View Full Version : Remember the days when people kept saying PC Gaming was dead?

How turned around it is now. The only reason to own a console these days is to play the unique exclusives Sony has or to play the same Nintendo game in a higher resolution.
Crazy.

Having to pay to play online killed consoles for me. PS3 was the last bastion of playing online on a decent console for free, I'll miss that and I'm not paying for it when I've got a perfectly good PC that runs a lot of the same games.
I guess as long as the kids are happy with their xbox live points and Playstation plus - who gives a shit what us oldies think? :)
Steam is the future, I've tasted it.

Does that gif eventually pan to the computer screen? Should put tranny porn on it then cut back to Picard face palming.

There's always something special about playing co-op or competitive console games on the couch next to your friends that PC gaming will never replace.
The new super smash bros has 8 player mode; playing with 8 friends in one room on the same TV against each other is pretty darn fun.

I've hated DDL for the longest time, it still gives me a sour taste whenever I can't buy the physical copy of a game (Legend of Grimrock). That said, the games industry has dug itself into such a deep shit filled chasm that I've found myself an avid supporter of everything Gabe. He's literally our last best hope.

Steam is so 2013
Every time I try to load a game on Steam, it takes 10 minutes.
Installs a patch every single time it seems
"preparing to launch" whatever that means
THEN i get in the game to wait in queue on a full server

Sounds like a problem on your end.

if it werent for mmos, id probably never play pc games. i hate sitting at the computer.

Gaming in general has been pretty shitty for many years now (on console and pc)
Either that or I'm getting old and losing touch
I'm leaning towards games being bad tho

Some of us already have our PC hooked up to our giant flatscreen. How hard would it be to run a console game on a PC with some USB hardware for handling communication with the controllers?

I think we were spoiled and didn't realize it. Rare to find a game in a box now that's 100% complete and finished.
They re-released the shit out of Street Fighter 4 as an example. 5 years and counting, still with 4 more new characters, more skins/DLC... and people in whatever numbers lap it up and pay Capcom off. Same goes for Battlefield 4 and EA.
I've never had a problem with Steam games loading, that can't be the client causing problems.

I'm not a fan of Sony or Microsoft, I bought my GF a PS4 for her birthday so she could play unity.. she loves it. It's looks neat but I have no reason to play on it. Destiny 'kind of' looks neat, but still really don't care.

yeah, that's not how steam is designed to be used. at all. you're supposed to launch it when the computer starts and leaving it running when you're afk so that it can download updates during off time.

that only happens after the game is crashed and it's syncing your saves to the cloud. quit installing so many mods off of loverslab and you'll crash less frequently.

I can't imagine playing Dark Souls on a console.

This is nothing new to fighting games, the digital age only helped accelerate this kind of bullshit. Capcom and other companies that make fighting games do this because they know they can get away with it. Most of their audience that play these games exclusively are more willing to throw down another 60 bucks each year for the next re-release.

That model didn't start with Street Fighter 4. It has been an established part of fighting games for years now. For better or worse. Also there are many balance tweaks and what not between releases that make it more than just costumes and characters.

LAN parties cannot replace this type of play. I totally agree with you that there is something a console delivers that can't be had via PC. Ease of use is only one variable.

There's also something to be said for being able to have a fully immersive multiplayer experience without having to share screen real estate and lose your character. Honestly, I can already emulate 99% of console couch coop games and my computer can output to my television and I have USB controllers, so what does a console have over my pc again?
