I gotta say, by leaps and bounds, I think these are the best 5 series to come around.

In no particular order:

1. Deadwood:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YI-M6fYsCak

2. The Knick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=08V4RHGuGqE

3. Fargo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXfej6ekBZI

4. Game of Thrones:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ixEWrTLiZg

5. True Detective:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXwCoNwBSkQ

Honorable mentions to:
Breaking Bad, Band of Brothers, Sherlock (UK), Twin Peaks.

What are your favourites? Any suggestions for me? I feel like I've seen everything good out there.

1. The Wire
2. The Shield
3. The Sopranos
4. Breaking Bad
5. True Detective

Don't overlook The Shield. Not many people seem to have watched it.. But it was a very satisfying and addicting series. Also agree with Fargo and Band of Brothers.

I tried, so very hard to get in to The Wire. I know it's one of the top rated shows of all time. Maybe it didn't age well, but I struggled to get through 3 episodes, and eventually gave up.

I absolutely loved the other 4.

You won't regret it if you drag yourself kicking and screaming if necessary through Season 1. There is no way you can come out of it without it finally "clicking" for you, the character development just takes a little while. #1 show of all time for a reason, 'cause it's really that good.

Pretty sure the only serious TV series i watch is Law and Order. Prefer the original series over any of the spinoffs. But top 5 TV series for me are(based off i could just put on anytime any episode and watch it):

1. Big Bang Theory
2. Seinfeld
3. Community
4. Arrested Development
5. Freaks and Geeks(was too shortlived)

If we're including Seinfeld in serious TV shows you can put that as 1b on my list. I'm not going to include it, however.

My five:
1. Game of Thrones
2. All in the Family
3. Dexter
4. The Shield (Walton Goggins impresses me consistently.)
5. Six Feet Under
Honorable mention: Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, The West Wing, Law & Order

I understand All in the Family was a sitcom, but it dealt with some very serious topics.

Random thoughts: I haven't seen all of The Sopranos, so I left it off the list. I've seen most of Sons of Anarchy. Almost put The Shield third based solely on Shane. In fact, my favorite parts of SoA were the appearances of nearly every major character from The Shield.

Yaw, by "serious" I meant "dramas."

If we're doing comedy:

1. Wilfred (US)
2. Seinfeld
3. Louie
4. Peep Show
5. Curb Your Enthusiasm

Honorable mentions to:

..Always Sunny, Workaholics, The Ricky Gervais Show, Arrested Development, Blackadder, Fawlty Towers, Community, Eastbound and Down, Extras, Father Ted, Kenny Vs. Spenny, Maron, Stella, The Mighty Boosh, The Inbetweeners, The Tick, The League, Trailer Park Boys,

I dunno. That show lost its way because of the writer's strike. But when it seemed to have a story line going, Heroes was amazing.

I'm still waiting for the fight between Peter and Syler. They showed some weak ass battles between the two, but i wanted to see a nitty-gritty balls deep display of power between those two.

i wish they would rewrite it as an action and not a drama. shit would be awesome

Since there's been some talk of The Shield, the character in American Dad based on Forest Whitaker's character in The Shield always cracks me up.

Looking through the lists I didn't see any mention of Banshee, a series made by HBO for Cinemax. Sometimes predictable, some twists and turns, lots of action. It's probably my favorite show on TV right now.

In it's third season, here is the first season trailer but it doesn't really do it justice:

My wife likes Banshee. I watch it with her because.. Lili Simmons (Rebecca). She was in True Detective as well. Wife knows that's why I watch, is okay with it. The guy playing Hood is visually distracting. Looks like he had untreated dental abscesses on each side of his mouth.

Frankie Faison is rather awesome in the stereotypical funny oldish dude role. As is the Asian guy, don't know his name off the top of my head.

Lol that's funny because I wouldn't have gotten into it if not for my wife, she loves it. Yes Rebecca is smoking hot as a wayward Amish tramp. And yeah Hood has something going on with his mouth, I thought maybe he chewed too much tobacco or something. Hoon Lee plays Job, the badass hacker comic relief transvestite.

Also noticed they drink a lot of Jameson's! Well this past week they drank Glenlivet. Either way Sugar is always pouring a glass for someone.

- Twin Peaks (Still my all time favorite, absolutely love the atmosphere and characters throughout the entire series.)

- Six Feet Under (Just plain good from the first episode untill the last, don't remember there being any 'bad' episodes.)

- Black Books (If I ever were to own a bookshop this is how I'd wish to run it)

- Bored to Death (Alas it was too short-lived)

- Arrested Development

- House of Cards
