View Full Version : Best class for money

So I'm just curious what the best route for being able to farm decent money as you level is class wise. I'm going to go ahead and assume it's Mage/necro. I've just always been a melee class person and I'd like to just level up my rogue. Would a rogue find it significantly more difficult to farm up some plat in comparison? I'm sure I already know the answer to this sense rogues are so group dependent. Just trying to see of anyone has tips. Thanks for any input!

Shaman if you don't mind trading the health of your finger joints and part of your sanity to make all that money. The amount of clicking required for potions is stupid.

So it'll be pretty rough accumulating plat on a rogue huh?

Rogue is probably the worst for money.

I can see the logic and rationale behind that table, and it's mostly correct, but it's still just one person's opinion. I think some of the ratings are debatable, but a very solid resource for newbies regardless.

Lol man that's brutal for a rogue. Maybe I'll just stick it out and play a chanter/shaman hah

Rogue is pretty damn good for plat, you just need to be social. Great loot hides behind locked doors and rogue epics will be profitable as long as mqs exist.

Maybe soloing loot camps would be difficult/impossible for a rogue, but getting a $$ camp group in seb wouldn't be hard and you'd be able to roll on big items.

Rogue epic MQ is great for cash. It's super easy and not time consuming.

IMO druid deserves honorable mention. No, not as good at big named mobs as enchanter or shaman, but those mobs tend to be perma-camped anyways. Port + track and in some zones charm is just OP for money at a much earlier level. Just make a list as you level of places to check, then when you're not busy or you're in the area for a port anyways, check your track. You can harmony your way to named mobs in outdoor dungeons and other silly things. Did you know that you're not KOS to any of the mobs in Unrest when in wolf form?
That's on top of easy and big money porting/plvling.

FALSE - Sham and enc big pp mobs are super undercamped, especially if u know wtf ur talking about
Magician because 100% weight reduction bags + generally awesome nature of the class. Great soloers, even better in a duo or trio with just about anyone.

Is it still really that easy, if you have to do the sub quests for quill/dagger?

If you do it, be a pal and help out those questing their own epics before you cash in - people hurdling rogues (or other classes) doing their own epics is one of the shittest things that goes on here.
MQ'ers always doing the parchments and Eldreth which can slow things down - you might be lucky with Yendar/Renux though as its harder to get his timer.

Powerlevelling for cash isn't too bad, but it does require finding a client.
Also, to those saying rogues are a bad class for cash.. They're very desired in the big groups. I disagree.

Note: the following focuses on "making money" by the traditional methods: either farming plat directly, or camping items to sell for plat. I'm leaving out things like selling PLs, Epic MQs or Chardok AOE proxies because that's a whole other can of worms.
Mage is probably the best of the "money making classes" for straight up ease. Just summon some WR bags and kill a bunch of guards. Basically zero risk and few people contesting for the same mobs. The plat return from this method is relatively slow but very steady compared to other options. Can also kill seafuries or hill giants (with greater competition from other players) and do some dungeon camps (with more risk).
Necro is like a hybrid Mage/Enchanter for making plat. Can easily grind guards/seafuries/hill giants but also can get deep into dungeons and have an easier time than the Mage.
Enchanter can grind plat with an animation or a charmed pet but it's more of a pain in the ass over a long session due to the limitations of each compared to a summoned Mage or Necro pet. Much better at camping dungeon drops to sell, but doing so takes skill and attention.
Shaman can root rot guards/seafuries/hill giants like a champ with Epic and also do some impressive dungeon soloing as well. Overall probably the best mix of power, ease and versatility when it comes to options for making money.
Druids have a decent money making niche with ports and tracking, allowing them to cruise around and check for rare outdoor spawns (i.e. Bilge in Dagnors, named cycle in FM, random stuff in Rathe Mountains, etc...). They can also quad hill giants and seafuries.
Wizards usually aren't considered a money making class, but they can also make a lot of plat by quadding hill giants and seafuries, although that's basically their only method of doing so. Wizards, along with Druids, have the luxury of being able to bind in OOT and port out as needed, allowing them to easily check to see when SF island has few enough people farming to allow them to quad (which happens more often than you'd think, especially off-peak). This is probably the easiest and most efficient way to make plat in terms of attention and time required. You can do between 4-5 quads per hour (assuming no Clarity) with each one taking 2-3 minutes of playtime, so really of that hour you're only actively playing for around 10-12 minutes and AFK the rest of the time. But you're killing 16-20 seafuries in that time, which should earn you around 1k, give or take. I made a ton of plat this way on my Wiz and was able to do other stuff while medding between quads.

This; as well as Magician.
Shaman and Enchanter are the top 2.

Shaman are really good if you don't value your wrists and fingers. Also you should prolly buy a bed pan, as you are constantly busy doing something, no time for bios!

In 3 minutes your STR buff is coming, I have already planned the next 25 actions!
P.S. Don't even get me started on dispells, what are you talking about I don't have to mem Talisman for another 72 minutes.

Big groups = small money
The reason rogues suck for farming is that a rogue needs a tank who then needs a healer. So you can't duo anything unless you are with a boss shaman, and anything that Shaman/Rogue can do Shaman/Monk can do better with the exception of opening the door to Emperor Chottal.

It's really going to come down more to how you play. There are some obviously better classes for making cash like Enc, Sham, and Necro. However, if you want to make cash you can generally find some good camps or create groups on other classes.
I play a wiz, paly, and rogue, all terrible at making money on the chart, and kind of rightfully earned. My rogue is only in the 40s but I know high level rogues are certainly welcome dps at lots of groups. On my wiz and paly when I need to make cash I hit camps or form groups.
