Have you ever wondered if we are overpopulated or if we are just a normal server in classic time? Heres your answer. (Just random curious info if you ever wondered)

PvP servers had 700+ on them.

I guess considering there's 34000 players on the blue servers then 2100 on PvP servers about right.

well thats one scan, if you keep moving into the time you might see some updates, well and i dont know if people boxed at that time, probably not. Numbers seem pretty close to our reality.

as others pointed out, average was 2,000-3,000 when not in off peak hours

Arguably P99 feels very crowded at the top end because we'd be in PoP(?) by now on a classic timeline.

Not sure about anyone else, but back on live during Kunark/Velious I was dicking around a lot and not thinking "better work on that epic", "better get to 60 asap" etc :p

spent years not lvling to 60 and just screwing around with pvp. server pop on p99 is very comfortable for those who were from pvp servers.

Yeah, I remember around 2000 per server prime time. This server just feels over crowded because everybody is doing the same thing. We're all piled in unrest and mistmoore(because zem) when runnyeye remains empty, the gorge is empty, Dalnir, Droga and Nurga are all empty. Couple of druids kiting in Karana and silk farmers but Karana is basically empty. Permafrost is empty.

Nobody is exploring, nobody is seeing where a quest-line takes them. I guess a few people are maybe as many as 100-150, but 90% of the server is leveling their 3rd, 4th or 15th alt, grinding in solb sebilis or charasis, or smoking the chardok crack-pipe.

During classic I played from Kunark until Ldon and never got above level 47, and I rocked jade maces with a fungus robe hehe. Oh well, at the end of the day I'm pretty happy with our population. Chardok makes me weep a little inside. Why nerf low-hp bard kiting, but not nerf this? Oh well it's too late now, the server 60-pop and economy are already skewed. Irreparable damage. Plus it would be a shame to put all those RMTers out of work.

Yeah this is off peak hours, I remember a 1200ish server being a good low population server to go to.

Because the goal is to be mechanically classic. Deviating even further than that so some people can get feels is not in line with the direction of the server.

/lazy on when were these implemented? i remember roating hot zones at some point in the game coming in. probably not kunark but velious perhaps?

Most people did level in a few specific zones.

During Vanilla SolB and Lower Guk would have 80-120 people in them during primetime. You could walk through the zone and not find a single mob. Groups would camp a single room with 3-6 mobs and hold that camp all night.

During Kunark, Sebilis would commonly see 60-120 people. KC would serve 60-80 people. On P99, KC is overcrowded with 30-36 people.

Pfft I wish P99 was like live.. Maybe we wouldn't be so top heavy or just have more people on alts.. It does get boring soloing sometimes at those "odd" levels =)

Pretty sure Hot Zones (or Hot Spots as they were originally called) started in the April 28, 2004 patch.

Nothing wrong with hot-zones, but I think that is something different. Zone Experience Modifier. As far as I remember you got more exp in dungeons.. but we didnt have all the mechanics worked out and spread info onto sheets for everyone to read. Since we do more of us are drawn to the same zones and farm the same camps.

Also I'm not saying I have anything against zem or hot-zones or anything. What I am saying is we all know unrest has a 150% zem.. why would we waste time anywhere else? My whole point is that these are the reasons the server feels crowded when there is only about 60% population of what a standard server had on classic.

Offically listed Hot zones were later, but there were zones that people knew had higher XP mods prior to that I believe Hole was a well known one fairly early on.

This is pretty close to accurate. People need to remember that having 2500 people on, even spread out over two expansions, had a lot of crowding. It's why Verant kept opening more and more servers and moving people for free. Zones would crash, people would flip out and petition GMs over spawns being stolen, griefing galore.

Absolutely true - but I think why KC with 35 is overcrowded for us is a function of gear level and overall knowledge. People have KC layout and ph's memorized. They know how to pull (for the most part). There's little to no risk of dying and a difficult CR.

I remember that! :)

That's why it took so long to get to 60. It wasn't about the grind, it was about finding the mobs to kill.

I recall when SoE removed the population count from the server select screens and changed to a descriptive label. The rumor at the time was that this was done because the population count was in decline due to WoW's popularity. Many sites would graph the population over time which showed WOW shooting up as EQ decreased. This was affecting public perception as people predicted the eventual demise of EQ.
