Having been a old EQ vet that started playing EQ in February of 2000, raided into PoP figured I would share a few things. The Good. The server seems really nice, accurate and brings back a lot of old memories. There seems to be a lot of helpful, generous people around. The Bad. Crashing just about every time you zone, a zone with 3 people in it being wiped out by twinks. About level 5 it feels like you start running into a brick wall, a large part of it caused by twinks running under geared players out of the zone because they leave you nothing to kill. In retail it really wasn't that much of a problem on my server but its just crazy here.

Zone crashing is fixable. I was crashing a lot when I first started too. Check out the tech forum and look through posts. If you still have questions post about it, people are very helpful.

As for the twinks emptying a zone, that seems fairly rare to me, maybe you just got unlucky. I rarely have seen that happen in cb or bb, which are two great newb dungeons.

I hope you can fix that. I also was able to join a CB group fairly easy when i went and had a good time. I have seen people get plvl which can be annoying to monster density, say in EC. What level and class are you? Once you develop your friends list you should find somewhat like leveled character to play with. Best luck. BTW My guys are Garthin level 19 Enchanter and Congorats level 5 Warrior.

I kind of agree with the twinks running around, but whatever.... yuhknow? Most folks (99%) are real cool. Sometimes it can be frustrating to go to Highkeep, Mistmoore or Unrest and not be able to get in a group. I cant blame that on twinks though, just the same damn wierdos that have been in the zone for the past week at the same camp

I love EQ, but I cant play it like some of these trogs do - 16 hours a day 7 days a week.

Look up Lazaru, 26 Necro, if you ever want to group.

As you level, you will find there are zones that the "norm" on p99 is that they are regular exp group type zones. Other zones are ignored. Other zones have bards (aka They Who Must Be Nerfed) running around doing some kind of nonsense. Other zones are crawling with Masters of the Farm, camping loots. Other zones are full of drag queens, twinks, punk rockers, has-beens, and two time losers looking for a break in this crazy life.

There are a lot of zones. You'll find yer niche.

Any time a big guild gets raid suspended you will find higher number of twinks running around. People in end game guilds don't just stop playing when they can't raid, this might have something to do with your struggles this last week.:D

Most high-level people in newbie zones you talk to on the server will concede claim to most camps in a lower-level dungeon to other, lower-level players who are the level to successfully hold down the camps. It does require some communication though! Communicate! I repeat this because so many problems start because of lack of communication. If there is a high-level player running around Crushbone or Blackburrow or somewhere else capping mobs willy-nilly, just send them a /tell saying that you are taking a particular camp. A "camp" is any spawn group of mobs that your group can take down in a reasonable amount of time considering Hit-Point and Mana regeneration, and someone (tank or damage per second character) in your group can rush right to the first mob spawn point in the cycle, preferably standing on the spawn point.

Most camps have a pre-defined limit of mobs which the group is able to handle, as researched by people who have been in the game for a long time. Likely, anyone in your pick-up-group (PUG) will know the basics of the camp parameters. If you are unsure of where to sit or what to attack, ask the group. If you are designated as the puller in any location you are not familiar with, be sure to ask someone how to pull the area. The experienced peeps will tell you how to pull the camp, or else you can call them on the responsibility for your group's wipe!

On P99, groups like to tackle camps in hyper-speed compared to what people used to think about Everquest camping during the 1999-2001 period. The method has been refined and reduced, and it pays to learn the new camping ways. Learn them and live them and prosper!

Welcome to the server Dets! And sorry to hear you are having a rough time. The crashing thing is definitely not normal. I would triple check to ensure you have properly installed and patched (via p99 website files not live auto-patch) the correct client version (titanium). Check in with the tech forum too. I am sure they can offer more advice ^^

As for twinking/overcrowding I am not sure I follow you. There are a lot of twinks, but the only time I have had a hard time finding things to kill is in EC or CB at prime time around your level and that is because there are just so many peeps! ^^ you might try forming your own groups too, or check out NRo. Lots of the right level mobs to kill there and relatively wide open by comparison ^^
