane you attended a raid in the other one (i.e. if my mage gets a drop in hate I come for a fear raid).

I dont care what anyone says, on the OG server Eci public raids ruled.
Public downed Vox first, and public was 2nd or 3rd to Plane of Time. Public is still going strong on whatever server Eci merged with I hear. Public used to farm PoFear and PoHate 24/7 for a week or so straight. Public did 3 day PoSky raids. I mean it was insane and amazing and I know it can be done. All of this was accomplished with no vent or teamspeak.
EDIT: I want to add that all this was done when the content was current. I was at the first vox kill on eci server, and I was only level 39 or something. No joke. The people and person who organized these public raids were very professional and the community was extremely tight knit. We all posted on the message boards and it just worked.
