Hello all, I just made a high elf agnostic ench and am lvl 13 atm. I was wondering a few things about illusions.

I know that say if I put on a DE illusion I should be able to walk into Neriak and buy/sell and turn in quest stuff, if I felt so inclined.

My questions is, lets say I ruin my faction in FP by killing guards or something. Can I then throw on human illusion and be ok?

Not exactly sure how the illusion and faction stuff works.

Thanks for any advice!

Avoid faction hits with cities when possible.

Sometimes illusion is enough to counter a lot of faction hits. Sometimes it isn't though. And it just barely gets you to where you are safe.

In Velious for example, Enchanters can get to Threatening with the Werewolf illusion. Using Collaboration, it can get you to Dubious with all the mobs in zone. But if you get a single faction hit that no longer works. Fortunately you only get faction hits from Velk or Lord Bob.

The way I understand it, illusions only affect the base faction modifiers you would get from being that race. So, human illusion will shift that, but if your overall faction is low enough, it won't matter. Think about it as if you were a human to start with and you killed enough guards to become kos.

There are many components that go into what you get from /considering an NPC. Your race, religion, class (sometimes), and faction hits (positive or negative) are all separate considerations that add up to a number that determines how that NPC sees you.

Illusion will only modify the race component, while all the others stay in tact. Since you are agnostic (best choice for an enchanter btw), when you use the DE Illusion you should be able to walk into almost if not all of Neriak and be fine, as long as you haven't done any quests or killed any mobs that would give you negative faction hits with the dark elves. Since you are a high elf, if you value the ability to walk into Neriak unmolested I would be careful with faction hits from Crushbone orcs.

There might be a very small window of faction level where an illusion will save you if you have been killing guards. This might only happen in a city where you are disliked by nature and have only killed enough guards to make them threatening to you without an illusion. I would never rely on this though because the window would indeed be very slight and hard to calculate. As an enchanter I would advise you to not trash factions if it can be avoided. You'll need them for future quests.

The rest of the posts are right. As an enchanter who has not ruined any city faction, I can (and do) go in any city in Norrath, including Neriak, Cabilis, and Paineel. I'm Human agnostic.

NOTE: there is one exception. Crusader Quarg in Field of Bone will still be scowling, even through your iksar illusion (when you get it). He often is right outside the zone line to Cabilis.

Personally, I wouldn't destroy your Freeport guard faction. Otherwise you'll be relying on invis to get to the casters guild, unless you want to go somewhere else. FP is so convenient though.
