What was your favorite GM event from Live back in Classic or trilogy, and why? What made it cool to you?

Halloween events! especially the one in the rathe mts. This big undead dragon pretty much decimated everyone at the zone in non stop. The zone was always night time, with gargoyles running a muck. The commonlands were filled with werewolfs. EK had spectres. It was a blast! and all the upgrades that were floating around. Folks would announce rots in ooc. It was a kewl day to be had!

GM's made a monster in loio and was spamming shout with challenges. ended up with like 300 people wailing on it for about 30 minutes. every minute or do it was kill someone at random.

The Lfay event where Tunare and Cazic Thule went toe to toe...
But some of the Halloween events were amazing. I remember zoning into West Wastes on my wizard and hearing my name shouted by an NPC in the zone. I was the only one in the zone so I started looking around for the NPC. Was a dragon with the sleeper model on it. The dragon had me run around and find a bunch of crap in the zone and then gave me a reward of 30p. I figured the GM must have been uber bored that day LOL.

There was a huge war in Firona Vie once, where NPCs were killing other NPCs and people could loot them, also people could fight on 1 side or the another. I got a pair of gloves, but I wend LD because at the time my computer couldn't handle it.
Letting loose rogue dragons in random zones is pretty cool, I remember they had a dragon in Frontier Mountains once that people had to kill, 35+ and a lot of rewards went to the 30s and 40s who helped kill it, not just the 50+ people.
The werewolves taking over the West Commons / Karanas I believe was another fun event.

1) During pre kunark they had huge skeletons in qeynos hills was my first GM event so i always remember it.
2) During kunark on Tz there was huge wars between lights and darks in ec and nro, the next day the was a war in oasis and GMs made 4 skeleton model mobs and ran around killin everyone from lvl 10 to 60. After about 2 hours of killing everyone the lights and darks got together and killed all 4 gms. The second they die the war resumed.

luclin days, they did an event in paludal caves where the phlarg king and his minions (all controlled by gm's) starting killing everyone at the bandit camp near shadowhaven.
i was playing a level 14 rogue at the time and there was one called a phlarg rogue which did backstab (was a yellow con to me). so i started dualing with him. most of the other players were all after the king so it was basically 1 on 1. well i would have killed him about 4 times but everytime i got close he either did a full heal, or punted me 200 meters away so i couldn't get the death blow. he was terrabad at backstab jousting hehe.
anyways eventually the king was killed and someone showed up and thanked us all for saving shadowhaven, and gave us all cake and beer

I never had a good experience with a GM event. The head GM on Mith Marr at the time was a prick to most people. If his event didn't go exactly as scripted, he took it out on the players in zone. During a Mistmoore event, he killed everyone by using... what's it called... the spell effect that throws you up in the air. Technically, the spell didn't kill you. The fall did... exp death, no rez and no attempt to fix it. Most of the people in the zone, myself included, were just there to watch the event (it was a roleplay script providing lore on part of the game). Had a couple of hecklers which disrupted him so he just whacked everyone.
Had a GM event in Permafrost where some goblins challengers were looking for a "worthy opponent". I must have died 6 or 7 times. I came back to fight them over and over when everyone else was screaming they couldnt be beaten and to ignore them. I mentioned it in my guild to see if we could raise a force to take them out. Another paladin (female high elf) came in, walked up and cowed to them (in emote). She gave them muffins. They gave her a Mithril Two Handed Sword and depopped. She was two levels below me at that time but I watched her level past me by 10 levels within a couple weeks. Then she quit the game.
Another GM event had a GM come in and port every "good" character in the zone to the cat room to leave us there for the duration of the event.
Yeah, the GMs on my server could have used some common sense when it came to running live events.
I had way more fun with the scripted events in Velious than I ever did with a live GM event.

Love how he's standing on some wood elf.
"NAUGHTY!"
Played on euro times on US server, missed nearly everything. I recall sometimes special mobs in zones, but back then I didn't usually bother. =<
Recall the Grobb-reclaiming-war as the only one I actually attended. Trained the frogs and their leaders to the ogres, got some bonus exp potions as loot and some not-my-class -gear that rotted. Then some other douches decided that if they nuked the nameds they get the exp and loot, so it became a KS contest. Aaaand then I guess the GMs made the frogs run at selos speed because they started catching me.

Yes, they spawned Faydedar in LOIO on our server and it grew in size for every person it killed. Needless to say, it was pretty huge by the time a cooperative of guilds took it down. Even more impressive was the corpse pile at the FM zone...

Battle between Tunare and Cazic Thule in LFay. Changed the zone for a few days.
Loved the one month Plague of Bertoxxulous on the Karanas. Special mobs and it changed Paw forever.

I won an event on Veeshan one day where the GMs took control of some hill giants in SK. There were about 75 of us trying to take 'em down. Then the GMs let everyone roll on the loot...they divided us into three groups: casters, healers, and meleers...and I had the highest roll for the meleers (PS - there were a lot of guys doing /ran 98 100 thing, lol)

Lfay GM event where I almost got a GBS-looking uber monk weapon. It was sad day - I was literally about 15 seconds from getting it but got sniped by another monk =(

I think every event besides the BotB were so crowded and laggy I hated them. I stopped going early on.
Last one I ~almost~ did was the newbie gnome race to Qeynos or something.

My favorite was an impromptu event. I started in July of 99. I had a RL buddy with an early 20s ranger. He kept telling me how we "are gonna go to Unrest when you hit 15".
The day finally came. I'd saved up scraps of gold here and there, had nearly full bronze.
We went to Unrest. My first trip. "Oh you'll love it- pallies decimate the undead."
We zone in and play around in the yard a bit; the zone was fairly populated. There were a good 20 players in there.
All of a sudden, two named start shouting. "You've invaded the Estate of Unrest and soandso shall not stand for it!"
Four level 50 ogres in what appeared like full fine steel pour out of the basement and begin raping everything in sight. My friend and I died.
The reason this was my favorite event is because of what followed. Keep in mind MMOs were a brand new thing to most players and social media simply didn't exist in any sophisticated fashion.
The word went out. Survivors and slain began to spread the word. Pretty soon, all of the most uber players and any high level began to flood Butcherblock. I realized what was happening and spread the word as best I could to help: / all 46 50, /t soandso Unrest is under attack! Avenge me and my friends!
It was great. Unrest was flooded with power players and anyone with the balls to zone back in. Those GM ogres fought the wave of players for the better part of 45 minutes before being brought down.
They handed out goodies to the victorious. I hadn't been playing long... I knew EQ was going to really be a special experience... a place... somehow, a real place. I had just witnessed truly dynamic content.
Bah... I wax nostalgic. But I've never ever forgotten that nameless event on the Rathe in the fall of '99. It was so much better than the NPC, scripted GM events that would follow. It was unannounced and spontaneous.
I always wished to see more of that.
Actually, on Live, after a certain time I began to celebrate each ding by going to Unrest and gutting that place. It's still my favorite zone in classic.

Ha! Dude, do you remember the name of any of the GMs on Veeshan? There was an Iksar GM, maybe a Guide, there whose name I've been trying to remember.

The final day of beta in nektulos forest there was a huge event where Marr and Inny came to the bridge where the 4 delf guards normally spawn and had a large scale battle. When it was all said and done we all got to look at the corpses to see what uber loot would be released when the game went live. I think the Fiery Avenger (marr's weapon) was something like 12 / 48 2hs no stats, no effects. Just 12/48. I'll see if I can't find the screenshots of the looted mithanel marr corpse, anyway was just a really good way to close the beta, gave us all something to look forward to

I've seen that link before, but I don't believe that was it. So many years since I've looked at my own SS's, I'll try and find my flash drive that has them on it and see if I can't locate it, I'm pretty sure it was just called "Fiery Avenger" if memory serves me...which it hasn't in years.

The monster for us on Xev was Cazic Thule (or looked like him), I zoned into loio and shouted some trash talk when I got summoned then flinged a ways off and received some massive damage, of course I died :)

Never got to attend an actual GM event. My favorite event had to be on Sullen Zek. Full PvP war over control of Kithicor forest. The GMs actually hopped in just to watch. There had to have been at least 100 people in the zone.
and who could forget Fansy the level 5 bard?
