First off, just to be clear, there's plenty of hip-hop songs I enjoy. But I stumbled across this video, and it's just been proven to me that the genre is 99% post-production.

If you've seen the "They rapin' ev'rbody out here!" guy, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

hip hop and rap are the only genres i subscribe to for lyrics and bass. With any other genre I appreciate only the talent of the musicians herego why I exclusively listen to post rock.

The Roots are all excellent musicians

Agreed, they fall into that other 1%.

Lol its a fail argument. Let me prove to you that punk rock sucks:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ht5RZpzPqw

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAbcgmwq3EU

But its not punk rock you say? Well there lies the fallacy

Alot of people who criticize hiphop have no knowledge of the genre and alot of the times its based on stupid shit like "its not music" and you can generally dismiss these kind of critics as racists who will find anything to rag on what black people do. (Im not saying thats what the op is though, just saying his argument is invalid cuz that music isnt hiphop)

Here are some actual hiphop artists:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZErZm8lMMm8

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nruVyJmtcqo

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjCHXJA9D9E

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBlMrGgpwXE

Again, to re-iterate, you cant cite commercial horse shit and call it hiphop

And i know the bands i linked are old, im just outta touch with hiphop having drifted to other genres over the years, but i heard a DJ play some recent stuff and it was 2 hours of solid hiphop, its just underground, once again.

I should make myself clear as well, since taxi brings up a good point. When I say "Hip-Hop" I specifically mean the top40 stuff you hear on the "Hip-Hop" stations. I like plenty of artists in the genre, but most of them get little or no air-play. But the ones that do sound exactly like the link I posted. As a matter of fact, if I had heard that on the radio and not online, I wouldn't have known the difference. That's all I was saying.

There's very little rap/hip-hop I listen to, for those very reasons. I do however have an affinity for early 90's west coast hip-hop/rap. I dunno, the sound and style I dig, not sure why. Most music in general past 1995 I can't listen to though. Just my preference.

Yep, its better than gang shootings in casinos and pissing on underage girls while making music about how much money one has.
Or we can just go on pretending that a shit ton of musicians are not in fact mentally disturbed in some way, and the harder generas (Metal, hardcore, punk, death, some classic rock nut jobs etc etc) seem to have a much higher concentration than the rest.

True but those kind of things can be forgiven when say, you are someone like Richard Pryor with a good contribution to culture and setting yourself on fire after a marathon of freebasing. That music you linked... i dont know man, im not sure i can call that a contribution. At least if youre gonna claim that ALL rap music is shit, link some band that is not trivial.

Again, true hiphop isnt about glorifying how many cars you have, how many bitches you fucked, how many people you shot. If you had an actual interest in hiphop youd know that.

And if you knew anything about Hardcore you would know it was about a mindset and songs about real life, outside looking inside to use the cliche, on the streets and in a position from which redemption though not impossible was a fucking uphill fist fight. The anger became strength and the unity and brotherhood held people together when the rest of the world would as soon lock you up or stomp on your face.

You would had to of lived on the streets for awhile, been in a gutter and at the end of your rope to remotely understand the mindset it comes from. For most people the very though is completely alien to them, not on an intellectual level but on a real concrete level.

And those are experiences that made me, and which despite the suffering I would never give up. To the rest of the world, I bid thee a fair fuck you.

I didnt live in the streets, but i can tell ya that at 14 my appartment was so dodgy that my mom had to open the oven to heat the kitchen/living room so we wouldnt freeze our asses off. And it gets to -30c up here in winter.

To me the band you linked sounded just like any other random white power band, boring and unimaginative. We have a band just like this one here, but theyre redskins so "on my side" but the music still sucks, they have laughable lyrics like "When i see your ass from hell, i get a hard-on that is like steel" but it rhymes in french, which makes it sound even stupider.

We had those kind of people at a squat and they were always fucking shit up for the rest of us, trying to act like hardasses vs the police, like theyre so tough. They placed an old car carcass in front of a fenced gate, like that was gonna stop anything with a 1m fence everywhere else but the gate lol. Theyre just bullies who like to fight for fightings sake. In other words, a bunch of dumb assholes.

On another note, i almost went to see atari teenage riot in Montreal tonite, but when i saw the price, i was like lulz, anti-capitalist band with a 27$ ticket price.

Shadow, mind the others, they have been force fed what is "cool" in the media. All rap and hip hop is being told to our culture that it is the thing to do to get noticed. I am a HUGE Blood for Blood fan and have been since their first demo. Ive got tons of old hardcore stuff and that Discipline actually wasnt as bad as I thought it was going to be when it started. Throwdown some Hatebreed, Fury of Five and Biohazard my friends.

Agreed, that's what I hate about most modern music, shit feels way too touched-up after the fact.
