View Full Version : Was pets being charmed classic?

Just wondering, I know a few months back there was a path that made pets able to become charmed. I'm not exactly sure if this was classic, I know for a fact that you can not charm a pet on Everquest live. What are the reasons for this fix. I dont see why this change took place. I play a epic magician and my pet can get charmed with a 50 mana bard song. I assume that this fix was put into effect for some PVE reason and that is why I posted here. Really trying to raise some awareness for this unnecessary nerf that makes a drastic difference for a magician. I played a magician on classic Rallos Zek server, granted I was 14 at the time, I can honestly say my pet was never charmed once. This might have been because people just didn't do it back then or because it wasn't able to be charmed. Would just like a little insight from some of you players who played classic if they remember it.
Thanks :)

In pvp charm poofs pets unfortunately, and it did on live too. That's why I gave up a mage on VZ back in the day and switched to wiz. Plus no pets on zoning (so much pvp happens at zone lines), so easy to nullify pet and then you have no way to protect yourself (shadowstep, rune, heal, root, mez, etc. etc.)
I hear mages do a bit better here on Red due to pet roots/dd actually hit here (they didn't hit anyone over 50 MR on live).

charm is one of the spells that doesn't really work at all as it did on live...

if anything charm lands/holds too easily here
this mechanic is classic
your epic pet not being more resistant / not having runspeed 2 AA innate speed is not

NPCs who charm pets make the pets become NPCs themselves who you can kill and loot items off.
I'm not clear on the mechanics of a PC enchanter charming, but NPC Enchanters could charm your pet then you could kill it and loot any hear you gave your pet, which was neat!

so you could transfer a shaman pet to a druid if there was a chanter npc in zone?

If you want to see something really cool - go charm the Froglok Noble in LGuk as an Enchanter and then attack another frog.
It will charm that frog and will totally become unresponsive. So you have Enchanter in semi-control of 3 pets (2 frogs and Noble's animation).

If a mob with a pet was 1 shot, the pet woulda auto poof on live for our timeline
don't think that's happening here yet

Charming the noble will poof his pet.
You are right though in that he will charm something else. I did it using the evil eyes in gorge of king Xorbb. Was really hoping the pets pet would charm another eye for some sort of ocular centipede

Not exactly sure why they put in the change, you can root pets mez pets and even fear pets is it really needed to be able to charm pets? I know that watching a mob in plane of sky charm my epic pet turned it into a npc that other people could charm. Maybe this was the intended change?
I never had my pet get charmed. Evil eyes just preferred to charm me. As did the Necro that wandered in Qeynos hills. Both were in the first year of release.

I got both, one after the other recently in the Gorge of King Xorbb. It didn't help them in the end but it was disconcerting.
