I left the game before they came out.

Pointless.
They're a top end dps class with no magic, like rogues.
They use chain armor, like rogues.
They have a cooldown dps ability called Frenzy, like rogues (backstab).
They're a rogue that uses 2h weapons instead of daggers. Last I remember they were top melee dps and rogues were getting pissed. But this is the problem with such a redundant class, if rogues started to outdps them, then the berserkers are inevitably going to be pissed. And so on.

They're also semi-tanks. A bit like monks but, I think, with better aggro abilities. Really, it's like a monk/rogue hybrid without FD. The class always seemed to be designed at random and for no other reason than to attract players to a class with a cool-sounding name.

They were made only because of the bad weapon dynamics in EQ - 2 handed weapons were very rarely used so their solution was to just design a class that can only use 2h.
They could have easily tied the Berserker class into Warrior if they really wanted, say there's an infinite use disc that puts you into "Berserker" mode and drops your tanking by a ton but increases your dps to berserker level, and makes Taunt become Frenzy while under the disc. Frenzy and Volley inherently need 2handers to function well so you really wouldn't even need the 2h requirement.

The unique ability of berserkers was a non-magic snare. Otherwise, they're basically what's already been said, a rogue who uses two handers. I'm not sure why they're being compared to monks, they're not monk-like at all to me.

I guess because they can tank slightly better than rogues, which doesn't fucking matter anyways since warriors can barely even tank level appropriate stuff on live anymore.

Frenzy/Volley aren't positional. And I'm not sure about being a better tank than a monk. Truth is, it doesn't matter anymore. If you're not a tank and you get aggro nowadays on live you're getting completely and ruthlessly raped.
Edit: to make things worse, rogues were the defacto "throwing weapon specialized" class, until berserkers and their throwing axes. Although that's mostly just humorous as neither class really gives a shit about throwing weapons.

Don't they get crits for throwing axes like a ranger does for the bow?

idk how they are now but i played one for along time, they have a shit ton of AA discs and regular discs ie amazing spike dps. They have a non magic stun,snare,jolt,volley(4 instant ranged attacks). Jolt(useless)/volley and stun/snare are on shared timers. They also have an ability frenzy that does 1-3 attacks.
There aura increases the crit hit dmg (55 does 10%, the higher one adds 30%). There biggest downfall is that from all the multiple swings with a 2h weapon and no way to lessen hate they get aggro quick, and some of their AA discs drain alot hp so bad combo.
with the abilities i had and some of the gear i could tank lesser things np, rogues were overall better dps on prolonged fights, short fights we were better

Yeah. They also get throwing-based AA/discs. One disc line allows them to summon their own throwing axes.
