I found myself again in Kelethin. At first I thought these people were mad, but I see now the message these Elves intend for their young citizens and warriors: between life and death, there is but a fine line...

A local fisher informed me the Sea King had departed for Faydwer a mere hour before my arrival at the docks. She also told me to watch my back, since a Barbarian was about that had stolen something from her. Clouds rolled in as evening became night. I placed a worm on my fishing hook...

I know what you're going through. I too once fell under the spell of opium. It was 1979. I was travelling the Yangtzee in search of a Mongolian horsehair vest. I had got to the market after sundown, all of the clothing traders had gone, but a different sort of trader still lurked about. "Just a taste," he said. That was all it took.

Feanol

The scent of rotting flesh filled my nostrils. The others of my pack tore viciously at the exposed bones and skin of our fallen prey. Lupine howls echoed through the halls, rivaled only by the moans of countless undead...

Wind tore at the the walls of the large hut. These Northern Men sleep like savages with no door to keep out a draft. It took several checks to find a bed, most rooms containing nothing more than an animal's hide draped on the cold floor. A hardy folk indeed...

Feanol
01-18-2015, 02:30 AM
I was weary from my journey from the Northern mountains, laden with the trinkets and weapons of slain foes. Such things seem to fetch a good price in the Human city. The grass below my feet felt soft and welcoming, unlike the volcanic ash that still clung to my pant-legs. The setting Star was so striking I had to sit and observe it's recession...

Feanol
01-22-2015, 09:28 PM
My cloak did little to keep me dry in the pelting rain. Soaked to the skin, I came across a small encampment of Humans making their stead by a river. Just a few buildings in all, but each one had exactly what I coveted: A roof.

The sheer cliffs ended. I came to the base of the serpentine causeway, glad to be rid of the unnerving specter of a long fall to death. The pass through the mountains is dangerous to the inattentive, but the coming dark portrayed new threats. Creatures that wait until it's just dark enough...

You roam Norrath, the lowliest of places and wait for moments when all the pixels conspire to make a man love a place that only exists in the mind.

But how many men love things that only exist in their mind? Perhaps all,

It matters not, the beauty is inherent and you do some other man justice by noticing what care he took with this world.

Even this, project 1999 is a poem to a Norrath that was created imperfect, and thus perfect. This is the true draw.

Feanol

The Djinn stood guard as I took rest. The treeline seemed to go on forever. Enormous hills would excite the thought that my journey was over and the fields near Qeynos lay just over the next crest. Rather than civilization, a small stone ring with a chiseled focus stood at the bottom of yet another valley.

Erud had made this crossing. Disgusted with the barbarity and petty rivalry of his fellows, he gathered those possessed with greater insight and higher knowledge. He took them onto the sea, leaving behind the squabbles of other men. As the breeze shook the white sail, I wondered what he must have felt upon making first sight of Odus...

The smell was awful. A sulfurous haze filled the air of the old mineshaft that had been left to the Goblins. I couldn't decide which was worse, the scent of scarred deep earth or the exposed innards of the creatures we left split open.

Feanol
02-23-2015, 05:28 AM
I couldn't believe I had made the climb. The surface of the ancient carving was covered in ice. I stepped carefully onto the outstretched arm, my paws padding softly on the Fresh snow. The view was incredible. I kept an eye out for my foe...

The giant collapsed, bereft of it's life. A cloud of snow filled the air as the impact of it's weight hit the ground. In the nearby caverns an unearthly screech could be faintly heard; the cry of an ancient Wurm. The Queen sensed the felling of her attendant, and even our hardy grey fur did not preserve us from the chill upon hearing that voice...

The man was kind enough to lend me a stack of hay. He kept an eye on me though I could not blame him. I pulled off my boots and laid my mail to the side, glad to feel light and natural again. Outside this sanctuary lay a world of fear and danger.... but the next few hours were mine alone.

A channel into the cavern poured sunlight from above. The design included a base that hung just below the portal, showering the light to the sides. A small fort sat atop a massive rock to our right. I wondered what kind of people built such a city, it seemed too elegant and intricate for simple human minds...

A passerby informed us the Sea King had disembarked shortly before our arrival. The Halfling and myself were not interested in passage however, only the catching of fish. A cask full of Ale and a bucket of worms set the scene for laughter and stories. Even a Troll awaiting the boat could not help but join in and try his luck with the water.

He had just passed the barn, heading up the hillside. I glanced over my shoulder from behind the tree, careful to make my presence unknown. When I first spotted it beached on the sand from afar I nearly turned back. My curiosity got the better of me and I approached the massive carcass. I know not what it fed upon to become so large, but the rows of jagged teeth and gaping maw must have made nearly everything that swims into prey.

I left the tunnel and was greeted with a strange sight. A small beach lay before me, sand already working it's way into my boots. Men lived in a single hut built upon stilts over the strange saltwater pool. My own guess is a falling star had wrought this, or perhaps an eruption from the soil of Norrath...

It's your writing, Feanol! Refreshing art. You seem to have a generous helping of the poet's gift, as it's been said. Thanks for your creativity!

Favorite of mine so far is the latest wizard spire. Looks immense, high-fantasy, and love how you reference the Combine Empire. Looks like that shot could have been a promo screenshot. Second favorite is the latest one with the Erudite Necromancer, mostly because you identified him as a Cazic Thule cultist. For whatever reason the fact that Paineel Erudites are all worshipping Cazic Thule is especially cool to me. Pretty badass god to worship, and really changes the Erudite persona.

I took in the evening air. I had not drawn breath that did not reek of corpse for many days. The movements of the Sun and Moon had no meaning inside the ancient Iksar tower; I could not say how long I had stayed. I was glad to be traveling again.

Feanol

You could still feel the heat emanating from the body. Getting close enough to swing a blade seared the flesh. The Iksar did not seem to mind with its hardened scales. It crowed over the corpse in animal blood lust.

As of this posting, 'A Day on Red' has over 15,000 views

I play Everquest on Ubuntu Linux using a Vivitek Projector as my "monitor". What most people are used to seeing displayed on a 19"-24" desktop screen is instead a floor-to-ceiling projection on my living room wall.

This allows one to bask in the pixels and reach critical immersion levels.

I've chosen a screenie of me and my friends in Oasis of Marr for this post because without your positive replies, gracious compliments, and the community around this thread I would have stopped posting long ago.

The Goblins were not unfriendly if you relaxed and made conversation. Quite a few of them spoke the Common Tongue, which I was surprised to hear. They certainly knew how to drink and we spent long hours discussing the length of Rat Tails...

The infighting between Iksar clans was legendary for it's brutality and scope. I did not have all the details, only what I had learned from ancient texts and oral recounts. At times the entire continent was stained in the blood of war. These fallen monuments lay like bones whispering a violent past.

Every now and then I lay in the grass. Normally I scan the trees, the cliffs, the waterline... any movement can signal a life and death battle. The monsters roaming the wilderness are nothing compared the aimless bloodlust of other travelers. Sometimes I get away with ten or twenty minutes of calm breeze across my face...

My back was wet. I think I had fallen over again. I stared up at the trees spinning above me and I could feel I was about to vomit. It gets dark. Underneath the canopy in these rent and smoldering woodlands the night falls early and falls deep. It's within my blood to maintain a clear sight in these cases, but I've heard of traveling Humans becoming lost and disoriented. Prey for the Wurms that stalk the trees, so I do what I can to thin their numbers.

Many works of stone and wood are abandoned to the wastes of time in the Timorus Deep. The people from the cities make use of sailing boats that cross these waters but stray not from the docks. There are many secret places, little alcoves, quiet homesteads... Above and below the waves are things few have seen and fewer understand.

I have always felt an affinity for the rolling dunes of Ro. It's my understanding that beneath the shifting sands lie ruins of the greatest Elvish society to have lived on Antonica. Its still possible to see some of their masoncraft protruding from the ground. It was a forest of particular beauty with abundant life. Today there is nothing but the wastes wrought by divine wrath...

I had finally reached my limits. The Druids taught me all they could. I could not imagine how my strength might go beyond what I possessed already. This place again. The Orge must have been oblivious to how close he was to the edge. I don't think anyone could glance behind them and remain in place after failing to see a bottom in the sky. I've studied in the Libraries of Ak'Anon and Erudin and I considered myself a learned man, yet what I thought I knew about the properties of ether offered me no answers. A suspect meeting indeed. The Troll unconsciously licked his lips yet kept himself restrained. It seems that neither hunger nor hatred carries greater weight than business. The Halfling handed over the items being bargained, careful to maintain an arms reach from the enormous creature. It is not every day such a conference doesn't end in death or consumption.

Months of study in the great libraries of Erudin on Odus, the Academy of Arcane Science, and Mechana-Magica on Faydwer has brought me to this. The canyon winds endlessly into the hills, hewn by some ancient people lost to time. Mosaics carved into the granite walls depict the visages of old kings. Small towers built by modern cultures keep watch along the precarious ridge, home now to bandits preying on travelers. I thought of you when I was running through Beholder's Maze to check out the zone and update some wiki stuff some weeks ago. I was at that unique rock structure and looked straight up and it was dusk or something. The gorge walls were zig zagging and putting a nice juxtaposition to the sky, then the moon slowly came into view. I waited until it eventually was perfectly positioned between the gorge cliffs and above the strange monument.

It was one of the few times on P99 I just was in awe of the beauty in such an old relic of a game. Also made me wonder if that monument was somehow connected to Luclin as the moon passed perfectly over it.

I hope I took a screenshot, not sure though.

i always wondered how raids would work. what's stopping some others from just smashing you and taking VS? nothing right? madness.

When risk of this is high you create a PVP group to stand guard. There are successful raids every day. Sometimes it’s more fun when the raid isn’t as successful as planned but there is large scale PVP.

It's pretend PvP so they can soak up the sweet XP bonus and then raid holding hands all day / night long!

/ooc Thank you for the support folks. It was wonderful to see someone else start a thread requesting my continuation. <3

He said his name was Allus. He grew up farming in the Karana Plains, far from my own childhood home of Freeport. We both recognized the similarity. He was raised by his Father only, whereas I came from a house of five. I wondered perhaps...

A Generation of dutiful guardianship had made him weak. Standing sentry outside the very gates of Dragonkind's home, the Lord grew complacent in his power. The foes that had come before to challenge him in the Wastes were utterly destroyed. He was not expecting my own incursion, or that of my sturdy companions.
