First.....what you folks have managed to do here is really awesome. The amount of time and effort gone into this server and its community has really paid off. Thank you.
Second, although its great to have a living breathing world again I'd respectfully ask that you at least consider the exp gain rate.
There were a lot of good things about classic EQ from the days gone by but the rate of exp gain was not one of them. Perhaps i'm in the minority and I certainly don't expect / want you to change because some random guy on the internet thinks you should.
However, I consider the exp gain thing a bit prohibititive for me. Bootstrapping is awesome and something the new games lack but there is a balance to be struck.
It looks like you guys have a mandate to be thorough in your emulation of the original experience that is awesome.
Would you consider keeping all things the same but instance off another copy with a slightly faster exp gain? I'm not talking ez server faster , but I can tell from the exp gains in the newbie yards here I doubt I'll never have time to invest to get to the max level.
Anyway, great job and thanks for doing this.

-1 Keep the original rate. I want the total old school kick in the nuts EQ ~ Velious feel. At 35,40,45, and 50 I want to literally feel a sweaty Aradune behind me whispering... "Do you like that Hell level!? Can you feel that XP losss!?"

And this is where you should have stopped typing, but don't worry, I fixed it for you.

I like the idea of having the EXP rate at what it is now. I think the fact that it takes a lot of time to achieve a level, makes it all the more rewarding!
Nothing like grinding with a group, or doing a quest or two and getting a level an hour later to hear that infamous DING!
I say, no change.

I see bad things in store for this thread. Maybe there needs to be a "Things That Will Never Happen" sub-forum for threads like this to be moved to. Let the nerdraging begin...

I'm pretty sure this has already been brought up and the devs shot it down. It's all about being classic, we take the good with the bad.

Newb yard experience sucks. Make sure you're always killing yellows. Or try a quest that rewards a good amount of XP (gnoll teeth in Halas is a great one).
I play an hour or two per day tops, and I could have been 50 in July if I didn't spend so much time tradeskilling, hunting random named that I didn't see on live, and generally just exploring this awesome server. I think you'll find the XP is just fine once you get used to it, and should certainly not prohibit you from reaching 50.
(p.s. - there doesn't seem to be a lot to do at 50)

the only XP thing i would change is the difference between solo/group XP gain. solo is just so much faster, hence why the server is overloaded with mages and necros.

Hell levels are 24, 29, 34, 39, 44, and 49 in Classic?

It is 30, 35, 40 and 45. I just finished up the 40 grind and can tell you that 41-43 took less time than that level.

There are other wonderful emu servers with 2x and 4x xp gain. The EZ server is a lot of fun! You might want to try that out.

The risk vs reward is what I actually liked about EQ compared to other MMOs.
In WoW - I was level 60 in like 2 weeks. (untwinked, no outside help, new to the game, etc). No sense of accomplishment. Very few friends on the server becuz everything is geared towards soloing your way up. I just didn't feel like I was accomplishing very much.
On EQ - (again without outside help), the first 10 levels fly by pretty quick - but then after that - man I really felt like I EARNED my levels from that point on. ESPECIALLY the hell levels. AND I made so many friends/contacts along the way!
THAT'S what an MMO should be all about. EQ may have fuked up a lot of things, but they sure got the whole "sense of accomplishment" thing down (at least in Classic/Kunark/Velious).

Since we're wasting time in the "things that won't ever happen thread"
How about 2x loot tuesdays? Some servers throw 2x loot, which (as most know) is an EMU thing where each mob drops a second RNG'd drop as well one the corpse (i.e. Frenzied drops 2 moon rings, Sage drops a cowl and cord, etc... 2 shots at whatever a mob's normal loot pool is). On a desolate server it made grinding up your boxes all the more bearable.
Imagine the carnage of a 2x Loot Tuesday on P1999!
Yeah, would never happen, but it's fun to think about. :P

Exp is fine because it actually takes time and group play to accomplish stuff. Maybe a tiny tiny full grping exp
Increase would be as far as I would care to see happen and even still i am skeptical about that.

To the OP, what race and class are you playing??
This has a huge impact on how quickly you level. When my enchanter solos, the xp flies. When he groups, the xp sux.
If you'd like to level more quickly, play a solo class. Or try to get a regular group and focus more on enjoying the game and less on getting levels.

Oh man, I got the greatest idea evar! How about we add a button to our hotbar, that when you click it you gain 10000x the exp per mob, and then you get 100,000pp, added each click, and Beastlords and Bezerkers, Kittehs, froogies, and dragonpeople are unlocked lululul.
/sarcasm
The game's fine how it is, leave it at that. It's reasons like these that EQLive kind of went the way it went. The game was fine up to PoP, not saying the game was perfect pre-Kurnak, but it was better than post PoP, then people started bitching, and WoW came out so SoE started competing.

Probably any other *ideas* for improving the game to suit one style of play over the original EverQuest 1999 experience, should be posted here. (http://www.project1999.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=30)
